2026 QB Aidan Chiles

Gross. This is Sims 2.0. If he hits the field..Rhule is as good as fired.
He had 3 picks all year and was on a very challenged team. He is nowhere near as bad as Sims. To me he would be a great guy to bring in to compete with TJ. Trying to get anyone with better stats in here to compete for the job will be challenging unless we promise them the starting spot.

Chiles technically has a lower INT % than Raiola, 2.5% to 2.6% and a career 61% completion percentage. Sims has a career 4% INT rate and 56% completion percentage. So it's not quite that bad.

As long as he's not brought in to be the guy I don't care too much, but yeah he would be very underwhelming as the main portal QB.

Chiles would be an expensive backup. I would rather just have TJ.

Agreed, and I think it's likely TJ would beat him out for the starting spot. But as long as we're sure he wouldn't immediately transfer out upon losing the job, I don't think we can afford to care too much about the price for a playable backup. Would not be my first choice, but I don't know how interested the top guys are.

Chiles also might be the best currently available QB who is also willing to enter a QB competition and potentially stick around if he doesn't win. He's also just about the only one we can actually schedule at the moment because he's officially in the portal, most of the rest of them can't be until January. I'm sure we're talking to them, but we can't announce visits or anything.

But as long as we're sure he [TJ] wouldn't immediately transfer out upon losing the job...

This is why I think the class standing of the portal QB we snag is so important to this conversation.

If we were to grab a sophomore (which is unlikely anyway), TJ is 100% gone. And you couldn't blame him for that.

But if we grab a junior, TJ is in the same exact boat he was already in if Raiola hadn't transferred. Same situation he signed up for when he signed with us in the first place (except for maybe he was hoping Raiola would go pro after his junior year but I think we all know that wasn't going to happen after seeing year 2). It wouldn't make sense for him to get pissed off and transfer now if we bring in a junior.

And if we were to snag a senior, TJ's situation at NU is actually greatly improved. He's setup to redshirt and then be the man for three years at a place where he'll be a superstar from the fan base.

Trae Taylor may have a few things to say about that.

Assuming that he actually signs with us and assuming that Rhule isn't fired by then, I agree. :D

It all just underscores the cluster jam disaster that we have from getting rid of the undergrad transfer rule; when a decent-to-great player thinks he's not the guaranteed starter for the next season there's just such a high likelihood that he transfers.
