  1. Please dear god, let's not over analyze another still picture of somebody's body in motion...

  2. There's nothing else going on in the world of sports. There won't be until college football starts. This isn't going away. Another point I saw somewhere else. Meyer is currently on paid administrative leave. Hypothetical scenario: IF Ohio State brings him back and something else vaguely similar to this happens again, Ohio State could be sued for bringing back a guy that enabled this in the past.

  3. I like the idea of it being a women’s sport.

  4. If you have Twitter, I recommend following Michael McCann if you don't already. He's a legal analyst for SI and usually provides well-written articles about the legal implications surrounding different situations in sports. His most recent look at the 'Dear Buckeye Nation' letter, and Zach Smith's radio interview, and their impact on the situation is pretty insightful. Courtney definitely has the law on her side, though. Smith was charged with aggravated battery against a pregnant Courtney in 2009 (though I believe it was dropped) and then the judge of course issued a five year domestic violence protection order against Zach a few weeks ago. Those are not easy to come by and require a 'preponderance' of evidence for a judge to grant them.

  5. So you're trying to tell me that both Urban Meyer and Gene Smith knew/suspected that Zach Smith was beating his wife, but only Gene Smith will be fired? I think that's highly unlikely. Ohio State knows it can find another good coach. It's easier for the, to just make this whole situation go away.

  6. No. We're still talking about Solich and Callahan.

  7. probably helps when you don't have perlman and his creeps looking over your shoulder trying to get you fired over every mistake. (of which there was plenty)

  8. I think this ends with Meyer either resigning or being fired, most likely fired. I don't know if it will be with or without cause, and honestly, that aspect doesn't matter. I mean, it matters to Ohio State and Meyer, but should not matter to anyone else. Meyer knew about the incident in 2009 (Meyer even said he and his wife helped counsel.) He knew about the incident in 2015, that's why he reported it. Can't report something if you don't know that there was some kind of incident or potential incident. Now, here comes the best-case scenario, Meyer knew he had a potential wife beater on staff and continued to employ him for another 2.5 years. Combine all that with texts proving that Smith acknowledged he choked his wife along with Urban's wife receiving texts and pictures of Smith's wife's injuries. Urban almost certainly knew. He's a classic control freak coach in charge of every aspect of his program. So Meyer either definitely knew Smith was beating his wife and kept him on staff, probably knew Smith was beating his wife and kept him on staff, or chose to ignore the problem and evidence and kept a potential wife beater on his staff. In regards to the other people involved, Meyer's wife will be fired and lose her nursing license. Strong chance AD Gene Smith gets fired. Strong chance other coaches and Ohio State officials get fired. This may have gone differently 10-20 years ago. Now though, post Penn State Sandusky and the Ray Rice video, a whole lot of people are going to get fired.

  11. I think that would be a viable option if there was proof or very strong evidence that Urban Meyer didn't know anything. Meyer admitted in his statement that he reported it in 2015, so he at minimum knew it was possible that Zach Smith was abusing his wife. Then he kept him on staff for another three years. Like I said earlier, that's the best-case scenario. Combine that with the 2009 incident and I still think that is a fireable offense. And of course it could be much worse than that depending on what Gene Smith or other Ohio State officials say in the next week or so.

  14. Can we PLEASE STOP talking about Bo Pelini? He's been gone going on 4 years now, it is time to let the last six years die. We have so much positive energy and excitement in the program now; let's focus on the here and now and going forward.

  15. I understand where you're coming from and the point you're trying to make. There will be other stories. Almost certainly though, none will be bigger than this. This is why the story will have legs. Zach Smith and Urban Meyer attempted to shift the blame to AD Gene Smith. The AD will now have to respond in some way now. Regardless of how Gene Smith responds, the Ohio State president/chancellor/dean or whoever will also probably have to respond. They won't all respond the same way. They are going to attempt to save their own skin first. And I'm sure Brett McMurphy has plenty more texts and photos when people try to lie about another aspect of the story. This isn't as bad as Penn State or Baylor scandals, but it's in the same zip code. A lot of people are going to be fired or resign.

  16. I am optimistic listening to the players and seeing how the culture has changed, but I think it's important to keep in mind that this is a team who went 4-8 last year and a team who will be facing slightly tougher opponents (most of them on the road) this year. As much as the coaches/players/some of us might not want to admit, a winning season would be a positive year. It'll probably be more important to focus on "how" we're playing rather than the end result.

  20. A bright spot to the day. "Akinator" is a Kindel game that asks my kids to think of a person/character and answers questions to guess who they are thinking of. Anyway, they have challenges like "top 5 cartoon characters" and the kids have to pick a character answer the yes/no questions to let genie read their mind. They will get points if the character is on the Top 5 list. My "Hawkeye" fan son was playing this game and was asking me things about Scott Frost I thought it was weird. Pretty soon I realize the challenge of the day is "Top 5 Football Coaches", and guess who the game has at #4!!!

  21. Bull on Courtney Smith having to answer more s*** for you, me, or anyone else. Courtney has already provided sufficient evidence in a court of law (it was brought up earlier in this thread she’s got a restraining order), and she’s provided pictures of her husband’s abuse and handiwork, documented texts where the husband cops to choking her, *and* provided a text that clearly shows Urban and his wife were aware. What you posted comes off as a passive-aggressive attempt at victim shaming. I really don’t know if that was your intent, but what reasonably more can she provide?

  23. We'll have to agree to disagree. I don't think they necessarily WANT to get rid of him. I think they realize they have to. We'll see what Gene Smith does. When you look at all the information and combine it with all that Ohio State is dealing with outside of football, like the wrestling scandal and the title IX office all getting fired recently, I don't think the juice is worth the squeeze anymore with Meyer.

  26. Also should've/could've lost a couple more, having just barely squeaked by Arkie State and Purdue, so I'm not sure that's anything other than a moot point. Our conference opponents record from last year is 74-42. With the likely three toughest games on the road. That is a tough schedule regardless of whether we are a good team or not. I think we will learn what this team is capable of at the halfway point - 6 games in we will have a much better understanding of how far along we are imo.

  27. The Oklahoma Legislature has no say when it comes to any of the Universities in the State of Oklahoma. Each of the Universities is governed by their own BOR and only the Academic side reports to the BOR of Higher Learning. The only person that could block the move would be the Governor of Oklahoma. Here is a write up of it. https://www.crimsonandcreammachine.com/2011/8/12/2360002/are-oklahoma-and-oklahoma-state-really-a-package-deal

  29. Nebraska remains Hepburn’s lone offer at this point, but Creighton has been showing heavy interest along with Purdue. Hepburn plans to take an unofficial visit for the Boilermakers’ elite camp later this month. He also will attend the Tim Miles Elite Camp in Lincoln on Sept. 1 and turn that into another unofficial visit, where he will take in the Husker football team’s season opener vs. Akron that night. Hepburn’s schedule will be more open than usual this fall, as he decided in June he would not play football this season for the Thunderbirds this season.

  30. Found this comment by Steve Addizio who was OC for Meyer at Florida. Meyer basically has a snowballs chance in hell of keeping his job at this point. The more stuff like this that comes out about Meyers staff knowing about the situation the more he looks like a scum bag just trying to cover it up. 32. https://apple.news/AczJjSgnuQ8GgC8TUamKkJg ULYSSES, Pa. — The traffic sign that greets visitors on the south side of Ulysses, a tiny town in rural far north-central Pennsylvania, is suitably quaint — a silhouette of a horse-drawn cart reminding drivers that the Amish use the roads, too. But on the north side of town, along the main thoroughfare, is a far different display: a home dedicated to Adolf Hitler, where star-spangled banners and Nazi flags flutter side by side and wooden swastikas stand on poles.

  39. I am surprised that we are a month away from games. I can remember sitting at Dinkers and scarffing down an amazing burger as the news came over the screen that Frost was going to be the new coach. Now here we are and I can't wait. It has been a long time since I have been more excited about the football than the tailgating/bars...but finally I am. Plus it is nice to finally have (almost) all posters realize what a joke of a hire Riley was.

  40. I wandered over to an Ohio State board to see their reaction about Meyer and it’s pretty incredible. Most of them were railing against “fake news,” CNN, ESPN and its liberal slant, all members of the media in general, and the witch hunt against Urban Meyer. It was pretty clear they were fans of Trump and it’s amusing because the GOP is the party that loves to claim they’re all for personal accountability, but apparently it’s always the media’s fault.

  41. Having very far right idiot republicans take up the mantel of Anon and follow someone posting under the moniker 'Q' and not understanding that basically Anon has existed solely to troll stupid people and Q is from the 90s star trek shows and was basically an omnipotent troublemaker that messed with people for his own whims, is idk what, weird to say the least. Sad that their gullibility knows no depths even when it should be transparent that they are being taken for a ride to give some people a big laugh at how stupid they are.
