Word is that Penn St. doesnt want it. But they are being mentioned. But the thought process is that Rutgers would bring that level of interest up. And when they had that dream season they played in front of a packed house most every game. I was one of the first to decry their bandwagon fans, but even bandwagon fans bring revenue to a school and conference. I'm not saying they're the best fit, it's just a possibility.people in NY/NJ dont care about Rutgers now. They barely paid attention during the 'dream season' a few years ago. College sports as a whole is an after thought there. And when people do care, Rutgers is the runt of that party. If Rutgers was in the Big 10, why would they not care about Big 10 sports? I thought that was a no-brainer?Why would the TV audience in NY care about Big 10 sports. Penn St would be relevant but everyone else? Makes no sense to me anyway :dunno
Speaking of possibilities, why isn't anyone mentioning Pittsburgh in this situation? I've read in a couple of places where Nebraska moving to the Big 10 is highly unlikely because our AD, Osborne, would never go for it, but if Pederson were still our AD it would be a possibility. Well, Stevie P is the AD over in Pitt, so why not them? They're a player in football, they're a player in basketball, they have a decently interested fan base, and they have decent tradition. What's not to like?
sometime you have to be careful what you wish for. you could end up with colorado st or something. MU might not be nebraska's favorite school, but they do bring the second largest population to bat (TV contracts and ad revenue) they are pretty good at a number of sports & have a pretty large fan following (best attendence outside of the top 4, tx,ok,ne&atm) All that means more money and respect for the conference. the big 12 is one of the worst set ups and deals for the major confernces. YOu will most likely not get another big school to flip and you are left raiding the MTN WEST.Don't let the door hit them in the a$$
:snacks:
amen to that. Like i told a friend, I wouldnt want MU to leave the big 8, but this current set up is far from the big 8I will say it would suck if any of the original Big 6/8 teams move to the Big 10. Sucks that the Big 12 has become the SWC +8 and not the Big 8 +4
After listening to unsportsmanlike conduct the last couple of days (not the entire show) and hearing guests and so-called experts, I really think Missouri, Notre Dame and Pitt make the most sense and will be the top 3 targets of the Big 10. They have Notre Dame before and ND is just fine being an independent. Right now, they control all, and it is a good situation for them.
MU would be a good fit in the Big 10, but I don't want to see them go. I like the "competitive" so-called "rivalry" we got goin on. We still dominate the football (tradition), they dominate the basketball, wrestling is pretty much even and baseball is NU with pretty good teams from MU.
*** Hypothetically, if MU bolts (which wont happen IMO), who does the Big 12 get. Possibly TCU in the South and move OSU to the North? Or do they go after Arkansas......who has always wanted in the big 12 and for location purposes makes a TON of sense !!!! I don't see a "new" north school comin in.
I like the idea of kicking Baylor out. No disrespect to a fine school, but their academic standards make it REALLY difficult for them to compete.
If MU's fan base is so great, why do they keep getting passed up for bowl bids by teams like ISU?sometime you have to be careful what you wish for. you could end up with colorado st or something. You know, I keep hearing this talk year in and year out. Yet I'm still waiting. <_<Well, they did beat *ahem* Mizzou this year. I honestly think they might be competitive in football in the next few years. I'm anxious to see what Briles does, he seems to be bringing improvement. And if they can beat Mizzou without Griffin, imagine who they can beat next year with him! :box
What are Baylor's academic standards? Baylor isn't that good of a school, it's just expensive and Baptist. I don't think academics has anything to do with why they field poor teams year in and year out.Geographically, there's not a lot of options in the North. We'd almost have to bring in a south school, and then shuffle one of the South division schools up here. I would love for that to be Oklahoma, but Texas would never go for that. OU probably wouldn't, either.
Losing Missouri would suck, and I would be pretty unhappy about it.

No one cares at Baylor. People graduate, move to Dallas, Houston, Oklahoma City, San Antonio and other places and aren't going to drive 150 miles or more to see a train wreck. Heck, most of the kids who go there grew up UT or Aggie fans and are more fans of the religion than anything else. Nothing great happens (conference championship, a win over a big-time program) while they are students there to convert them into hard core Bear fans. The stadium is always half empty, which can't help recruiting. Robert Griffin wouldn't be there if the track program wasn't famous for turning out 400 meter guys. What are Baylor's academic standards? which begs the question: does anyone really care about Rutgers? If Rutgers was in the Big 10, why would they not care about Big 10 sports?
