I've driven two EVs and the torque is amazing. I actually don't even think that's possible with IC engines. There just isn't the delay that an IC has. Once you step on the EV pedal.....it GOES.

As for gas vs diesel. I have to say diesel wins hands down in efficiency and power when under load and pulling/hauling heavy stuff. I've had a number of both for the purpose of hauling heavy stuff and if I need a pickup to do that again, I'll buy diesel. Now, just driving around without a load, there probably isn't much difference. I would say the last diesel I had got maybe 2-3 mpg better without a load. With a load? MPG difference was very very noticable.
Again, that's not being used as a passenger vehicle but for hauling heavy loads. I have no problems with using diesel for commercial and industrial applications. But it just isn't needed for the vast majority of people. And for the cases where you're hauling a boat or camper, you can use a gas truck especially since it's rare anyone is doing it more than a dozen times a year. Yes, the efficiency won't be quite as good, but it's worth that trade-off to get the other diesels off the roads IMO.
 
Diesel fuel itself is inherently more efficient than gasoline, it has more energy density. Diesel can also achieve higher compression ratios which leads to better thermodynamic efficiency. By design diesel engines also achieve higher torque lower down in the RPM range, which is why they are so great at hauling heavy loads.
All true, however gas can be started and stopped more easily/efficiently than diesel, which makes hybrid power systems using gas practical, which overcomes diesel's advantages in efficiency.

Yes, EVs are the most efficient power plant but they also have weight, range, and charging penalties we're all aware of.

I am fully onboard that EVs are the future for the general public, and in 15 or 20 years battery tech and charging should be very very good. We're still in a transition phase though, and people like Decked are reluctant to change despite it being in their best interests, which is why we haven't made significant leaps but small gains in market share of EVs.
I get that. But people aren't going to change at all unless they are at the very least exposed to the facts in addition to other people's experiences and opinions that are different than their own.

Yep. 100 years ago everyone had a horse and gas stations were rare. Internal combustion engines were faulty & prone to breaking down, and qualified mechanics were few and far between.
 
Last several have been Ford F-150. They have had the better rebates and deals at trade in time. Last two were $15k off the sticker price because I bought last years model still new on the lot. If you plan to trade every 2-3 years, it doesn't really matter. If you plan to keep it forever, shop for exactly what you want. For what it's worth, if you go ford, I would go with the 2.7L ecoboost unless you are pulling something heavy. Much better gas mileage than the 3.5L and still plenty of power. Chevy has more comfortable seats, and dodge has a few most bells and whistles but more common recalls. Everyone I know that has gone with the Tundra's has loved them.

BUT I think I got my search narrowed down to a Ford f-150.

(I am also trying to get one that will NOT pass an emissions test, because I hate the environment)

Don't understand what is making you delay the decision?

I had all 3 major brands and liked each one.

What you could do is check Rental companies for discounts and promotions, join AAA, search for coupons and download apps for rental companies. Then rent a truck for the weekend. Try driving at least 2 before you buy. You might surprise yourself and like one better than your first choice. Because they are similar but different.

I know it's pricey, but cheaper than going all in blindsided.

If I were to get a different truck than what I have now, I would either downsize to a 6 banger, but honestly, I would prefer to have a dually truck - heavy duty - cadillac. But not new either. I would sell mine and buy an older dually with leather seats from an owner out in the Texas country. It wouldn't be me everyday driver. Just when I want to haul stuff, have some copenhagen, and dinner out for mexican food and steaks or ribs.

Oh, well the delay is that my Mother raised me with incredible crippling guilt about purchasing anything...I have buyers remorse that hits so hard I can hardly take a breath.

Other than that...I am ready to purchase! With that said, I already had my lender run 5 different loan approvals for me and I just backed off one f150 because the dealer woudl not come down 500 more dollars.

Moral of the story, I will not be getting a truck.

If you get a 3.5L your wallet will personally punch you in the face. I am warning you do not get one of them. 2.7L or 5.0. 5.0 is probably what I would get if I had the money for them both and they were both low miles. But both of them are reliable.
