  1. Just wondering if there is any truth to a rumor I heard that Arch Manning is considering a transfer to Nebraska? I heard a lot of Nil is being raised for that purpose.
  2. Listening to one of the local radio stations the other day and they said our wide receivers have not improved since Scott Frost has arrived. Do you guys agree with this? With having such an elite wide receiver coach still living in Lincoln is there any way we can get Keith Williams back on the staff? I am also excluding Stanley Morgan and JD Spielman from this discussion since they are naturally gifted athletes.
  3. I am purchasing a 6 passenger Golf cart and am now having to sell my beloved Husker Golf Cart. 4. ..I’ve been looking to see if Phillip has been told to pound sand yet...anyone heard...? His 45% body fat linemen is a stand-alone metric itself, on top of the obvious evidence the whole country already saw..no core push power whatsoever...and Our D line get shoved to side like a HS JV squad...I heard all the hype about stoltenburg in offseason how “strong” he got...BS..he gets moved aside like a tree that looks the part but has NO trunk whatsoever..
  5. Is anyone else uncomfortable with how much the DoD seems to be embedding itself into athletics, particularly football, on both the collegiate and professional levels? It isn't healthy. Who at the university is responsible for things such this past weekend's Veteran and Military Appreciation game?
  6. I won't eat Nachos on game day.. wondering who else has Superstitions on game day
  7. I paid $9 for a beer and $20 to park yesterday. I have never paid such high prices in Lincoln. A failed football program has enormous financial implications throughout the whole state and for years if this continues. USA Today reported a few years back that UNL athletics had revenue of $101m and expenses of $98m; top numbers for the NCAA and one of the few programs that shows a profit. With more conference revenue and the new Adidas deal, the gross revenue today probably approaches $150 million. The top AD staffers and coaches (all sports) probably take 15% of the gross. What the AD knows is that probably about 10-15% of that revenue is in immediate jeopardy if this continues. Although Riley is paid $2m plus, terminating him this season would be a bargain. Turner Gill is the solution. He is winning at Liberty. Liberty beat Baylor. Baylor is better than NIU. Turner's time at Kansas can't be held against him. Nick Saban couldn't win at Kansas. Turmer, of course, has a direct connection to the Glory Days and Dr. Tom. If he can recruit and win at Liberty, then surely he can win at Nebraska. Paying Turner $3m would be appropriate if he can turn the program around. If not Turner, then Joe Mogilia at Coastal Carolina. He could work for the bargain rate of $1 million. One comment to me by a fan yesterday was that he was afraid that the NIU loss looks like the new normal. That, my friends, is a serious danger. Why should I drive miles to Lincoln and sit in the cold when I can stay at my home on the Rez and watch them lose without all of that time and expense? The saddest thing about yesterday is that it looks like the basketball team is better than the football team. How could we have sunk so low? Footnote: Per SCOTUS, Pender is on the Indian reservation although we thought otherwise for decades.
  8. Okay so I'm watching the NFL Network most notably the show "Path To The Draft" and I keep hearing about Oklahoma State and Texas A&M QBs Brandon Weedon and Ryan Tannehill. Based on how these guys played in college I simply can not believe that anyone in the NFL is thinking about drafting these two turds. Both are marginal QBs who were able to put up the numbers they did because the vast majority of teams they faced never blitzed them. Teams that blitzed Tannehill and Weedon ate them for lunch. I simply do not understand why these guys are even getting looks because the game tape doesn't lie. Are there any other players you guys are hearing about being drafted and saying wtf? Or do you have any other commentary on the draft?
  9. Hey Huskers - Getting ready for what's going to be a GREAT weekend in Lincoln, and would love some local advice. I'll bring you all some of Oregon's finest micro-brews and macro-weed - as long as you share some of your BBQ with us! Here's a few questions for your trolling pleasures... Night before Festivities - rolling into town around 11pm. Drop our stuff and head to which bar? Where are the drinks the strongest, the girls the prettiest and the music the loudest on a night before gameday? Bars close at 2am? Any after hours joints (pun intended)? Best place to get a late night second dinner? Morning of Golf - we've got two, duplicate tee times scheduled, Pioneer and Highland. Which of these to have a threesome do nine holes at 8am? Any pairs out there that want to play with us? Tailgate - we're on foot from our hotel to the stadium after the AM golf. I hear that under the overpass is where the true locals roam. What's a 'can't miss' tailgate experience? Did Nebraska invent the corn hole game? Want to invite us to come to your tailgate and talk about the speed in our secondary and how Mike Reilly has been and always will be, Oregon's #1 ladyfriend. We'd love to talk with you! DM me and we'll stumble your way. Champions Club - spent some money on these seats, and I understand they're behind glass. Do you know if these seats get us into anything special in the tailgate? Is there free booze to compensate for spending our children's junior college tuition to attend a football game? If we want to yell, and blaze green - are we going to get ostracized, or is there a more engaged crowd other than the corporate alumns? Post-Game - where do you head for dinner on your way back to KC? We're thinking of catching some of the Sprint Nationals at the US 36 raceway that evening. Got any advice for gettin' real country and sleeping in the mud? Them Missous love them some racin'. Thanks for your reply, looking forward to being that tiny speck of green in the sea of red. Puddles the Duck.

  11. This video 'campaign' may not go anywhere, but I saw it scroll past on social media so I thought I'd pose the underlying question: Have the costs of collegiate athletics surpassed their worth? And as a caveat - what is their worth? The video picks on college football. This overview is not very well written, but it outlines the topic and includes the embedded video: http://www.filmsforaction.org/watch/college-athletics-are-stealing-your-future/ Also see http://www.presidentialfootball.com/index.php. I do have to admit I was surprised how much the University of Ohio students were paying in student fees - I think the video asserts that they pay almost $6000 over the course of an undergraduate degree, with the majority of these fees going to their football program. Obviously, this isn't the case everywhere (Virginia Tech students, for example, pay less than $300 annually for sports programs), but given the atmosphere surrounding student loan debt, I could see arguments being made that it shouldn't be the students who foot this bill. And if it is not the students who pay for it, who should? Big time programs probably carry their own weight, but those big time programs need to be able to fill up their schedules with somebody. Any thoughts?
  12. Hi everyone, longtime lurker checking in. My last post here is from the Callahan era! My friend Justin and I are starting a Husker fan podcast this fall. Back in April we took our first step by recording a "preview episode" after the spring game. If you've got about a half hour to spare, I'd be thrilled if you gave it a listen and shared your feedback: http://www.mikeharvat.com/huskers/huskers.mp3 Please know that there are already a LOT of things we want to improve before we record our first real episode, most importantly... - Improved audio quality (We were testing a Skype recording program with Justin calling in while driving in western NE). This includes a more balanced mix and more audio production in general. - Well-defined and delineated segments (e.g. Weekly recap, Huskers in the NFL, trending topics in Husker Nation) So basically, it will sound better and have more organization come September, but I think this preview captures the spirit of what we want to create. Our goal is to make it interesting for our fellow fans by keeping it entertaining, educational, and enthusiastic. We will take your feedback and criticism to heart! Thanks, - Mike

  14. This blog has Gregory at 7 to the Bears.. I've seen him a few spots higher and a few lower.. Where do you think he can move up: http://thefmproject.com/2015/03/23/tfmp-nfl-mock-draft-1-0/#more-1126
  15. Coach Riley wants to hire a Walk-on Coordinator. I personally think this is great. I think the key points this person should have would be: 1) Must have roots in Nebraska. This person needs to know what it’s like to grow up with the dream of playing in Memorial stadium. 2) Must have recruiting experience. Has to be able to convince the kids to give up a scholarship offer from other schools and walk on in Lincoln. 3) Must already have a good relationship with the Nebraska high school coaches (especially in Omaha and Lincoln). If the coaches are on board they can help convince the kids that Nebraska is the best place to be. I think we can lock down this state and make it hard for any outside schools to recruit here. What do you think about the key points? Ultimately I want to know who you think Coach Riley should look at. --- Sorry if there is already a discussion on this topic. I searched for it and could not find one.

  17. I hadn't done this crap since '08, I occasionally forget how much time it consumes. Anyhow, I figured I'd get one done just in time for tomorrow's '14 season opener the bit rate is a little low, my laptop has slowed down recently so I got lazy when it came time to export the thingy.
  18. Heya Huskers, I'm looking for a way to download a 2014 Nebraska football schedule poster layout with score boxes that I can print with my large format digital printer. Does anyone know where I can get one or multiple poster layouts? The ones I have found online are really cruddy looking. Similar to these attached layouts. Thanks in advance, Matt
  19. I went back and spent a lot of time reanalyzing this game as well as seasons prior and I have some points i hope we can discuss without causing a flame war or anything. I'll start off gentle by stating i think Tim Beck is the worst thing to ever happen to Taylor Martinez. My reasoning. When one looks at TM over all as a player the first thing you notice is that TM is a gifted runner. We haven't enjoyed a play maker like him at the QB position since Crouch really. And how is Time Beck using him? Well he wants him to throw the ball that's how. It's like taking one of Oregon's running backs and asking him to run right up the gut in the I formation. He won't succeed for long. He belongs in the open field making people miss. To TM's credit he has made the best of it by getting help improving his pass game but in all reality TM's talent sets call for us to be utilizing him in an offense like Oregons, or Nevada's pistol Read option offense. And instead of Running more read option and Belly G option, and power football with our talented I-backs to set up a deadly play action to Bell and Enunwa we ask Taylor to throw the ball into defense's that know whats coming. Taylor doesn't excel at reading and dissecting defenses like Peyton manning or Brady. He is just an Option QB doing his damned best to do what Beck tells him. And it's eerily similar to what Callahan did to Joe Daily in 2004. Our offense in 2010 was run and option heavy and very successful before injuries derailed it. And we trashed a lot of it. Why? Taylor thrived in this offense! And what do we have now? Well we have what you saw last Saturday. We saw, as we have for some time now, and offense that comes to play for a half. Sometimes two if the incompetent play calling doesn't derail their rhythm. We sort of establish an identity running the ball then pull the chain hard and pass, and then we establish an identity there we score some. Then we pull the chain again, and again, and again. And either at some point in the first or as it was in the second half last Saturday we run up the white flag and cease to operate at all, largely due to pathetic play calling, and of course it's usually on the biggest stage. And who losses and looks the worst out of all this? Certainly not Beck, for some reason he always walks away clean. No instead the option QB and the offense that did as it was told gets trashed along with Bo. But the biggest "victim". That would be our young defense, that played it's heart out. Instead of chewing clock and giving them time to rest and regroup. Beck repeatedly threw them back out there with his pathetic offensive play calling. Putting all the pressure on this young untested defense to make a play to get us back in the game. You can only do this so long and not get burned. We got burned, and bad. UCLA is a great team, we had a chance to beat them, Tim Beck in my mind squandered that opportunity due to his incompetence. Tim has called some good games, but last Saturday was bad, he drug the whole team down. What are your thoughts?
  20. For all those not liking Kentucky football these days. Looks like Kentucky is having their own issue with dismissing of players. http://sportsillustr...l?sct=obnetwork
  21. If you haven't been in the Husker Football subforum or don't really care how Nebraska could have done if the Huskers were in a different conference, I have been doing separate cluster analyses for each major conference, identifying the different types of teams within the conference as well as which type of team had success in the conference. In addition to that, I've also been looking at cluster versus cluster matches, looking at how each cluster played against the other. Now that I've completed the Big Ten, I would like to take a walk on the wild side and make a prediction for each team's record for the upcoming season. **A word of warning: These predictions, like any other prediction are based off assumptions. For this one, I'm assuming (1) there will be no injuries/suspensions to the team's starting offense or defense and (2) each team will closely follow their prior season's (2012) trends.** That set aside, here is my season preview for the teams in the Legends Division: Iowa Hawkeyes Last Season: The 2012 season was a rough one for Kirk Ferentz's Hawkeyes, as they went 2-6 in Big Ten play. Defensively, there wasn't much to complain about, as the Hawkeyes boasted above average rushing and passing defenses. While they didn't force many turnovers, they did force an above average amount. The problem last year's team faced was on the offensive side of the ball. Returning QB James Vandenberg was supposed to deliver a big passing season for the Hawkeyes, but when the season was all said and done, Iowa was nothing more than mediocre when it came to the passing game. To make things worse, a much maligned corp of running backs struggled to generate a lot on the ground. Mark Weisman did provide a bright spot; but it was too little too late for the Hawkeyes. Where the focus should be: To return to success, Iowa must keep doing the same thing on defense. They must continue to shut down opposing offenses. On the offensive side, Iowa should shift their focus to developing a steady running attack, especially with the departure of Vandenberg bringing in a new QB. Successful teams in the Big Ten run the ball more and run it more effectively. That doesn't mean shy away from the passing game, because Kevonte Martin-Manley needs to be utilized as well. Throw the ball less. Run the ball more. Run to set up the pass; and whenever you do pass, that first target should be Martin-Manley. Changes in the 2013 opponents: The new additions to the 2013 conference schedule do not do any favors for the Hawkeyes. Instead of playing Indiana, a team they should beat more than lose to, and Purdue, a team they should beat about an equal amount of times as they lose to, they get Ohio State and Wisconsin. According to like teams' performance against the Buckeyes and the Badgers, Iowa should have a better chance to beat Wisconsin than Ohio State, but the chance is small. The 2013 conference schedule and predicted result: @ Minnesota--WIN: Minnesota and Iowa are from the same cluster; I however, see Iowa making more improvements towards becoming a successful Big Ten offense than Minnesota. It'll be close, but I think the Hawkeyes win this game. vs. Michigan State--LOSS: Having a new QB is going to cost the Hawkeyes in this game. Michigan State, already a good passing defense will make it very difficult for Iowa to move the ball. This will allow Sparty to cue in on the run game and shut that down. Michigan State, if it tries to develop into a passing first team like I think they will with the departure of Le'Veon Bell, they will struggle against everyone besides Illinois and Indiana. It'll be low scoring, but in the end I think Michigan State has too much talent. @ Ohio State--LOSS: Not even close, the Bucks will be too much for Iowa in this game. vs. Northwestern--LOSS: Closer than the game versus the Buckeyes, but Northwestern will still be too much for the Hawkeyes to handle in this game. vs Wisconsin--LOSS: This game will be an interesting one, as whoever has had the home field has always seemed to win. Wisconsin will be featuring a new coaching staff, but I don't think they'll stray away from their running game with James White and Melvin Gordon providing two very good threats to opposing run defenses. Iowa will have some success running the ball on their own, so I think whoever has more success passing, of which Wisconsin has the better personnel will win this game. @ Purdue--WIN: Purdue also has a new coaching staff, so it's hard to tell, especially with where they have their talent, what they'll do in terms of offense. It'll be a close game as no matter what Purdue does Iowa will be ready for it. In the end I think Iowa manages to take this game from the Boilermakers. vs. Michigan--LOSS: This won't be close, Michigan will be too much for Iowa. @ Nebraska--LOSS: While Nebraska's porous at times run defense sets up well for Iowa, the Hawkeyes will have to score in heaps (and by heaps I mean at least 28 points) to keep up with Nebraska's offense, which will be slowed a little by Iowa's defense, but not to the tune of the weather induced 13 points surrendered last year, nor the 20 points the year before. Final Record: 2-6: It looks like another slow season for Iowa, who will need to go 4-0 in non-conference play to have a chance to make a bowl game. Best Chance of an Upset: Wisconsin: Iowa's defense will be more than ready to handle the Badgers's offense. It'll be a question of whether Iowa's offense can move the ball enough to give them the chance to win.
