How exactly does Penn State spin this to Campbell, or anyone else at this point? "No really coach, you were our number one choice all along, we just had to go through our process first." It's better than admitting that whoever they end up with wasn't even in their top ten to begin with. They must have really thought that people would be jumping for the opportunity to coach in the middle of nowhere PA, at a program with a checkered past, and this has to be extremly humbling for everyone involved with the university. I wonder what fans are saying?
I also think this should be a perfect example of how not to handle letting a coach go for other programs. PSU should have let Franklin ride out the year, and then made decisions at the end of the season. What a mess.

Matt Campbell has had historical success in ISU terms. At some point, I think guys need to realise they might have a lifetime contract and stay.
We may never have the era of TO at Nebraska, Woody at OSU, Barry A at Wisconsin, Barry S at Oklahoma.

I wonder how it is for some of these guys.
I love my job and my school, I still look at other jobs here and there but it would really take an amazing opportunity for me to leave.
Campbell, by all accounts, could stay at ISU another 15 years. End up with over 150 career wins at ISU and make crazy money in the process. But maybe he is ready to leave or maybe he just likes flirting a bit.
