USC: What Did We Learn

most everyone was predicting a husker loss...but many doom and gloomers are still pissed that the huskers lost
Ah yes, Commando bringing the greater that thou ideology to every post. Nebraska’s best win isn’t in the Big 10 and Matt Rhule is a fraud with a tougher schedule next year… but let’s hear your deep insight rather than stating the obvious that we were 6.5 point dogs

People keep quoting stats. To me, stats are useless if they do not lead to wins. The only thing people will remember is that we lost the game and not the stats. The fans deserve better. I would take horrible stats if we are 8-1 over good stats and sitting 6-3. IMHO, we lost the Minnesota game and today’s game because the coaching staff was distracted by the Penn state crap. If Penn state beats us in three weeks, they would have beaten us three times this season.

I really don't think you do. We held the number 1 passing offense who averages 326 yards a game to 135 yards through the air, a 39% completion percent, 1 interception, and 3 sacks. How is that not elite????
Did you see how many dropped passes they had? They looked anything but sharp. Probably, in part, because they are awful in true away games...and they still beat us when we're "blacked out" at night.

And, if we are so lock down on the back end, where is the yield on run defense? If we're so talented back there, like a 2010 Husker team, why can't we scheme to then load up to stop the run?

Where we are: We are improving each season, but not overwhelmingly. I can also say that the Big 10 as a whole is not as good top to bottom as it was 3-4 years ago. If we are going to ever get to being back on same level as some of these teams, we need to get there soon. These other teams will get better, and will inject more money into their programs. That window is once again closing.
Where do we go from here: Just simply have to identify talent and spend the money for it. Build the lines first. Watch SEC football. It is played differently in the trenches. The only two programs in the Big 10 that reflect the SEC is Ohio St and Michigan. They have won recent titles as well. The bar has been set, we have to follow it or just be content with 8-9 wins seasons and making bowl games. Max. 6-8 wins is realistic.

It led to a game winning drive. We lost the game because we couldn’t stop the run.

Hang on. I agree that our inability to stop the run lead to us giving up the lead in the 4th. I guess you'd have to be a f****** dips*** to not agree with that.

But the yardage in the first half was relatively inconsequential because we did clamp down on one of those drives. And those went into the overall stat.

Our defense should have played way better to get the W in the 4th. Every single person who watched the game will agree with that.

Maiava was 9/23. Emmett had 165 yards rushing. Our true sophomore phenom QB got hurt at the top of the 3rd quarter.

I don't think we have any faith in TJ. I like the kid, but i really don't think they gave him a chance. The kid has speed, hasn't seen the field in 5 games and we just kind of did nothing with him. Once DR went down, it was very timid play and that is unacceptable. With this probably being the worst oline we have had, they should have planned for this but apparently they didn't even assume this might happen and we saw that tonight.

If you can’t run your full playbook with the backup QB, you fail as a coach.

Do your joints hurt from that level of mental gymnastics used to write that post?

You have one kid who's built like a tank and is a pocket passer. Then you have another one who is built completely different and is run-first.

How dumb would you be to have the playbook be the same for both guys?

How dumb would you be not to have it that way. Why would you go through practice with two separate play books because 2 QBs aren’t exactly the same? Raiola is far from a tank and is more like a marshmallow.
