Alex Henery, Punter?

meh, I always worry about ruining a good thing........

I mean he's been great this far as just being a kicker.........

I hate to have him start punting too and have his kicking suffer.........

That's what I'm thinking too. Not too excited by this news. But it looks like he's got hardly any competition, just Brett Maher, a freshman who is redshirting now.

So you're saying I should walk on and become a punter? I can get at least 40 yards pretty consistently with good hangtime...I still have eligibility!

Maher is pretty good. I played with him during part of his high school days. He could definitely surprise a few people when given the chance. Henery though, has already proven he has what it takes when it all is on the line. All in all, next year will be very fun to watch.

I'm less concerned with who's punting than I am who's covering. It's been on the atrocious side. I'd prefer Henery just stick to what he's done best so far, despite the fact that I think he's more than capable of punting.

Why are topics like this already poping up. Is it the off season I could swear there is another game.

Seriously though why not just let Alex kick no need to try and push it. He isn't a punter why try to make one out of hm

Actually, he was a great punter in H.S. and I believe a big reason they asked him to walk-on.

Alex did punt in HS and averaged 42 yards per kick.

he also can kick 40 yard field goals left footed, so if he want to try and punt also then let him

I don't want Henery punting for the simple reason of saving his leg...punting and kicking takes a toll of your leg and it will affect his kicking..

I see nothing wrong with him handling both the Punting and Field Goals. We punted 41 times this year so it’s not like that is adding that much more to his leg. If he was kicking off as well as kicking field goals no one would think anything of it and we kick off a lot more then we punt. He only attempted more then 2 field goals in 2 games this year so it’s not like we were over working him either. There were 3 games in which he only attempted 1 field goal and 4 games where he didn’t attempt any. So that makes 7 of 12 games in which he hardly kicked anything more then an extra point. I think his leg can handle the extra duty of punting.

Dead leg.

Alot of kickers can handle both responsibilities nowadays, but it isn't a good idea to let them do it for later in the season. You have to remember they do this in practice as well as a game. It's why coaches even cut them back towards the end of camp for fear of dead leg. And that is with them only handling one responsibility.
