Husker QB - TJ Lateef

Smh... I would hope you realize some of the touch throws you are referring to are intentional to get over a linebacker to drop them into the empty space in the zone defense. You don't see a lot of college QBs throw those because not many are capable of even making them. DR has a very strong arm and can deliver the ball on a line when necessary.
I realize it's necessary some of the time but watching him it seems to be most of what he throws are the floating touch passes.

I don't think we'll probably keep him around. Too much to have tied up in a backup QB. Especially with another Raiola on the hook for next year and Taylor the year after. I'm not particularly sold on the other Raiola but, in theory, Taylor would be here and ready to go when Dylan (presumably) leaves.
Rhule alluded to this situation (RB room) when asked about Charmar Brown and Dante Dowdell. Said price was too high for Charmar and that they’d reached a deal with EJ and couldn’t pay Dowdell more than what the negotiated for EJ as the #1 RB. Similar with DR and TJ. If he finishes out the year and does well, to keep him we’d probably have to offer him more than DR is getting. So pay the #2 QB more than starter or give DR more money so he’s still the highest paid one.

If TJ lights it up, would DR look to move elsewhere? Again, just 1 game that he did very well in. Exciting to see we might have a legit QB battle or that other teams might try and poach a guy.

If he goes 3-0... and then wins a bowl game, it will make for an interesting spring and 2026 because I predict we will pony up the cash to keep him. Anything less than that and I am guessing he transfers for a decent pay day. Either way, good for him!
If he were to play very well and help the team win out including bowl game, he would deserve to be in the discussion for starting QB 2026. Coaches should then have the discussion with both kids and say best man wins but we would like to keep both and let it shake out. I’m sure one would leave, but TJ would deserve a starting chance if he leads the team to a 4-0 record while being one of the main reasons it happened.

The "I like TJ more than Dylan" posts are getting very strong.

I personally always like a QB that can run.

But I have noticed that Husker fans that like a running QB only like that running QB when he also doesn't throw any picks and completes 70% of his passes.
I like a QB that can run, until he gets hurt running which will happen over a full season more times than not unless you can limit shots he takes. The issue with a non mobile QB is you have to protect him enough. Having a line that can run block well, and maybe pass block for quick shots is way more obtainable in college football than having a line that can pass block for 4-5 seconds in addition to being able to run block. You need the cream of the crop in order to do that, and we simply aren't at that level on the line.

That said, we haven't had a mobile QB who can throw well consistently for a long time, maybe ever. Tommy and Taylor were solid in stretches, but lacked superior consistency in throwing. A QB that can do that would be the ticket.

Nope, same games. I'm just not a fan of DR's style of play. I think TJ will be better as a Husker QB1 once he has more game experience under his belt.
But the film completely contradicts what you said. No problem here in your preference but saying DR only throws lob passes is FAR from reality.

DR is a far more polished passer at this point in their careers but I'll admit, I like a mobile QB as well so I am intrigued by TJ. Will be fun to watch how he does against real defenses with film.

Agree to disagree.

Would be shocking if he didn't transfer. He could start at a bunch of places next year and not have to wait an extra year riding the bench.
I agree unless we can match pay. If we can, he can use his redshirt year next year barring any DR injuries and be in a great position going into the 2027 season. However, something has to give since we would then have Dayton and Trae in the mix in 2027. I have to think Trae has a leg up on Dayton, even though he is a year younger, due to his amazing peer recruiting. Will be fun to see how it shakes out.
