I guess this is where this would go. I was talking to one of my friends that recently moved to Las Vegas and he was bragging about getting to watch UFC 100 (Lesnar vs Mir) live. I guess I was just wanting to see what everyone thought about MMA. I was reading an article about a boxer that died a few days after a title fight and was intrigued by the comments under the article.

Some people were saying boxing is terrible because it focuses on the head and body where MMA can have submissions and other things. Then there were people defending boxing and saying MMA was like a backyard fight where a guy mounts another guy (don't laugh) and beats the ever-living crap out of him.

Comments? Beers? I dunno. Too much time on my hands...

I love MMA!! If you have Versus check out the next WEC (owned by Zuffa, same as the UFC) fight, May 23rd. Urijah Faber vs. Mike Brown for the featherweight championship. These guys are the top two 145 lbs fighters in the world, it going to be an action packed fight. Don't miss it.

SOCAL is right about the Faber vs. Brown fight, that should be a great rematch. Their first fight was a bit of a fluke on Faber's part. (When has a spinning back fist EVER worked?) But I still think Urijah is the best p4p fighter going, and will take this one in two rounds.

:yeah I also think the first fight was a fluke!! I was wrong about the date though, I guess the fight got moved to June 7th. Didn't want to compete with the UFC Fight on the 23rd. Think it's Evans vs. Machida, Hughes vs Serra!! I hope Hughes beats Serra's a$$!!

 
WEC is fine, but I get kinda sick of watching the smaller guys all the time since WEC dropped their high weight classes.

If y'all are looking for some other fighting to watch, tune into ESPNDeportes (I know, it's in Spanish). They show the Bellator Fighting Championships which is a 3 month tournament. It's mostly American fighters, so I'm not sure why it's on ESPNDeportes, but these guys are pretty decent too. No high weight classes either, but whatev. It's on Saturday nights. They use a round ring rather than the Octogon or a boxing ring.

I agree, Lesnar was pounding Mir's face in in their last fight. I've never seen a guy so big drop into the fetal position that quickly! He was being completely dominated, and had Lesnar not been so damn green, he wouldn't have got trapped in a B.S. ankle lock!

 
agreed on lesnar winning, but i think he wins by knockout in the first or second round. there is not way this fight will go the full 5 rounds and not many heavyweight fights do. i see lesnar just flat out plowing through mir. you dont beat randy couture (even if he is old) and then turn around and lose to frank mir....

by the way, i am pumped to see the anderson silva vs. forrest griffin fight. forrest isnt gonna get knocked out so if silva wants to win he is gonna have to submit him. i think this could be the fight of the year!

I don't know, this fight's gonna be better then everyone thinks. Did you see Mir's last fight? He dominated Noguirea and looked better in the standup than he's ever looked. I think Lesnar still has a lot to learn. Yes, he beat Couture, but that was age and strength. I don't think he has either of those going for him against Mir. Well, maybe strength. Either way, I'm going with Mir in the second. We'll see though!!

So I've seen a lot of people complaining about Machida-Evans fight coming up, saying the UFC is blowing it way out of proportion and inflating these guys records to make it seem like they are other-worldly fighters. I haven't seen much of either guy, other than a few clips talking about Machida's unique stance.

I could see this one going the distance, but you never know when someone is going to slip one through your guard or get a sweet counter on you.

 
Has anybody ever seen the show "Bully Beatdown" on MTV?

It's sort of funny. Anyway, I saw a guy get choked out with a gogoplata last night on one of the reruns. I had honestly never seen it used outside of the WWE and wasn't really sure it would ever actually work in a real fight. I lol'ed.

You do when Lesnar is just a 280lbs version of a young Randy Couture.

Randy is known for his wrestling, cardio and grueling pressure from top game. He doesn't have extreme one punch KO power, which was his only hope versus Brock since he wasn't gonna put Brock on his back for long periods. You just cannot hold someone as big as Brock down.

Bad thing for Brock is that his biggest glaring weakness is Mir's biggest advantage. While I'm sure Lesnar has progressed since his first fight versus Mir, he still isn't anywhere ready for a ground war versus Mir. And on the feet, he will not have the technical striking of Mir either.

He does however have boulder for hands filled with TNT. And fortunately for him, that can be enough.

They are both decent fighters, but the way Dana White runs the UFC and the way this fight turned out, still leaves you wondering who the better fighter was. Sure, Machida beat his a$$ in the stand up and won with a KO, but that was expected. He has a far superior standup and his training in karate gives him a distinct reach advantage on anyone. Rashad wrestled at Michigan State and has an explosive ground and pound, so why did he not even try to take the fight to the ground? You have to wonder if the knockout bonuses and other incentives Dana White employs to ensure good fights, have an effect on the outcome of the fights? I think they do and I think it doesn't always result in the better fighter winning, just the one with better luck or the one with better standup.

The Faber vs Brown fight was disappointing!! Sucks Urijah broke his hands, hopefully he can rehab and gets a shot at the Aldo/Brown loser to start back on the road to regaining his belt. Here's a quick rehash in case you didn't catch it.
