Disappointed in Pelini for not showing class

thuggish is unfair. thuggish is getting in trouble with the law or being reprimanded outside of the game. playing hard and making a hit you should not have is not 'thuggish'.

HuskerNLa: who are you to decide who is or isn't a true Husker fan????? On the topic, the hit against OU was deffinately not a dirty play PERIOD. Secondly, yes the hit against Reesing was late and was illegal and Asante got penalized for the hit. What else do you want? Things happen in the heat of the game... I would most deffinatley not want this D to tone down the intensity since that was what was so sorely lacking in previous years...

This thread is funny. I can remember a couple of years ago when people were complaining that Asante WASN'T hitting anyone. Now he's laying the lumber every once in a while and people think he's a thug. The play against OU wasn't dirty. The play against KU was flagged and the team was penalized 15 yards, right? Coaches hate penalties. It will probably be addressed from that angle when the players watch film of the game.

First of all, the hit Asante made on the Oklahoma player was not "dirty." It was a perfectly executed tackle. He didn't lead with his helmet, it was made by his body. Should he have just gone up and slapped the player on the hand asking him nicely to go down? I'm sure that is what our players have to do in order to get your approval.

After he made the hit, he got up and started celebrating because he broke up a play. Not sure if you ever watch college or pro football, but celebration after a big play is kind of the norm.

Secondly, Asante was already going for Reesing when he was sliding. He could've tried to avoid hitting him the way he did, but I don't think, in any way, that his intent was malicious.

You are really grasping at straws to try and make Pelini and Asante look bad. My guess is a closet KU or MU fan. Please find yourself the door. Thanks.
The game officials felt it was dirty and, from what I am hearing the Big XII does as well. But, I guess you don't care if we are seen as a bunch of thugs, you just want a winning team. Fans like you don't even know what it means to be a Husker fan.

Nope, wrong again, not a BCer, think the firing was the right thing to do. I think hiring Pelini was the right thing. But I also think Pelini looking the other way about this type of play, while we are be hammered on ESPN and SI for what Larry Asante has done the last two weeks. If Bo would just step up and do the right thing, maybe everyone could move on. Until he does, he will look classless and weak.

Sorry, but this post stinks of a BCers thoughts. I was on the bigredboard long enough to know how you guys work.

Maybe Bo should resign but before he does he should rip up the schollys of any player that was flagged this year.

HuskerNLA... nice first thread. It did make me laugh.... I bet you were satisfied with the penalty-free callahan teams, even though they lost every game.

Are you gonna call Asante's mom and tell her to ground him?

Like others have said... get off your high horse and I guarantee you, unless you have something wrong with your brain... it is very hard to believe that you wouldn't trade this years team for the 94-95 teams....

Hmmmmmmm..... Have a FEW thuggish players that in NO WAY affect your personal life and in return get some national championships and pride for Nebraska.... or have clean Bill Callahanesque players on your team and lose more games than you win.

You're smart though. :sarcasm

Couldn't be more true. It isn't like he stompped on someones throat or gouged there eyes the term thuggish is way over the top. I am curious as to what Huskernla thinks the punnishment should be.

I know I am opening myself up for attacks from Husker fans that are just glad we are winning again, but I say you are not TRUE Husker fans if you condone the conduct of Bo Pelini and Larry Asante.

I am VERY disappointed in Bo Pelini for not doing something about Larry Asante playing like a thug for the second week in a row. I hate Oklahoma and I hate KU, but I love football and there is not place for thuggish play like the celebration over injuring a OU player after making a dirty hit and then the hit on the KU quarterback was just downright dirty. We want winning football and Nebraska but not at the cost of becoming a Miami like group of thugs. I was hoping that, even though Pelini came from the Les Miles staff that he would show more class than Miles does...I guess I was wrong, he is showing himself to be just as classless. Come on Pelini, DO SOMETHING ABOUT LARRY ASANTE.

Shut the f*ck up. <_<

the op was condescending. i'm not a win at all cost fan, but i'm not going to make a tempest in a teapot. just because i am not ultra-critical does not mean i am not a fan. asante has done nothing that deserves harsher punishment than the 15 yard penalty.

I am disappointed in some husker fans for threads like this.

Everyone is responding to the hit in the OU game. It's not just that hit and celebration, it was the follow up VERY late and VERY dirty hit in the KU game. Come on, I don't want him kicked off the team, but he should at least be made to apologize. He should do this BEFORE the Big XII office steps in this week.

What good does it do in FORCING a person to say sorry?!?!?! They dont really mean it, so it carries no weight at all!

Have you noticed that neither Stoops nor Maningo have said anything about it? That tells you all you need to know.
Mangino has already filed a complaint with the Big XII, according the ESPN
Really! Provide a link to the story or it is fabricated BS by you. I checked Google, ESPN.com, Twitter, and the Lawrence Journal World for a link and there is none.

Therefore I call Bull Crap, Troll. Prove me wrong.

Yeah, I agree with the poster. I mean, Asante should have definitely had a personal foul penalty called on him for that late hit. What? There was a penalty flag thrown for it? Nebraska was penalized 15 yards for it?

Oh, nevermind then.

I'm reporting you for being Adorable...

All you guys make me laugh. You "win at all cost" guys really sum up who you are. It seems a person cannot have an opinion different from you and survive. I have looked at some of the posts you guys have made and you are really the epoch of intelligence. Thanks for making me laugh. Go Huskers!

cmon give me permission! this guy deserves it!

im going to attack his post.

how is your post going to question the character of the posters on this board? your post doesnt know any of us! your post is not a true husker fan. what does your post think a true husker fan is. your post is full of sh#t!

All im going to say about the OU hit was Larry made a big hit and a big stop, something like that, you can't help but get that ADRENALINE pumping and do a celebration, and not realize you hurt the guy.

Im pretty sure when the Blackshirts were dominating offenses week to week, they hurt guys out there and celebrated, but once again, ITS CALLED ADRENALINE that gets to you and you do something that other people may frown upon. Larry showed that when that adrenaline went down, he still showed class to clap for him as he walked off the field.

You probably didn't see, but after the game Larry did walk up to the guy and shook his hand. IF you think that makes him classless, then you might as well, call every player that hits someone on the field and celebrates not realizing they hurt the guy classless.

If i remember right, when Tebow took that hit against Kentucky, the guy got up and celebrated not realizing Tebow was knocked out cold.

My first sack playing high school came against Benson, i broke the guy's non-throwing arm, but i was so excited that it was my first i celebrated, then i say the QB laying on the ground screaming in pain, i was in shock that i broke that guy's arm.

Now as for the late hit on Reesing, it was uncalled for. But even if he was thrown out from the game, it wouldn't have made that big of a difference on the defense.
