LINCOLN — Tommie Frazier can't remember anything about his debut as a Nebraska quarterback.
“It all happened too fast for me to think,” he said.

A refresher: Frazier played his first collegiate game against Utah, a 49-22 NU win. He threw one pass, an incompletion. He rushed twice for 14 yards. It was Sept. 5, 1992 — 17 years to the day before Cody Green ran on the field with 12 minutes left Saturday in the Huskers' 49-3 win over Florida Atlantic.

No other Nebraska quarterback of note has played in the season opener as a true freshman. Walk-on Ryan Goodman did it in 2004 but never appeared in another game; he doesn't count.

Frazier, of course, won a pair of national championships, finished as the Heisman runner-up in 1995 and left NU with an unmatched legacy.

It's outrageously early to compare Green to Frazier. In his debut, though, Green rushed for 50 yards, including a 49-yard gallop on his first carry. He scored a touchdown and completed 2 of 3 passes.

Their connection is undeniable.

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. Green and Frazier have an "undeniable" connection?

Absolutely. We need that connection. Guys who have been there before and can mentor the guys who have to do it today. That's invaluable experience. Why anyone would take that element away from the program is baffling.

 
Let me be clear: Nothing wrong with Frazier or Green.

But good God people. Can we put a stop to this tripe before it gets even more senselessly annoying? Connection is undeniable? What connection exactly are you talking about? Is it fate? We happen to be much thinner at quarterback than we thought we'd be and Cody is our best option. Granted he's a good one, but one fifty-yard run and now he's A-the starter by conference time, and B-the next Tommie Frazier.

It's undeniable? More like incomprehensible.

Last thing we need is CG to get the idea that this is automatically his team because people are publicly praising this guy to no end. I like CG skills and potential as well, but damn, the kid ran a 49 yarder against a deflated sunbelt defense...lets not give him the 'golden child' crown just yet.......just saying

As has been said. Green has done nothing to earn any of this over-hype and praise. He is not the QB as is Lee nor is he as athletic, does he possess the arm strength and accuracy and QB skills as Lee.

If Lee's not going to get it done, do we want somebody less than him to try? I think the answer to that is a resounding NO.

Before people anoint Green as a superstar let's let him do something remotely positive first. Once he's done that let's have do it with consistency.

There are 16 Jersey Numbers retired in memorial stadium..

Cody Green's would be the 17th, and he is #17. It's Fate.

When the equipment manager asked Cody Green what size shoulder pads he wears, Cody Green informed him those were his real shoulders. Then he picked up the equipment manager and threw him two miles. With his left arm.

Cody Green once scored a touchdown by taking the snap, dropping the ball and walking off the field. The referees conferred and determined that he would have scored no matter what the defense did and awarded his team six points. Cody Green cleared his throat at the refs and they threw in the extra point for good measure.

Cody Green once played an entire game with 500 lbs of concrete strapped to his waist "just to see what it's like for everyone else."
