  1. One trophy was invented by a head coach who's a little weird, and no one else was interested. The other was invented by a fan (Faux Pelini) and embraced by the fans, seemingly of both teams. There's a big difference between the 2. Also, Diaco named his trophy after the civil war. *rolls eyes*

  4. From Shatel.... "He wasn’t loud or boisterous or showy. He was a character because of his stories, his way of spreading philosophy on everything. But more than that, it was that boyish twinkle in his eye, that would show up in Omaha each June at just the right time, when we all needed to be reminded why we loved eight teams full of kids running it out, and sunshine and families and autographs and ice cream and a great, great game. Every year at the CWS, I will forever see Garrido’s twinkle. And I will hope that Fullerton comes to Omaha. And I will always root for them to wear blue" You were a legend.

  5. 184--Venz just put a beating on Renda (NCST) and wins 11-3 to lock up AA and avenge a loss from earlier in the year! Venz had an unbelievable 6:40 of riding time. To give you an idea of how dominant that is...matches are 7:00 in length. Nebraska goes 3 for 4 in the blood round to lock up 3 AAs. They'll pick up action tomorrow morning.

  8. A power clean is just an indication that the hips don't descend below the knees during the lift. Full clean (from the floor), hang cleans (high hang, low hang, pocket, etc), and box cleans, among others could all be done "power" or full (squat cleans isn't a term used outside of CrossFit). I wonder if these guys are squatting high bar or low bar in the back squat. If they have been using front squat for a couple of years and switch to a low bar back squat, the numbers they're lifting are going to go up by a very large amount regardless of whether they are actually stronger. I actually think the front squat translates to football better than a back squat. I really can't see a reason to have football players snatch at any significant level of effort. That's an incredibly technical lift for barbell athletes and would have a lot of injury potential for most football players.

  11. I fully expect this board to blow up the first time Frost's offense throws it on 3rd and inches and doesn't get it. They're going to fail plenty, but I can guarantee they'll succeed far more than the last staff.

  14. It wont change. trump-ism is the party's go forward path because its become the party of the intellectually lazy, those living in constant fear and outrage (ie far right media consumers), the bigoted and the christians all lead by the spineless. The chances of any one of those groups collectively going "we didn't sign up for this" is about zero. It was the path before trump ever came into the picture. It's been the path since fox news and talk radio realized they'd make tons of money stirring up outrage of those people and the republicans started having to swing right to the tea party idiots to keep their seats. They did that themselves by their gerrymandering. So I have doubts that it has anything to do with candidate messaging or using common sense, or that they will ever recover from trump (nor should they). It maybe will end when districts are drawn so they don't have to out-far-right each other but they still have their nutty propaganda machine and other right wing billionaire sociopaths that they have to kowtow to. By now though the damage is already done, maybe not right now this year, but as soon as the boomers decline.

  16. We have an thread on Republican utopia and that is serving its purpose well. However, I wanted to create a thread on Conservatism separating it from Republicanism. I believe today's Republican party is doing a poor job of representing conservatism and the conservative movement should never be tied to one party but be trans-party in some respects. The same should be true of liberalism. Specifically, I believe Trump has co-oped conservatism and redefined it into something no longer recognizable. It has become Trumpism in so many ways. I believe it is important that American politics have 3 strong primary policy groups - conservative, moderate, and liberal. It takes all three to make balanced policy. When one dominates something suffers. However when one of these groups gets taken over by a philosophy that it traditionally is not, then the 'leaven in the dough spoils the whole loaf'. That is what I believe has occurred. I personally reject Trumpism or any 'conservative' movement based in the small mindedness of Trump. Since the poll does not have fill in the blank options - Who do you believe can best lead conservatives out of this mess? A current politician in DC, someone outside of DC?? The following Vox article is a good discussion jumping off point. It is written by a left of center writer which is good. Conservatives should be challenged to think and see through the filter of others (liberals should be as well - but that is a different thread someone else can start) I would like to hear what you think what conservatism should look like. I hope the left of center and moderate posters will also jump in and give their opinion and give their opinion on how conservatism can 'correct itself' before it is too late. https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/3/15/17113176/new-york-times-opinion-page-conservatism The real problem with the New York Times op-ed page: it’s not honest about US conservatism

  33. Bolded - they said (paraphrasing) they weren't going to watch much film from before because they didn't want to become biased. But I think they were mostly concerned with becoming biased against players who played badly under the previous staff. With a new staff, everyone should start at the same level and be reassessed. Shaquem Griffin was a 3rd string player when Frost showed up. He was a starter by fall. Starting from scratch shouldn't bother Lindsey. He seems good enough to play a lot. Semi-related - I've met a few people in my life I was just enamored with, like in a hero-worshiping way. One was as an adult. She almost convinced me to join the army after spending 20 minutes with her. Anyhow, I feel like Keith Williams must be like that. The kids obviously LOVE him. It's the only thing that makes sense to me because our new WR coach has good credentials.

  34. BRB - I agree with you on this. This is a political hot potato because politicians on both sides want it to be - the more we can point fingers and not solve the issue or at least properly define as Knapp brings up, we will continue to have this topic as the "mother of all fund raisers" for politicians on both sides. To your point - Pro life people are primarily - "Pro Life" - that is how we have always defined ourselves - however when the other side defines them as 'anti-choice' or anti abortion primarily that distorts our position - Whoever defines the terms (language) controls the discussion. We believe that this other life (the baby in the womb) has rights as does the mother. Pro-lifers want to help the mother also. We by our nature aren't anti mother or anti woman we are pro-life. While pro-choice (or should I say pro-abortion - just to counter the anti-abortion label) side wants to throw up the false argument that Pro-lifers aren't pro life outside of the womb - I got news for them - we can walk and chew gum at the same time. As I have stated many times before, most rank and file pro-lifers are involved in many 'life' issues outside of this issue. I could counter that pro-choice people aren't concerned about childhood development as they are ok wt abortion in some cases to full term. But that too would be a false statement. On both sides there are rank and file people and congressmen who's primary calling is this issue - that is fine. But it is false to claim this for all of the people interested in this topic. Therefore, I reject any suggestion that Pro-lifers are less than pro life on all other life issues or that they are anti-woman. It is a false, lazy argument that won't stand up to facts and its only purpose is to keep the wall dividing us up right.

  36. What is hyperbolic about that post exactly? I mean, it was direct. Liberals are typically in favor of abortion, no? Liberals are also known to be up in arms if a white man chooses to take on characteristics of another culture... Or no? I mean, one of those seems to be a crime against humanity, while the other?.... It was simply an observation on how Liberals typically choose to allocate their sympathy, and energy.
