Cody Green to Kansas State

Ill probably get ripped for this but oh well.....

This is the problem with guys who play for Nebraska "these days." They aren't really, truly loyal to Nebraska. They don't wholeheartedly care about Nebraska. They are just here to play football. They really aren't in touch with our rivals and traditions.

Growing up in Nebraska, Nebraska football is everything. There are no other teams. Especially Kansas State.

Kansas State is a main rival of ours. I absolutely hate Kansas State. Cody Green should hate Kansas State.

Its fine that Cody Green is transferring but to go to Kansas State....come on. You can go just about anywhere else. Not Kansas State.

It really makes me question how much effort and dedication guys like Cody Green put in to prepare for Kansas State and other similar teams. If they don't truly hate the team, maybe they don't truly care if we win or lose. Im sure they want to win but they don't hurt when we lose.
If we just got players who have been interested and loyal to Nebraska their whole lives, we would suck. Texas is a different story.

Kids coming out of high school these days are in a "what have you done for me lately" state of mind. Just look at Auburn...they win the title on the shoulders of one player and a crappy coach, yet they have taken over recruiting in the state of Alabama after the Tide ruled it for 3 years in a row.
exactly, not only this, but look at the pros these days. Its not about the game anymore but how much money can I make from it. Earlier in times they didn't care about the money, but only if they got to play and couldn't believe that got paid for it.

I don't understand why he wouldn't have to redshirt a year...
He will

* Academic year in residence: Research shows that student-athletes who remain at one college or university throughout their academic careers graduate at higher rates than those who transfer. To encourage an academic focus, the NCAA requires Division I student-athletes who transfer from a two-year school and do not meet transfer requirements or transfer from one four-year school to another four-year school to spend one academic year in residence before being eligible to play There are exceptions to the rule:o If the student-athlete has never transferred before from a four-year school and meets academic requirements, that student-athlete might be able to use the one-time transfer exception (except in baseball, basketball, men’s ice hockey or football).

o If the first school dropped the sport of the affected student-athlete

o If the student-athlete never has been recruited, received an athletics scholarship or practiced beyond a 14-consecutive day period at any school or participated in competition before transferring

o If the student-athlete returns to the first school without participating at the second school

o If the student-athlete did not practice or play in his or her sport for two years

Individual colleges or universities and conferences also often have their own rules governing transfers.

If you ask me, it has nothing to do with "these days", it's always been like this. You have a very slanted perspective growing up in Nebraska, the only hypothetical way our program was ever like this in the past was because we used to have only Nebraska kids on the team, but this hasn't been the case for several decades. We recruit across the country, and 99% of the players that come here from states that aren't Nebraska (and occasionally South Dakota, Iowa, Kansas, etc.) aren't going to be really, truly loyal to Nebraska, and why should they be? Like someone already mentioned, we couldn't even fill a roster of 22 starters if we only had kids that had grown up into Husker fandom and been die-hards all their youth, and this isn't new. Kids come in, kids learn the traditions, the rivalries, the prestige, etc., and after their few years here they sometimes move on, never fully buying in or falling in love with the program the way that you and I are, and sometimes they stick around, becoming a true Husker according to our fan definition and they fall in love.

Scott Frost turned his back on Nebraska for an attempt to go the NFL. He then coached at KSU during the Callahan years. Do you question his loyalty towards NU and the state of Nebraska?

I don't see what the big deal is with Cody Green going to KSU--KSU is a sub .500 football program with little for future prospects and will ultimately be hampered by having to suckle at Bevo's teat for funding.

Cody Green is going to a place where he can shine so his future aspirations (which likely include the NFL) get a chance. Unless you QB at USC, it's rare for a second or third string QB to be considered a draft prospect. Being the first string QB for a perennial sub .500 program who gets them to a bowl game again--that's hero material that gets you noticed by the pundits.

That's all this is--a way for Cody to have a chance. And frankly, Cody hasn't done anything wrong in his stay in Lincoln--let's just wish him well and move on.

Kansas State?

Thought it would be somewhere in Texas.
I hadn't heard he had made a choice yet but I would guess this would be the best time for it. I believe he spoke to Houston, Tulsa, Baylor, K State, Florida and if you believe yahoo sports Boise State. I know Bo personally called Houston for him and at the time Cody was worried the coach wouldn't be there after this season. The next three he had contacts with out of High School and Florida kind of popped up unexpectedly. Its too bad that Houston can't lock its coach down for 2-3 more years because that would probably be the best place for him as the school has a good offense and plays in a weak conference which would allow him some success and a chance to build his confidence.

As any kid trying to find his way in life. I wish him well.

Wish Cody the best of luck. I was really excited to see the guy play when we first signed him...he turned out to be vastly mediocre. I met him in Stillwater and think he's pretty cool chap.

Granny Snyder is college football's version of those old beach comber guys with their metal detectors. Always on the lookout for a rusty nickel that someone may have dropped. And I guess Cody's 1-3 completions last October for 8 yards total passing really impressed Granny Snyder. Light 'em up down there Cody!
