  1. What about them? They can't complete with the big boys in the league. Heck they can barely compete with the bottom feeders of college football. They'll be lucky to keep the Penn st game within 4 tds.

  2. Says everything you need to know about this staff's expectations. From this fan's perspective last night was perfect. My favorite team pulled out a win, but it was still abundantly clear that this coaching staff isn't good enough.

  4. Nebraska plays Northwestern at home this Saturday, marking the 360th straight sellout* in a continuing, nation-leading sellout streak. It will be one day past the 55th anniversary of the first sellout in the streak, 11/3/1962. Some stats about the streak: The streak began with a loss. Nebraska was defeated 16-7 by Missouri when the streak began in 1962. Counting by 25s, there have been 14 milestone games in the streak (25 games, 50 games, 75 games, etc). Nebraska is 13-1 in milestone games. The lone loss was to Colorado in 1990, 27-12. More than 27 million people have attended games at Memorial Stadium during the streak. The first million-fan milestone occurred in 1966, when Nebraska defeated Kansas State 21-10 during Homecoming. The ten-millionth fan to watch a game saw Nebraska defeat Oregon in 1986, 48-14. The twenty-millionth fan during that streak saw Nebraska defeat Kansas State 27-25 in the last home game of the 2005 season. The most recent million-fan milestone occurred this year during the season opener against Arkansas State, when the 27-millionth fan walked through the gates. Nebraska won that game, too. The Huskers are 306-53 at home during the streak, good for an .853 winning percentage. Twenty-eight of those 53 home losses have occurred since 2000. Twenty-five of them have occurred since we fired Frank Solich. Nebraska has a .743 winning percentage at home since 2004. The longest home losing streak since 1962 is four games, from the last three games of 1968 to the first home game of 1969. Nebraska only lost twice at home in the 1990s: To Washington in 1991 and to Texas in 1998. Notre Dame currently holds the nation's 2nd-longest sellout* streak. With an average of seven home games per season, the Irish would need more than a decade of continuous sellouts to break Nebraska's ongoing record. The Green Bay Packers hold the NFL's longest sellout* streak at over 325 games. * Like Nebraska, both the Fighting Irish and the Packers have had "assistance" in buying tickets during their streak. People like to say Nebraska's streak isn't legitimate - it's as legitimate as anyone else's.

  6. We need to force MR to retire but honor his contract. Announce publicly that he is out at the end of the year. Everyone cheers like mad for Nebraska. The players try their hardest to send MR out a winner, and there are no worries about MR being here next year.
    7 points
  7. MR is an idiot and we got lucky to win. With 3 minutes to go and a chip in field goal he decided to go for it on 4 and 6. Which turned the ball over to the other team on the 20 and no points to gain. A competent coach would have kicked the fg, then kicked off and put the opposing team on the same 20yd line only by 2 instead of being down by 5. Thus preventing an improbable drive for a last second TD because he would have only needed a FG to win.

  8. Sure but it takes out rumors and speculation. UF can now begin their search in a very public way. Look how our own fan base was torn last night. People were glad we won but feared success might keep the current HC. Florida does not need to deal with that now.

  9. How about them Huskers....beat down by teams with a pulse. 44 total rushing yards against the 69th best rushing D, took the final 72 seconds to win (on an impressive drive) against a prevent D, inability to develop depth or the talent on hand and only took game 8 to realize that the TE is in fact an eligible receiver..... And the above referenced staff member "write about that sh!t" as if beating a bottom feeder of a team (which we almost lost to twice in 3 tries) is news worthy. It's what the great teams do. They beat lesser teams down. We don't. We barely won. Glad to see that the Oregon State mentality has firmly entrenched itself into the psyche of the staff, recruiters and unfortunately the team....

  11. i learned that some husker fans have some deeply disturbing freudian slips posting after a game.

  12. I learned the following: (1) Mike Riley is insignificant. I believe that the team will actually do better if he was not standing along the sideline chewing gum, looking clueless every time we get a penalty against us, and have a defeated posture throughout the game. (2) Where the hell was Hoppes the past two years? (3) We can’t run the ball to save our lives. (4) It has been centuries since our last trick play. (5) It has been centuries since we last blocked a punt. (6) Our Play calling is BORINGLY PREDICTABLE. (7) Northwestern is going to destroy us. (8) Penn State is going to annihilate us and erase us from FBS records. (9) Mike Riley and his coaches continue to rob Nebraska blind. (10) Eichorst was a deeply delusional human being who probably thought aliens told him to hire Riley because they saw the future. (11) I enjoyed our last win of the season. It was brutally fun. I hated and liked myself at the same time for having hope we can beat Purdone. (12) Stop with the “what did we learn” topic. The answer is always: Nothing we do not already know. Mike Riley is a real coach as the Geco in the Geico commercials is a real talking Geco.

  13. Good for Tanner Lee and the Cornhuskers for not quitting. A win is a win, so good for them. Tanner Lee vs Purdue: 32/50 - 431 yards, 2 TDs. 7/8 for 69 yards on the final drive. Great performance by that young man. However, this win doesn't change anything going forward for the Mike Riley coaching staff (except maybe Coach Parella) What did we learn?

  14. You know I've thought about that whole Riley hire. Now imo it never should have happened, but in the end, if it's potentially the reason Nebraska gets Frost, then I can get a tiny bit of peace from that. Because at least with Frost I feel like nebraska has a chance at winning.

  16. Everyone needs to relax including me about this Florida firing. Frost isn't going to take the Florida job in the middle of the season. He's going to finish the season at UCF before he starts worrying about what his next step might be if for anything for the team. There is ZERO way he's not going to wait and see what Nebraska is going to do. There hasn't been more perfect timing for him and us to try and make this happen. I agree it would be swell for Nebraska to come out and announce that Riley is retiring so Frost knows where we stand as a program if he does end up being our #1 target. That way we can begin to try and make moves as a program a little easier. At least this is what I keep telling myself today.....................

  17. It is an absolute embarrassment to be fired up about beating a 3-5 Purdue team by one point.

  18. They have been forced to talk about possible replacements. The game announcers, BTN analysts, etc are. ESPN has stopped mentioning the team completely. They scroll our scores at the bottom of the screen while discussing good teams. The BTN announcers mentioned how NE played terrible but pulled out a win they needed. The nation isn't blind to what's happening. If they don't talk about what everyone else is talking about, they aren't doing their jobs. Beat Oregon and NIU, play better against Arkansas state and Purdue and nobody would say anything since they would be bowl eligible already with losses to top 10 teams. They look confused, have poor fundamentals, undisciplined penalties, odd play calling and clock management, you name it. But 6-2 and it would take a collapse for them to be talking about coaching changes, instead of needing to win 3 or 4 with solid play to stop talking about coaching changes.

  21. I didn't watch the presser, so this is coming from an uneducated perspective specifically relating to the presser. However, body language, posture etc go a long way in installing confidence. When one is called upon to be an instructor, or for all intensive purposes, a subject matter expert (SME), you have to let the respective audience know your credentials and convey the reason why you are "the guy". It's not rocket science, nor bragging. Just a blurb about why you are there. The audience then decides to "buy in" based upon your ability to convey the message, observing you "practice what you preach" and see that they are improving and taking the the classroom lessons into real world applicability. Riley's body language does not convey confidence to me. When I see the games, whatever we are doing in practice doesn't translate onto the field. Not everyone is a great public speaker, but I do think that the often "haphazard" execution of the fundamentals, the constant penalties and miscues and no accountability is a microcosm of how the practices and program are under Riley. Watched some games yesterday. Harbaugh pulls O'Korn, ASU pulled one of their guys for a few series last night after mistakes....Gates has started 31 games IIRC. How many has he ever been pulled from? None. Conrad? The DB's.....Lee. Even to settle them down and coach them up. If not for injury, Farniok, Decker and Jaimes wouldnt see the field this year. This goes back to paragraph 1 above.....It goes back to the audience (team) believing you are the guy to get them there. I don't see anything that leads me to believe the guys are "positive" Riley and Co are the guys...Why bust my hump, when guys in front of me continually blow assignments and are continued to play. If I'm Gates, I'm questioning why in year 3 with the same coach am I getting my a$$ handed to me by "inferior" DL......That's seeing the practice not translating to the playing field. Doubt creeps in because the SME has no idea. The same speech that doesn't translate... Watching Miami vs UNC. UNC implodes at the end with a chance to win. Mack Brown says when a team is losing lie UNC (0-6 game time) they find a way to lose. Inferring its starting to be who they are. NU is becoming that way IMHO. If not for a Herculean effort by the O on that last drive and Purdue going into prevent, we lose last night. To Purdue with our grand total of 44 yards rushing...

  30. Guys. I can tell you as an OU fan. We would love to come the conference. I think the rivalry is great for both schools. As we have mutual respect for each other. It's way diffferent than we have with Texas. I honestly believe it would help you to get more guys out of Texas. Don't think we have forgot about you guys. We talk a lot about the Big Red on our sports talk shows #Go Big Red! #Boomer Sooner!

  32. I don't always agree with Josh Peterson but I thought this tweet was pretty spot on: I didn't get to watch the game as I was at a wedding. But, after somewhat following the score throughout the night, and looking at the final score/stats, I think Peterson's tweet is accurate. I still can't get over how bad some of would-be veterans are playing. It's baffling.

  34. Positives: Bradley, Spielman, Morgan, Lee, Kalu, Brown Final drive to win...did it when it mattered most Negatives: OL is terrible...like one of the worst in the country terrible Dropped balls That DPE has 5 defenders around him and must fair catch every punt. I don't think we even practice punt returns...it is pathetic. Defense in general lacks motor, energy, big play ability, gives up too many yards after contact In general this was two bad football teams playing each other and someone had to win.

  35. Sure, Lee hasn't lived up to all of the hype but he's not a bad QB, it's too bad the season started with all the INTs. He played well tonight. Also, this coaching staff blows

  36. First off, happy the program won. I noticed something post-game and wanted to get others thoughts. I've never figured out how to embed tweets from mobile so if someone would like to post them, please do. I watched Riley's locker room speech. He said some good things, some corny things, stumbled through some, then did the hip hop hoorays which are funny. But then I watched Matt Campbell's. Totally different feel. I just sat there in awe. Well versed, delivered a great message that you could feel he meant. Maybe doesn't mean anything, but if those speeches are even a fraction of a glimpse into the daily culture being set within the two programs....ISU is headed to a better place.

  38. 1. I don't buy into all the transfer hype. Kids will be mad at first and then get over and love their new coach. I heard a rumor that supposedly POB has started doing speed/agility training to try to prepare for Frost. It's all rumors and hearsay. At least 1-2 of Lee, Gebbia, POB will stay. Frost's current commit is from Mich... I'm assuming it's be pretty easy for flip him. Could add a JUCO/grad transfer pretty easy if our depth chart truely that open. 2. Bookie is gone regardless. Kids like him don't come to .500 schools. Moore is 50/50 regardless. KJJ, frankly do we really care? This year's class would likely end up average or slightly below, but Frost could be headed into 2019 class full speed ahead.

  44. You gloss over two decades of what was part of one the greatest dynasties in CFB history with that kind of statement? No. It was Franks program, I'm sure it took a lot for TO to remain in the shadows. What could Tom do to help recruiting "why hello young man, you won't be playing for me but I sure would like you to come to NU". What? Name any other AD without Google. I can think of one, DeLoss Dodd, only due to his unique name and the incredible job he did at UT, and he's retired. SE was correct insofar ADs should not really be known. Mmmmmkkkkkay.... Nebraska is a fishbowl, just like any other Blue Blood program. Overall, we actually seem to handle ourselves pretty well. I've yet to see anyone fly planes over games with banners slamming the coach (Tenn, Mich), possibly make death threats (Fla), or poison historic trees (granted that guy was a nutter but point still stands). If we get a new coach people will be critical, people will send messages and post how they think the new guy isn't cutting if for (insert reason here). I cant remember who said it at the announcement of SEs termination, it's when those messages stop, that's when we need to worry.
