  1. This Thanksgiving, when our team is (at best) going to be 5-7 but maybe looking at back-to-back 4-8 seasons, I'm finding a lot of things to be thankful for. I'm thankful for the weird, bizarro nature of this season. It'll make us appreciate the good years to come. I'm thankful that Maurice Washington earned his immediate eligibility. He's been a game-changer. Literally! I'm thankful that we have Adrian Martinez for another three years. And for any potential growth he may have. I'm thankful for our Blackshirts. May they ever wreak havoc upon our opponents. I'm thankful for Scott Frost. The bonds of family, the call of coming home, the steady hand. All of it. I think we've got ourselves a good coach again. Someone we can rally around. Win or lose Friday, I'm thankful for having watched this team grow. They've been heartbreaking and heart-stopping, but the progress has been undeniable. The future is bright. Happy Thanksgiving, Husker fans.

  5. No and they never will be. Iowa is what Missouri used to be. A team we played for a trophy noone cared about that just irritates us but is not ever going to be a real threat nationally. Wisconsin is our new Colorado. A rowdy fanbase who's program has tasted some national success but has yet to prove it can take that big step up. We don't have a rival right now. It was starting to be Penn State till the conference screwed up the scheduling system last expansion. My guess is that when expansion happens again in a few years we will see a Rival for Nebraska emerge. But right now it isn't there. FWIW: Northwestern is a more likable ksu. Guess we always have do deal with the purple kitties in some form. Illinois is ISU with less condiments. Purdue is Kansas and they are currently in their Mangino stage until Brohm leaves.

  12. The only thing you're revealing is that Trump is not trustworthy nor prone to tell the truth. About anything. And in most discussions or scenarios surrounding him, the two options are either that he's racist/hateful/x/y/z whatever OR that he's just a bulls#!tting opportunist who will say anything to gain more power. Most of the time it's probably the latter. But that's still....bad. That's still a terrible character trait. All those things are things that Trump has said repeatedly and unabashedly, and said to the effect of whipping up American voters who actually believe in those ideas even if he doesn't. You're smart enough to take them as jokes or as baseless talking points - okay, that's good for you and I wish everyone was so smart. But millions aren't, and Trump is a con man dangling a carrot in front of them. Remember, he loves the uneducated. also re: Trump lying about Democrats wanting an open border, yes he has. There are a very small number of individual Democrats who have talked about the idea (in a future idealistic context) but none that I know of who actively campaign on open borders, and it is not a part of the Democratic platform anywhere. But Trump repeats the lie ad nauseam.

  14. And you didn't find any humor in that? I know I was laughing my a$$ off when I heard it live on the debate stage in 2016. That will probably go down as one of the best comebacks ever in American politics.

  15. That was a pretty easy google search. http://fortune.com/2016/10/10/donald-trump-special-prosecutor-hillary-clinton/ Specifically, in reference to her actions relating to her private email server, he said: “And I’ll tell you what. I didn’t think I’d say this, but I’m going to say it, and I hate to say it. But if I win, I am going to instruct my attorney general to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation, because there has never been so many lies, so much deception. There has never been anything like it, and we’re going to have a special prosecutor.” When Hillary Clinton replied that it was “awfully good that someone with the temperament of Donald Trump is not in charge of the law in our country,” Trump quickly added, “Because you’d be in jail.”

  16. I'm not a 100% Trumper for the record, so I'll call Trump out when I think he says or does something stupid. Both sides are hypocritical and love to point fingers at each other. But the left is far worse IMO. So please try not to associate me with one of those closed minded Trump supporters while I'll try not to label the you as a closed minded Obama supporter. I actually didn't like Trump during the primaries, I was a Marco Rubio supporter. But I have come to grow on him over the last couple years. -The wall? Right when I heard Trump say Mexico would pay for it during the primaries I Iaughed. What incentive does Mexico have to pay for a wall that doesn't benefit them? Through trade? Good luck on that one buddy. Although trade has greatly benefited the U.S. as a whole since Trump took office. -Can you give me an example when Trump was crying because of the DOJ? Critical yes, crying about it no. Name one president that has never been critical of our the three branches of government before. Dont worry I'll wait. And can you tell me when he "promised to lock her up." I assume you heard that from his supporters during one his rallies. -Hey, I didn't have to say it you did. Obama deported more illegal immigrants then Trump did in his first two years so thank-you for being informed. Trump hasn't lied about Democrats wanting an open border. The democratic party has shifted significantly when it comes to illegal immigration and now you actually have politicians campaigning on it. You're exactly right when it comes to NATO, the U.S. is the only reason why NATO still exists and only because of the U.S. taxpayers dime. We foot the bill while all these other countries pay almost nothing to benefit from it. I don't have a problem with Trump putting pressure on them to start paying up. Regarding waterboarding, it's pretty irrelevant to today's political climate so I wont waste my time trying to discuss that topic with Landloard or anyone else right now. If it's that relevant then start a thread.

  24. It is completely disingenuous to consider Agriculture a major part of the economy. Agriculture accounts for less than 2% of GDP. Less than 2%. You could make the argument that when you include food and related industries it takes you to a whooping 5%, but even then that is minuscule in comparison to other sources of GDP. The main source is consumer spending (~80% contribution to GDP). Consumer confidence just peaked in September, notching an 18 year high. October numbers looked good and preliminary, key word on preliminary, figures for November fell less than expected. Consumer spending was also up in October. This bodes quite well for a strong holiday season where names like TGT will more than likely have strong Q4 earnings. Im up for wagering a friendly bet on the name, if you are so willing. I didn't ignore anything with regards to your comment about company reports, in fact I provided a pretty solid retort, with statistics to back it up. To be honest, I think that is another disingenuous argument, throwing out that some companies have had bad reports? What reports are you even talking about? Quarterly earnings? Well, yeah, every single quarter some companies miss expectations, that's the nature of this game. However, I'd like to reiterate that 80% of companies beat estimates; that figure is well above the 5 year trend. Even more impressive is the fact that companies surprised on the upside by nearly 7%, once again above the 5- and 10-year average. Sales growth at close to 10% y-o-y, which once again would beat expectations and take us to levels last seen in 2010, which would be higher given the fact we were just coming out of a recession. As for crashing the markets, we've still only had 3 down months this year and are flat for the year. Volatility was also extremely low during the summer was quite low while Europe was trying to figure their S out, granted it has picked up recently. Trade wars are what people clamor to, I get it. It is an easy excuse for corporations to throw out there when they miss earnings. Its the same way when the dollar rises compared to other currencies, they will just blame a stronger USD for poor performance even if they're hedged back against it. I understand what you were refuting and I'd agree that mid-term's aren't the culprit for market declines. I just disagree with the rationale for how you got there! Like I said, would love for Trump to stay of twitter, let the fed do its job and quit giving Saudi's the reach around.

  26. As I've said before, he will not end up at Kentucky... L'ville if they an grab Brohm and NU are my bets to get him.. Frost knows the recruting life and when it comes to a big time player sometimes adults pressure kids into making decisions which only confuses these 17-18 yr olds. Wandale wanted to be N, Frost wanted Wandale. If he is going to be in home I believe it's to clear up any miss understandings that may have occurred, re-establish his family's belief that N is the best place for Wandale's future and truly see where we stand with him. Idk how much football you guys watch, but as a coach I watch a ton and you can see that Kentucky is not a good fit for him. Sure they're havnig a good season now but that offense is anemic. They also will lose 14-16 starters to graduation or the draft. Plus, after seeing us without spielman last week Frost knows we need another playmaker on the outside once Morgan is gone.

  30. Earlier in the year a few of the Blackshirts from the 1990s and 2000s were discussing the defense and pointing out how "#5" (they wouldn't call him out by name) was often out of position, keying on the wrong read, etc. That tune has changed in the second half of the season, and it's no wonder why. Young is second on the team in passes defensed. (Bootle) He's second on the team in total tackles. (Barry) He's third on the team in solo tackles. (Barry/Williams) He's second on the team in interceptions. (Reed/Williams/Jackson) (this is a little misleading - he only has one, but it was in the second half of the season) He'll finish the season with career highs in Solo and Total tackles, and needs one TFL to tie his career best. MOST of that has come in the second half, and Young filling his role on the defense has helped shore up a leaky spot. It's really impressive when you consider he's on his third defensive coordinator in four years. He's just kept grinding, and he appears to be having a lot more fun now. Super happy for him.

  31. Ya, it's definitely not as enticing as Nebraska was for Frost. With Nebraska he was pissed off at the state of things and wanted to come save the day. Alabama doesn't need saving.

  32. He’s moved his entire family to Clemson, built a home that he’ll probably bever he able to sell, it’s a legit mansion, and his boys are now playing for Clemson. Plus, he has it made. Who would want to be the next guy after Saban? He’s not dumb. It wouldn’t surprise me if he did go, but it def wouldn’t it he didn’t either...

  33. I don't get the obsession with points per play. Three and out, 3 and out, 3 and out, 80 yard TD grades the same as a single, 10 play TD drive. I greatly prefer the former. Points per possession is what matters, not points per play.

  34. We're still new to the conference and we haven't been relevant for awhile. So no rivalry is going to feel organic or worn in, but I don't see why we can't declare one. An irrational dislike is a good place to start. But for a rivalry to work, the rival has to feel the same way. Iowa is the closest thing we have at the moment.

  36. I have no attachment to any of the programs you mentioned so I answered accordingly. Would it matter to you if some Northwestern fan thinks NU and Iowa are rivals? The answers I gave you also jived with what I had written about Nebraska and Oklahoma. Elite programs are just not going to have lots of rivals because a rival is going to be having comparable success and taking something meaningful from you on a regular basis to earn that level of recognition. p.s. - I don't think there are rules as to how many rivals a team has but I think a rivalry should be allowed to develop naturally and feel that calling any heated series a rivalry cheats the meaning of the term. Having one rival is pretty common besides. Look at Celtic and Rangers, Barcelona and Real Madrid, River Plate and Boca Juniors, Chivas and America, etc. To be fair, Chivas have a local rivalry/clasico with Atlas but the super clasico is with America. Liverpool might call Manchester United their rival but that doesn't mean the derby with Everton isn't special. I don't know that American football has the same kind of history, though, partly because there's not enough play outside the conferences.

  37. Funny thing is, typical Nebraska fan only wants to claim OU as a meaningful rival. But OU fan will tell you their biggest rival is Texas and it's been that way for a long time. I figure people can consider any team they want a rival. Makes sense that people living adjacent to or in Iowa might have stronger feelings about it. Just like I do living in Colorado. I resisted it and it annoyed me....until they beat us 3 times in a row, then it was on. Anybody denying a past rivalry with CU just doesn't understand our history with them.

  38. Let's say we beat Iowa. I think the best thing to do in that case is to just announce that we're going to a bowl. Pick one, like the Heart of Dallas Bowl or the San Francisco Bowl. "Nebraska is happy to accept a bid to this bowl. We hope to represent our conference well." There would be some confusion, and some conflicting information out there, but if we stuck with that story, started practicing, booked hotels and got ourselves to the game, maybe they'd just let us play. It's worth a shot.

  41. While I agree not having Spielman hurt, don’t think it was quite as big a factor has some think. AM really struggled yesterday (I think the conditions had a huge impact on him) and if you can’t get him the ball he can’t make plays. And with MSU’s lateral speed I don’t jet sweeps were going to get much. It obviously hurts, it has to, to have one of your best players out anytime. But I think yesterday having it be a receiver wasn’t quite as impactful. May be completely wrong too, just how I saw it. It was a game that was going to won or lost mainly by the “big uglies” up front on both sides.

  42. Agree with @VectorVictor. Purdue was paying Brohm ~$4mm/year. You can get yourself a darn good coach for that level of money. There are some really good Group of 5 coaches out there right now. Off the top of my head here are probably going to be the P5 jobs that will come open (in no particular order). Colorado USC Kansas Purdue Rutgers UNC K State Maryland You figure CU will go with a guy like Jim Leavitt or Eric Bieniemy. Neal Brown is gonna get snatched up for sure (would love/hate to see Purdue or Maryland hire him). A guy like Seth Littrell at UNT makes sense for a school like Kansas. Although, it's Kansas so they'll screw it up and hire Les Miles. I'd like to see K State hire BB as I loathe K State and BB so the two of them together would essentially make them a Bond villain. BB is a heckuva coach and his physical style of play matches up with what Snyder tries to do. Candle from Toledo is gonna get a call from someone. If I were him, I'd take the UNC gig but not sure I'd want any part of the Rutgers job. Man...that job is hard. As for USC...man I don't know. I hope USC really tries to go out of the box again like they did with Carroll but I fear they'll end up hiring Jeff Fisher/Jack Del Rio which to me are 'meh' hires. USC totally screwed the pooch because they could've had Chris Peterson but decided not to hire him because they thought Sarkisian (!!!) was the better play. As a closet UW fan, I'm eternally grateful. I'm also curious where Matt Wells from Utah State ends up.
