Running Back for 2013

You said that you don't like his film, you think he's slow, and you don't understand why he even got an offer from us. So yeah, going from common sense, I would say that's what that means.
Maybe you should stick to words on the page instead of your common sense.

Am I impressed by his film: No.

Do I think he looks slow: Yes.

Do I think the offer could have been better used elsewhere: Yes.

Do I hope that he is a superstar: YES.

Could he be a superstar: YES.

Is he a guaranteed failure: NO.

Assuming things will just make you look foolish.

I'm optimistic at this point that the team will be a much improved version of what we saw on the field in 2011.
Offensively, I agree entirely. We're returning nearly all the pieces of a 2011 team that didn't execute to their potential. Another year under their belt and hopefully the little things (drops, vision, penalties, fumbles) will be minimal.

However, I'm going to be skeptical about the defense until about week 8. In past seasons I would have just said "oh Pelini is there, so no worries we'll be fine", and that might have been the case this year if we were still in the Big12. I think Pelini could own just about every offensive coordinator in the Big12. I bet he sat around in his office w/ other coaches laughing about how silly he made some of them look. The Big10 is different though. It's more fundamental defense versus scheming. I think that's why the word "execute" became such a buzz-word this season. There's nothing special about some of these offenses that ran all over us. Most are like the Titans: "I run 6 plays, split veer. It's like novacaine. Just give it time, always works"
Good call.

I have a feeling majority of Husker Nation is going to be impatient with how long it takes Bo to adjust to the new conference style. Hopefully he grows as a coach and we grow more patient as a fan base.

Assuming would be foolish if that's what I did. Maybe you should look one more time at what you said:

To be honest . . . I'm not sure why this guy got an offer. I don't ever see him catching on at RB
I'm not going to go back and forth with you and have a he-said-she-said argument, so for the sake of the board, just drop it.

Oh. My opinion that I don't think he will catch on at running back = he is a guaranteed failure.

That's bullet proof logic.

Lopsided scores maybe, but the game was in doubt late in most of your examples.
That's right.

It's not like we were blowing them out by 4 or 5 tds. A couple of mistakes could have had us lose one or more of those games. Can you imagine the total meltdown reaction then?
Seriously? You think we were a couple of mistakes away from losing to Chatanooga (5 TDs) or Minnesota (4 TDs)? And were Wisconsin (5 TDs) or Michigan (4 TDs) a couple of mistakes from losing to us? That's some pretty HUGE mistakes...like TMart handing the ball off to a Minnesota linebacker then blocking for him down the field. Not a chance, the game was not in doubt late in any of my examples save maybe Iowa. But even then...that was a pretty dominating win with opportunities for all three of Green/Heard/Abdulla (Yet Burkhead still carried the ball 38 times).
Yes, I'm serious.

The Michigan St (24 - 3) or Iowa (20 - 7) games could have easily gone bad with an additional mistake or two. I don't even want to imagine the pitchfork mob's actions if Bo had 5 or 6 losses. It's vicious enough with four, thank you.

Lol!

You gotta be kidding me. Husker Nation is already wayyyyyy, way past being impatient. There's a statistical and mathematical zero chance the haters grow more patience. Remember the wild orgy when they fired Frank/Bo for "only" going 10 - 3? You better believe they would do it again in four nano-seconds if given any chance whatsoever.

Luckily Bo knows TO calls the shots, not them. TO is no Pedeyshine (thank God).

Fully agree the offense will roll and the defense struggles early and then slowly comes around. We'll be a load to deal with, imo.

how in the hell do you expect the offense to roll when we only have 1 running back that is a lock.......Rex.....and the same qb......?

I just don't see them being as sloppy as last year. They almost have to be better if for no other reason than 12 months has gone by. Almost the entire offense returns, the depth behind that 1 running back while still unproven and unexperienced will no longer be freshmen, our receivers will no longer be freshman, and Beck is no longer a freshman (OC). We aren't going to unload 50 on Michigan...but we averaged what...27 points a game last year? (IIRC). I see that jumping up to 31-32. That's 1-2 more wins last season.

Now, the defense on the other hand...that's 1-2 more losses, so we'll end up with similar results. :)

I still don't get why you think the defense will be worse next year. The defense was really young in 2011 and really not very good to be honest. I don't care if we do lose 2 all-americans, if the defense is not better in 2012 I will be surprised and extremely disappointed.

We lost our best DT, our best LB, and our best CB . . . from an average defense . . . and you expect it to be better next year?

What are your reasons?

i cant help but think that the younger guys will get some carries then last year, Rex is a best but i like to think that Bo cares about his players enough that he will distribute the ball more evenly between the stable of backs we have. Rex has a NFL career ahead of him and Bo knows that and is going to try to do everything he can to help Rex acheive that. Will rex still get the majority of the carries? absolutely. will he carry the ball 38 times in a game again? doubtful. there are 2 young backs who have been in the system for a year now and should have a better grasp on the offense and be better adjusted to D1 football. Plus Tmart is another year older and hopefully the passing game is more effective and we wont have to rely on the running game as much. we will still be a run first offense, but if we run more of an oregon style offense like beck wants to, there will be alot of quick slant/screen passes that SHOULD be easy completed on a regular basis, and that should help keep defenses more honest and then they shouldnt be able to stack the box on us like they did this year.

The same "best" DT was not healthy for almost all of last year and our "best" cb was healthy for less than half of last year.

So that leaves "one" great player to be replaced from last year's average defense. Lots of young talented coming on board and there's an excellent chance they'll play better than Thorell, Fisher, Cassidy, etc.

Our qb is a LOT better than you imply and even more important.....our Oline will "finally" start getting good talent and depth this year. That's how. Year two for our OC & offense help also.

For icing on the cake, there's even hope our wrs learn how to catch the ball. Our offense will be effective or better this year.
