  1. I don't think anyone needs to panic about reports of second thoughts. We've learned a lot about Scott Frost, the person, this season and it seems like his main motivator is not money or championships, it clearly seems to be loyalty. Loyalty explains why he narrowed his choices down to UCF and Nebraska, why Florida didn't have a shot and why Oregon had a better shot than FSU. He told us himself, "I'm loyal to my alma mater" "I'm loyal to the guys I go to battle with". No wonder it was such a gut-wrenching decision for him. It has nothing to do with facilities or weather or money, he felt loyalty to two different institutions and could only choose one. I completely believe any reports he was getting cold feet, but not because he's not committed to Nebraska, but because he's a guy that never wanted to betray anyone and was forced to pick a side. There will always be second-guessing for guys like that. He'll be 100% after the Peach Bowl, but maybe not until then.

  3. There’s a time and a place for everything. This is a day of great optimism for the program and people want to be optimistic and dream of better days ahead. There will be plenty of time to temper expectations. Most of the posters here are perfectly able to understand the difference between expectations and reality. I understand that you see your function here is to lecture speak condescendingly to the unwashed yokels who fail to grasp your perfect insight. And you do a great job with that. Really you do! And I know we can count on you to keep doing so. A shining beacon of knowledge and insight we can all aspire to you are. But for one damn day a little irrational exuberance isn’t gonna hurt anything

  4. He not only got the hire that most everyone wanted, he did it the right way, with class, and with little public drama. This is especially impressive considering Florida, Florida State, Oregon, A&M, and other schools were interested. He pulled the base together, and got a great hire. Well done.

  5. Hopefully this thread doesn't get as long as the last one I started. I don't start threads often, I think I know why now. Scott Frost made mention of the fans in his press conference and related videos he sent out. While there is a marketing aspect to that, and selling tickets and getting donations is part of his job, this was more speaking to the fans as a community. Lots of us have been around boards like this for 20 or more years, we've seen it, we've been a part of it, we know of what I'm eluding. There is a unity now that none of those other coaches had in our online communities. In terms of our site here, it starts with the great moderators here. This was a hectic season and a difficult time to manage a community and I thought they did very well allowing things to happen without over-moderating and creating a bigger mess. We as this online community need to follow Scott's example and become a more unified community. That doesn't mean it's all rah rah, we are emotional people and this is an emotional game. However, when we look at some of the past struggles this program has had coming together, we as fans in an online community play our part, too. These games aren't interesting without fans, after all. I guess what I'm saying is we, too, have a new, fresh opportunity as online connected Husker fans to create unified communities behind a single purpose. As this world becomes more and more connected via the internet, it's not just the fans in the stands that can have an impact on a game. Scott Frost wasn't just talking to his players today, he's talking to you and to me. Let's also do our part to get this thing turned around.

  8. So Nebraska now has the coach with the longest active win streak in D1 football...how does that sound to everyone?

  9. Something that doesn't get said enough, because it seems some people think we are just excited because frost is a great coach. But he is a great fit- maybe the only fit. We fired our history-tradition- and culture when we fired solich and the only person out there that was qualified to coach a P5 program like Nebraska that also had a passion and connection to the old way of doing things was frost. He was the only option to link today to the past that was severed. There may have been good coaches but non other that could unite the past history and family. Without him we would have floundered forever without our culture and identity. So I thank frost for coming home.

  11. Agreed...if the committee was dead set on having a P5 team that lost their last game and did not win the conf title, why not Wisconsin whose only loss was by 6 pts and who won one more game?

  13. Great press conference, I loved that he didn't come in with some speech that he wrote down. He spoke from the heart, knew what to say, and knows the program and the expectations here. It just fits...................god I feel good about the future for once!

  14. What I really like about Frost is he doesn't seem to have coach speak. Guy just talks from the heart.

  15. For anyone still wondering if he feels like he HAS to be here: 1. Read that awesome press release 2. Already hitting the recruiting trail as of last night 3. He's a grown man that can make his own decisions. He chose us, so there you go.

  16. We are definitely getting Dewitt, right?? Don't know if this was shared, but he turned down a job from NASA to stay in the game. Forward thinking guy.

  17. Lots of teams play a legit schedule and also have to get through a CCG. imo the lack of a ccg win should count against them.

  18. I would like to see an 8 team playoff. Give an automatic bid to each Power 5 conference winner, and have a lower level playoff system for the remaining 3 spots. The eligible teams are other Conference winners. No conference championship, no chance at a MNC.

  19. I have said it for quite awhile now that we threw away “Nebraska” when we fired Solich. Bo was suppose to bring that back but never did because he never truly embraced what makes Nebraska special... their fans. This day is the first day I have “felt” Nebraska football since around 2003.

  22. I remember most Nebraska fans I knew feeling like Bill Callahan was at best the 5th choice. But the purpose of this is not to dwell on a bad, utter failure from the past, but to look ahead to the positive future. It gets talked about quite a bit, and some dismiss it as though it doesn't matter, but Nebraska is a very unique place. We're mostly never going to get the truly elite recruits. We'll get our share of great players, but what has always set Nebraska apart was the work ethic and want of the players within the program. In all of our national championship teams, from a recruiting rankings stand-point, Miami, Florida, and Tennessee all were stacked with more highly rated players from top to bottom and across the entire roster. But we beat Miami and beat the stuffing out of Florida and Tennessee because we worked harder and wanted it more. That's what the hiring of Scott Frost means to many (including me) fans of this program. Scott Frost grew up in Nebraska, played here his final three years, and he understands how hard the players have to work to be great. He understands what Nebraska's fans want. He understands the importance of the football team to identity of the state. And finally, he understands what it takes to get to, and play at, an elite level because he's been there and done that both as player and as a coach. In summary, he's a far better fit for this University than the last three of our previous head coaches combined.

  23. Is there a famous incident where Democrats actually booed God? Not saying it didn't happen, just don't recall it. It's a really interesting piece of the debate. I think in almost any application of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, they would adhere closer to Democrats than Republicans. Libertarianism has long been an outpost for marginalized atheists and agnostics. So it's become about abortion. You can be ethically loathsome and personally non-religious, you can turn your back on the poor and sick, you can wage war and embrace firearms, you can invite the money-lender INTO the temple and grant them generous tax benefits, i.e. you can behave in a selfish and un-Christian way all you want, but as long as you're the most likely candidate to overturn Roe vs. Wade, you can scoop up the evangelical Christian vote in America. Not saying you are any of the above GBR. Appreciate your POV. It just spurred the observation.

  24. I can tell you I was more excited/nervous for UCF (Frost) in the final minutes of that game yesterday than I was for any of the huskers games this year. We were definitely lacking in the want to department this year and it directly translated into near apathy catatonia for me. Not sure what the future holds but I am super excited and feel like Nebraska can finally get back to national relevance in the coming years.

  26. Yeah don't kid yourself. Frost acts on emotions he wears his heart on his sleeve but right now he feels like he's on top of the world. He should and does feel excited I believe in finally reaching his goal. I really don't think fans realize how fortunate we are and how much he wants to be here. His loyalty to Big Red is unbreakable. Not to mention he's making big bucks now even though he says it's not about the money that is until it begins to hit your bank account. The most exciting thing to me is this is a hire that the players are rallying behind current and former. That energy and positivity is something that can be built upon. It's a fantastic hire and Nebraska definitely did it the right way this time.

  27. You already got a reply noting the official press release, but I wanted to add that the fact that they're hitting recruits literally tonight tells me there's a fire in Scott and his staff that will take this state by storm. From what we've seen so far since the game today, it sure doesn't feel like the outcome of a guy with cold feet or remorse. HCSF and the staff that he's bringing with him have been doing planning well before this day on levers they needed to pull instantly. I'm wondering if these inside source leaks about cold feet and remorse are some sort of planned lip service from SF to sort of soften the blow to UCF so they wouldn't be as offended with the almost instant gear shifting he's doing. I mean c'mon...he wore a red/white shirt on the way to the game

  29. Would also add that Frost already had his eye on some guys that were P5 quality that he went after and didn't have a prayer of getting at UCF. BUT at NU he has more power to get a shot at some elite talent

  30. There is something to be said about chemistry though. These guys just finished 12-0 together. Frost has zero reason to get rid of any of them, their entire staff should have a standing offer to join him at Nebraska.

  32. I’m with you. That was an extremely strange letter. About the only sentiment I agreed with was wanting to see the nice guy finish first. Unfortunately he didn’t. It seems like the letter writer didn’t enjoy the 80’s or 90’s and that pretty much disqualifies their opinion on anything else IMO. It wasn’t fun knowing you were going to destroy an opponent but it was fun going into numerous games on Riley’s watch knowing the Huskers stood no chance? If that’s fun maybe that person should try elective root canals or recreational colonoscopies. Personally, I haven’t enjoyed Husker football since about November 2001. Yesterday’s announcement and today’s presser are the best I’ve felt about Nebraska in about 16 years. The fact is Riley was a nice guy and he helped address some of the poison from the Pelini years while also introducing a softness never seen in this program in my lifetime. That doesn’t say much IMO about a head football coach at a program like Nebraska. Actually doing something to help make the players successful on the field would be a much more relevant accomplishment. Anybody who enjoyed these last three years is probably going to hate this program going forward because it isn’t going to resemble that. At. All. Thank God.

  34. It has been a long time since I have been this excited about Nebraska Football. I have been through a lot as a Husker fan. I vaguely remember the "Game of the Century" but definitely remember the agony of the '84 Orange Bowl and the ecstasy of the '94 orange Bowl. I believe myself and my group of friends actually cried when TO finally won it. Now is a totally new feeling of joy. I am optimistic and excited for Coach Frost to return us to prominence but realize it will not be instantaneous. I am looking forward to the effort and desire of his teams. I feel like that has been lacking for a long time. HCSF was here the last time we all saw that desire and passion displayed by the team and I think he is the right coach to return us to that point. I am sure many of you will agree that while watching his press conference you felt that lump in your throat and that feeling in your gut we used to get when the Huskers took the field. That feeling, unfortunately has been missing for a long time. This just feels RIGHT!!!

  37. A free country for everyone is not a place where legislation is written for those who can purchase it. Lobbying dollars influence on legislation is in no way fair to an everyday American who isn't going to donate hundreds of thousands or more to our government. This is not democracy when 70% of bills that lobbyists want to go through do, and nearly any bill lobbyists don't want to pass is voted down. Wealth is crafting our legislation, 90% of people aren't appropriately represented. This tax bill is a prime example

  38. He may have had doubts, but I am doubting that he was thinking of calling Moos backing out Saturday Morning. And who would he tell this to? Frost just doesnt seem like the kind to make a rash decision. This had been in the works for weeks, and it was calculated.
