Your 2025 Nebraska Cornhuskers

Butler is exactly who we thought he was.
I'm not sold either way on him. The DL and LB play have been very poor this year. I think the concepts and play calls have been pretty ok, getting guys into the right spots, they just don't execute. Seems like someone is always in the backfield or there to make a tackle, but they blow it, or a LB doesn't sink in coverage and they throw it over their head before we can get a sack.

This is crazy. We essentially run a 3-2-6, against teams that want to line up and pound the ball. We have no shot in stopping teams that dedicate themselves to running the ball with this scheme.

Not sure what's crazy. Watch the games, watch what really happenes when plays break down. The DL is undersized and can get pushed around some but LBs have taken poor angles all season getting washed out of the play, and they are horrible in pursuit and zone coverage.

I think we are agreeing? Why are they running a 3-2 with an undersized DL in the Big Ten? It’s like Butler still thinks Robinson and Nash are up front to take out blockers. The LBs have no chance to make plays with this DL in front of them. Jeudy shouldn’t even be playing.

Not having 4 big bodies to combat a team that wants to run on you all game is pure stupidity.

We can't possibly do that!

I agree that the undersized line doesn't do us any favors, but I think poor LB play has been a much bigger factor. Our LBs are extremely poor at scraping off blocks and filling running lanes. It seemed like every other game we flipped between over-pursuit or not flowing fast enough. The LBs just don't seem to have good instincts. Losing both Bullock and Gbayor really hurt us bad. Honestly I want to have Ek take over LB duties as well. The names under him last time he coach LBs here: Phil Dill, Will Compton, Vonte, Alonzo Whaley, Eric Martin, Sean Fisher, Blake Lawrence... That a pretty good roster he's touched.

I don’t think you can separate the front 7 (or front 5 that Butler sometimes called). They have to be working together, especially when you run a 3 man front. That front has to eat up linemen and keep blockers off of the Lbs to allow them to take angles to scrap and fill running lanes. That never happened and the Butler never made any adjustments.

He called a 3 man front on 2nd and goal against Iowa…And that right outside linebacker isnt even a linebacker's its Rex Guthrie! They are essentially in dime right there.
