Generally, he's pretty good, but the fact that he forgot that Rex is on the team, showed a lack of attentiveness...

Not really. AndMuch of that failure was laid at the feet of quarterback Zac Lee, a one-dimensional "manager" type who failed to generate enough of a passing game – or at least enough respect for a hypothetical passing game – to keep defenses from ganging up on the respectable ground attack.
Yikessssssss.Beck's stint at Kansas suggests he's predisposed to the spread, and Martinez is undeniably a spread quarterback with more than a few similarities to former Jayhawk record-breaker Todd Reesing.
I could be wrong, but i thought the "yikes" was more about just how off that comment was. In no way is Martinez as talented a passer or as consistant a leader of the spread to even begin to compare him to Reesing. Reesing was light years ahead of Martinez as a spread QB. TM is a runner who can throw a little. Reesing was a QB who could run a little. They are not even on the same planet as players. And IMHO if Ressing had been at NE, Joe Ganz would have continued to sit the bench. I dont think it would have been that close of a QB race at all. Todd was baller and a gamer. Its not easy for me to praise a chicken hawk, but that kid was elite in many waysYikes? Don't sell Reesing short just because he played for Kansas. He'd be a vast improvement over any QB we've had the past two years, and he'd give Ganzy a heck of a run for the starting job (if not win it outright) in 2008. Reesing was a gamer, a good QB, but not highly regarded because of his size. Put that guy in a 6'4" frame and he's a star.
Are Husker fans the only ones in the country willing to give Rex some credit? Seems like everyone thinks that Helu leaving means we have no one that can produce at RB. I know that fans loved Helu, and he produced, definitely. But really Rex was the one that came into games and completely changed it. To me - he is as much a building block as TM is, if not more!Generally, he's pretty good, but the fact that he forgot that Rex is on the team, showed a lack of attentiveness...

IIRC, he had lost several members of his O Line. Didn't he lose a WR, too? I don't have time to look it up right now.Reesing was pretty horrible his final season.
As knapp said, not the gold standard, but he played on a poor team. That fact was very clear given their performance before and after him. And his senior year was far from horrible....IIRC, he had lost several members of his O Line. Didn't he lose a WR, too? I don't have time to look it up right now.Reesing was pretty horrible his final season.
Reesing isn't the gold standard of QBs, that's for sure, but he was pretty good. I really think he's analogous to Joe Ganz.
Ooops, I was yikes-ing the comparison, not putting down Reesing. I completely agree that we should be so lucky, but they are just not the same kind of player at all. Reesing has decent speed, but I don't believe he is on par with Lee in that category. Unless Taylor gets a lot slower, even if he improves at passing, the comparisons won't be there.I guess I read that wrong. I thought it was a yikes about Reesing, because that was the bolded part. It seemed to me zoogies was yikes-ing that Martinez may be similar to Reesing, and I was basically saying, "We should be so lucky."
Yes...But we haven't seen him as a junior or senior yet. So I guess it is a wait see thing here..Not?I could be wrong, but i thought the "yikes" was more about just how off that comment was.
