  1. Please dear god, let's not over analyze another still picture of somebody's body in motion...

  2. There's nothing else going on in the world of sports. There won't be until college football starts. This isn't going away. Another point I saw somewhere else. Meyer is currently on paid administrative leave. Hypothetical scenario: IF Ohio State brings him back and something else vaguely similar to this happens again, Ohio State could be sued for bringing back a guy that enabled this in the past.

  3. I like the idea of it being a women’s sport.

  4. If you have Twitter, I recommend following Michael McCann if you don't already. He's a legal analyst for SI and usually provides well-written articles about the legal implications surrounding different situations in sports. His most recent look at the 'Dear Buckeye Nation' letter, and Zach Smith's radio interview, and their impact on the situation is pretty insightful. Courtney definitely has the law on her side, though. Smith was charged with aggravated battery against a pregnant Courtney in 2009 (though I believe it was dropped) and then the judge of course issued a five year domestic violence protection order against Zach a few weeks ago. Those are not easy to come by and require a 'preponderance' of evidence for a judge to grant them.

  5. So you're trying to tell me that both Urban Meyer and Gene Smith knew/suspected that Zach Smith was beating his wife, but only Gene Smith will be fired? I think that's highly unlikely. Ohio State knows it can find another good coach. It's easier for the, to just make this whole situation go away.

  6. No. We're still talking about Solich and Callahan.

  7. probably helps when you don't have perlman and his creeps looking over your shoulder trying to get you fired over every mistake. (of which there was plenty)

  8. I think this ends with Meyer either resigning or being fired, most likely fired. I don't know if it will be with or without cause, and honestly, that aspect doesn't matter. I mean, it matters to Ohio State and Meyer, but should not matter to anyone else. Meyer knew about the incident in 2009 (Meyer even said he and his wife helped counsel.) He knew about the incident in 2015, that's why he reported it. Can't report something if you don't know that there was some kind of incident or potential incident. Now, here comes the best-case scenario, Meyer knew he had a potential wife beater on staff and continued to employ him for another 2.5 years. Combine all that with texts proving that Smith acknowledged he choked his wife along with Urban's wife receiving texts and pictures of Smith's wife's injuries. Urban almost certainly knew. He's a classic control freak coach in charge of every aspect of his program. So Meyer either definitely knew Smith was beating his wife and kept him on staff, probably knew Smith was beating his wife and kept him on staff, or chose to ignore the problem and evidence and kept a potential wife beater on his staff. In regards to the other people involved, Meyer's wife will be fired and lose her nursing license. Strong chance AD Gene Smith gets fired. Strong chance other coaches and Ohio State officials get fired. This may have gone differently 10-20 years ago. Now though, post Penn State Sandusky and the Ray Rice video, a whole lot of people are going to get fired.

  11. I think that would be a viable option if there was proof or very strong evidence that Urban Meyer didn't know anything. Meyer admitted in his statement that he reported it in 2015, so he at minimum knew it was possible that Zach Smith was abusing his wife. Then he kept him on staff for another three years. Like I said earlier, that's the best-case scenario. Combine that with the 2009 incident and I still think that is a fireable offense. And of course it could be much worse than that depending on what Gene Smith or other Ohio State officials say in the next week or so.

  14. Can we PLEASE STOP talking about Bo Pelini? He's been gone going on 4 years now, it is time to let the last six years die. We have so much positive energy and excitement in the program now; let's focus on the here and now and going forward.

  15. I understand where you're coming from and the point you're trying to make. There will be other stories. Almost certainly though, none will be bigger than this. This is why the story will have legs. Zach Smith and Urban Meyer attempted to shift the blame to AD Gene Smith. The AD will now have to respond in some way now. Regardless of how Gene Smith responds, the Ohio State president/chancellor/dean or whoever will also probably have to respond. They won't all respond the same way. They are going to attempt to save their own skin first. And I'm sure Brett McMurphy has plenty more texts and photos when people try to lie about another aspect of the story. This isn't as bad as Penn State or Baylor scandals, but it's in the same zip code. A lot of people are going to be fired or resign.

  16. I am optimistic listening to the players and seeing how the culture has changed, but I think it's important to keep in mind that this is a team who went 4-8 last year and a team who will be facing slightly tougher opponents (most of them on the road) this year. As much as the coaches/players/some of us might not want to admit, a winning season would be a positive year. It'll probably be more important to focus on "how" we're playing rather than the end result.

  20. A bright spot to the day. "Akinator" is a Kindel game that asks my kids to think of a person/character and answers questions to guess who they are thinking of. Anyway, they have challenges like "top 5 cartoon characters" and the kids have to pick a character answer the yes/no questions to let genie read their mind. They will get points if the character is on the Top 5 list. My "Hawkeye" fan son was playing this game and was asking me things about Scott Frost I thought it was weird. Pretty soon I realize the challenge of the day is "Top 5 Football Coaches", and guess who the game has at #4!!!

  21. Bull on Courtney Smith having to answer more s*** for you, me, or anyone else. Courtney has already provided sufficient evidence in a court of law (it was brought up earlier in this thread she’s got a restraining order), and she’s provided pictures of her husband’s abuse and handiwork, documented texts where the husband cops to choking her, *and* provided a text that clearly shows Urban and his wife were aware. What you posted comes off as a passive-aggressive attempt at victim shaming. I really don’t know if that was your intent, but what reasonably more can she provide?

  29. That’s not correct. Oklahoma would have to get permission from the Oklahoma Legislature to move. And yes, T. Boones Farms Pickens has thrown obscene amounts of money at the legislature in order to try and control it. Same with Texass, BTW. Kansas, OTOH, doesn’t have to get approval (maybe this is who you were thinking of Stumpy?) We know this because Kansas has one foot in the now-defunct Big East Football conference when everything happened in 09-10 and confirmed as such in local media. Now, would Okie Lite block OU from leaving? No, because Oklahoma’s vote prevents the BigXII from re-upping the GOR and expanding. Oklahoma being forced to stay on would just embolden them, and Oklahoma would be able to weather the ensuing fiscal and competitive storm—Okie Lite (and the other also-ran Big XII teams) would not, or they wouldn’t last for very long if they can. We’ve kinda known Oklahoma has been B1G bound for some time now—this news confirms it, and this should put a bounce in the steps of the Nebraska faithful when it comes to B1G expansion and our future in the conference. The question to ask is whether Texas or Kansas will move with them. Smart money is on Kansas, as I don’t think that clusterf*** of an AD at Texas is truly settled, especially since the inmate boosters run that asylum now.

  30. We won 9 games in 2016 and in 2014, and we've had the top recruiting class in our division every year we've been in the Big Ten. We also didn't go 0-12 last year.

  33. That's drinking some kool aid, imo. We're basing this turnaround off a coach. Our offensive line is unproven, little depth at secondary, our dline wasn't good last year, new starting qb, new scheme on both sides of the ball, our conditioning isn't where it needs to be. We had a bad year last year with an easy schedule yet we are going to make this huge jump? Here's a list of coaches who were 6-6 or 7-6 in their first year: Bob stoops started 7-5 Nick Saban was 7-6 in his first year with Alabama Pete Carroll was 6-6 in his first year John McKay was 4-6 in his first year Woody hayes was 4-3 in his first year Jimmy Johnson was 8 5 in his first year at Miami. Jim harbaugh was 4 8 in his first year Bear Bryant was 5 4. Bobby bowden was 5-6 Just because we got a great coach doesn't mean it will translate to 3 or 4 extra wins the first year. The second year is where the jump will be.

  35. I wish I was as optimistic as you, don't get me wrong when it comes to Coach Scott Frost the kool aid is flowing super hard, however I just think with our extremely tough schedule, and the fact that we are installing a brand new, completely different system than what our kids have been in the last 3 years. Now I know Coach Frost is a stud and our kids will be ready, but there is so much to over come in year 1, idk if we can win enough games and not get upset by someone we shouldn't to get into the top 20.

  40. I read it as his lawyer covering his ass for contract law. On one hand it denies OSU any grounds that can be used to fire him without cause he seemingly reported it and it also covers him by saying his answers on B10 media day were a misspoke by him which wouldnt violate his contract. Urban trying to get paid if they give him the boot.

  42. Nate Gerry took a lot of heat from the fans. And it wasn't totally undeserved. But a LOT of people jumped on his comments and took them as a way to point the finger at the players instead of Riley's coaches. And it turns out that Gerry was right, as is alluded to in this tweet and was obvious after last year. In fact, Gerry was falling on his sword (so to speak) in pointing the blame at the players when it would have been rightfully directed at the coaches.
