Minnesota: What Did We Learn?

The worst part about this game is seeing the stagnation in program development.

But this was just humiliating incompetence. Minnesota goes on a 99 yard, 9 minute scoring drive. And our OC calls 3 straight passes - in front of a line that was getting embarrassed - and hung the defense out to dry and they never recovered.

This was a small issue that was a microcosm of larger mismanagement. Buckle up, this schedule gets a lot more difficult going forward.

Offense:
-it’s not good. There is occasional brilliance that makes many want to ignore how terrible the offense is
-Dylan is soooooo slow, and also lacks quickness. But it’s not totally on him. I’m not confident in the play calling or the Oline play.
-Emmitt Johnson is a warrior
-if I’m a stud receiver I’m hitting the portal

Defense:
-The tackling isn’t Riley era bad, but it’s bad
-they need 37 on suicide watch tonight. He was assaulted and humiliated
-they did enough to win. Not pretty but they had no help.

Special teams
-solid effort from arch
-I don’t fault Barney for trying
-the only aspect of the prgram that has made a significant step change in 3 years.

Coaching
-Rhule is out of his league
-we are not tough. It’s obvious. We have been pushed around for years and no one can fix it.
- I’m 1000% against given Rhule more NIL or salary until he can put a consistently good product on the the field.
-there needs to be some serious talk about moving on from anyone named Raiola. Coach, QB, sister doing whatever….maybe it’s time for a break up?

I like how some blame the uniforms. The way this team came to play tonight, not even spiked uniforms would have helped. Missed tackles, lining up in neutral zone, stupid unnecessary fouls, bad coaching, bad o-line, bad defense, atrocious red zone offense, uninspired performance to name a few reasons for losing to bubble blowing row the boat douch PJ Fleck. He has Nebraska’s number. We will lose in a similar fashion to Iowa. We have still to find a coach with a killer instinct. Rhule says the right things but talk is cheap. He cannot back it up with action on the field. Nothing is going to change. Another failed experiment. If a good coach becomes available, Nebraska needs to end this experiment. In fact, I would take James Franklin over Rhule in a heartbeat.

I learned an OL can get penalized and for targeting doing something I feel like I see rather frequently.

Perhaps there was another hit they didn't show after the one where it looked like the defender was getting up and he "blocked" him again.

5. EJ and special teams are the only bright spots.

You think 4.5 ypc rushing is a bright spot? Unless you mean that play where EJ was blocking for Dylan and got completely trucked by the defender? I'm sure he was seeing stars after that, so maybe that was a 'bright' spot... 🤷‍♂️

He had one good game last week, but otherwise he's been thoroughly mediocre.

I’m thankful. This is allowing me to let go of the big $ grab of semi pro football. Mid majors and fcs, maybe d2 is where college football lives now. Hope the semi pro money grab league burns to the ground.

Goodbye GIF

Hate it but I felt we got really out coached. Especially Holgo.

Defense was on the field a long time so won't be too critical but the lack of adjustments on offense was really bad imo. We are who we are... need to make adjustments to get the ball out faster to avoid the massive amount of pressure DR is facing.

I learned that When the coaches say we only have the next game, they mean it because we didn’t do anything to fix what’s been hurting us nor calling plays that seemed to have worked for us. As though the previous games didn’t exist

Might've been helpful if Rhule would've come right out and squashed these damn PSU rumors! Instead he decided to try and leverage that talk, which I understand why, but has now lost all that now with this loss! We looked like hot garbage!
It was really bad, an embarrassing joke that is one of the worst losses in the Matt Rhule era.

This feels like the wheels came off the wagon. The season is going to hinge on playing Northwestern at home - a statement that should resonate with fans and reveals massive cracks in the foundation of this football program.

Also Javin Wright was the only one on defense that knows how to tackle for the most part. He almost stripped the ball on that near TD run. And he had that tackle for loss. Whereas so many others were feeling the love because instead of tackling they went for hugs around the shoulders.

I just hope we can move on from Rhule to PSU, that is never going to happen at all, now get their asses in the room and fix this BS. No more excuses now, no more media BS, fix it or get gone.

I don’t see much more upside to this team- I think they’ve peaked and were probably more lucky than good.

But I also think we’ve got two wins left, so I’m going to keep watching.
