Who's our next coach?

When Rhule was hired, I was like ask me in a couple of years what I think of the hire. Year 4 and Curt Cignetti later, Rhule needs to $hit or get off the pot.

I think what many fans need to do is take the emotion out of this topic and assume it's note Rhule as our coach but let's say we had hired Whittingham, Matt Campbell or some other coach back in 2022. What would we have expected New Coach X to accomplish in 3 to 4 years after taking over Nebraska. Would fans be ok if Whittingham or Campbell were 19-19 after 3 seasons? And what should the expectation be for season 4 regardless of the schedule?
That is how most fans should be assessing our coaching situation regardless of the name of the coach.

What do you think Matt Campbell’s record at Iowa State was after three years?

I don't care what his record is at Iowa State. Iowa State does not have the history or resources of Nebraska. I could have picked any random coach. The point is how we go about assessing any new coach that takes over a program, and what those expectations should be, especially now in the portal and NIL era where it's much easier to turn around a program or show dramatic results.

For me, it was the blow out losses to Minnie (utter embarrassment), PSU, Iowa and Utah. Blame it on Dylan getting hurt, but that's an excuse. We were out coached and out classed in those losses. Lack of player development, some portal misses (to be expected), lack of realizing in year one, Nash and Ty were gone the next year. Running a 3-3-5 D with Butler who was a 4-3 guy (and average to poor DC at PSU). More miscues than a guy with his "resume" should have. Now firing guys he hired after 1 year. "Not a reset"...

Cristobal was 22-16 in his 1st 3 years at Miami. He had that "big" bounce in year 3. Beat 1st ranked team in 2024 (#10 ND). Year 4 he has beat 5....USF #18, FSU #18, Texas A&M #7, OSU #2, and Ole Miss #6.

He took over a "decent" Miami team and has turned them around in 3 years using the metrics of record and beating a ranked team.

I have soured on Rhule. Hoping he proves me wrong, but I think he is lost or in over his head. Posted an SI article that sums up a lot of my thoughts. Again, hope he proves me wrong.

I don’t think there’s much evidence for this. I’m probably forgetting someone, but the only examples I can really think of for this is Indiana and Texas Tech who have huge financial backing. I don’t think you can really turn around your program through the portal, you can improve at some positions, but if you aren’t developing most of your talent, you won’t win.

You know people keep saying that it is easier to turn around a program in the current era but I'm not sure anyone is objectively actually trying to figure out if that's true and just saying what they think would be true.
