  3. The SOTU will also contain a s#!tload of outright lies, but the base bought into them ages ago and will consider any follow-up fact-checking to be sour grapes nitpicking.

  8. The American Revolution was extremely radical from the European point of view, including acts of terrorism. Interestingly enough, giving the vote to non-landholders and women, much less abolishing slavery, was a little too radical for most of our revolutionary forefathers.

  9. Didn’t want to make a new topic. But I wanted to post about the “You just hate Trump” crowd. This argument gets used a lot by his defenders, including in this forum. Although some of those claim to not like him. It’s amazing how many people don’t like him but defend him. Their sentiment is that because there are a lot of criticisms of Trump, it must be because people hate him. And this is used as an attempt to nullify all arguments against his fitness to be president. Sarah Sanders: This has to be the s#!ttiest and dumbest defense of a politician I’ve heard on my lifetime. People are critical of Trump more often than of any previous presidents because he does and says more things that are worthy of criticism than any other president before him. People are trying to treat it like it all started with people hating him, as if nothing Trump does or says actually causes the criticism. It’s idiotic. It’s also crazy the things people will do to shut their brains off so they can continue supporting him.

  10. Frankly as an employee I'd love to not have it tied to a specific workplace, just like I'd love to not have my 401k account tied to a specific workplace. I am glad for the benefits because its how things are done now, but I'd be just as happy having my salary bumped up to match the cost of those benefits and paying taxes for healthcare and not having to deal with insurance companies. I'm not naive enough to think employers enjoy dealing with it, but it does tie people to jobs when they might otherwise move to better jobs, because it's a gamble to lose coverage. The fact that you don't do it for that reason doesn't mean it doesn't have that effect.

  11. Here's my bet: Trump has one of his less stupid people draft a serviceable state-of-the-union address that uses Trump's historically low bar to make him sound Presidential. Fox will hail the speech, the Democratic response will be partisan boilerplate, and the onus of unity will be dropped on the Democrats. Mainstream media will be denied their "gotcha" moment, and will be forced to replay Trump's coherently crafted plea for the country to work together to solve problems we can all agree on. This "new dawn" for Trump will last perhaps as long as 3 am. Thursday morning, when the President tosses an off-message Tweet baiting an adversary.

  12. Because the criticism is so disproportionate. What I mean is just the opposite of what you suggest. It is so easy for people to express outrage over a photo of someone in blackface. It unites Democrats, Republicans, and all of social media. And we congratulate ourselves that we've come so far since.....1984 I guess. It's much harder to pay attention to the gutting of the presumably bedrock Voting Rights Act, or state gerrymandering designed to render the black vote meaningless. That's not a symbolic mistake by a 25 year old with zero influence. It's a galling show of pure racism by elected officials who see no reason to apologize.

  14. I think we should probably drop all ties with the Saudies. Time and time again they have f#&%ed us over. This is enough. Apparently we think they are some stabilizing force in the middle East, but they are waginig one of the worst wars in recent memory that some argue is bordering on genocide. They continually violate human rights on every level, have funded terrorism against the US, and yet we look away. Enough is enough.

  18. Since I'm here in Tulsa, I have limited opportunities. But of the games I made down here - T-Mart's 2010 "I can pass too" game at Okla State. It was an amazing, high scoring game in which Taylor amazed everyone with his passing besides his running. We also had the infamous hit on the kickoff were one of our players literally knocked out an OSU player. The game featured our great DBs against OK State high powered receiving group - I believe it was Blackmon vs Prince. Niles Paul had a 100 yard kick off return. Taylor had 323 yards passing and Weeden wt OSU had 283. TM also had 112 yards rushing - with Helu (42) and Burkhead (41)providing a few additional yards and Alex Henery even chipped in wt a fake kick run of 27 yards . It was a high flying game. Our Okla Cornhusker club had a huge tail gate party at the Stillwater H.S. before the game https://dataomaha.com/huskers/history/game/2010-10-23-oklahoma-state

  19. Love this topic! Home Game: I think that Texas game, the Red Out game. I remember we left Omaha late, really late...like 90 minutes before the game. We get to Lincoln and what do you know...there is a spot at a closed up repair shop...we slide in and park for free. As we start walking towards the bars a buddy calls "Hey, I have two extra champions passes, want them?" Heck yeah! At Champions we party and decide to eat upstairs. After we are done eating I use the restroom and come back out, my buddy is waiting by the elevator so I meet up with him and we leave the dining area. I go "That was good food" and he replies "I know, I can't believe it is free!" and I look at him and say "It isn't free, I thought you paid?" he laughed and said "No, I just got up and left, I thought it was free" We go party at Barry's and then hit O street. We get to Iggy's and party there, my buddy hits the bathroom and comes back telling me how he tripped and fell, landing right on his cheekbone and smashed his shades. We drink more and later I see him checking ID's at the door, pretending like he worked there. He starts to get kicked out by the real bouncer and we finally leave...but we hit up Amigos for the road. Road game...I will have to think about it.

  20. I'm not sure I understand why Barry's called the police - did they think they were enabling binge drinking or something by saying 'give us $53 bucks and we'll just keep bringing the drinks?' Either way, Barry's is one of the trash bars of choice for under age college students and people with low self esteem. When I lived in Lincoln, I stopped going there after my early 20's. They've got massive cajones for taking shots at other bars, especially with their well-documented history of serving minors and violating other laws.

  21. Pelini: "If they want to fire me, go ahead." Unless we're talking about a different situation, that wasn't someone trolling in the media. That was literally Bo - a mixture of his hot-headedness and stubbornness.

  22. Harbaugh at it again telling a kid a few days before signing day that he doesn't have room. I guess his first clue should have been that he wasn't allowed to sign in December. And according to 247, his only D1 scholly offer was Michigan.

  23. You can’t fire a bad owner. It’s death of a franchise. They gave 16 years to a guy that spent at least half of that on the hot seat. That’s job security, I suppose, but it’s also not a franchise trying to win. They’re one of the least valuable franchises in the NFL. They’ve drafted very poorly in recent years, in part because all of their mediocre seasons have resulted in poor draft position. And because they just suck at drafting. No QB of the future. No real player assets. Their best offensive players are injured and over 30. Everyone wants the next McVay, but they went out and built a team for him. Cincinnati isn’t going to, they don’t care about winning. It’s definitely not a desirable first head coaching job. It’s a career killer.

  26. With the back channels these coaches, and AD's have access too, I don't think it's unrealistic at all. And if you don't think that you've got a candidate that can at least accomplish what the current guy is (which was pretty good compared to what came after) than don't fire the guy who is winning 70% of his games.

  28. That's just it, Eichorst was hired to fire Bo Pelini. The idiot's who hired him didn't think any further than that. They just assumed he would hire another guy who could win 9 or 10 or maybe more with some luck. But as I've been trying to explain elsewhere, the AD job of hiring coaches isn't as easy as some people think. Eichorst wanted Bielma and almost had him. He got played in the end. So, with no backup choice in mind he found Mike Riley. A better AD would have established a better relationship with the current coach from the get go and the whole mess maybe never happens. But Bo had been souring people on his attitude, you can't act like Nick Saban and get blown out like Mike Riley it turns out.

  29. I’ve never liked the dual role QB/OC coach that so many teams, including Pelini and Riley, use. Tell a non-football viewer that a team has a dedicated TE or Special Teams coach but not a dedicated QB coach and their head nearly explodes. It just makes no sense. In my opinion, it’s always been more about control (and sometimes ego) than efficacy. The QB is the most important offensive piece so they feel they must be their coach. When Frost was put in this position at Oregon, he didn’t pretend that having played the position meant he was qualified to teach the nuanced fundamentals of the position. So he sought the advice of someone who did, and when given the chance to hire that expert he did. It’s probably been the biggest single factor in Frost’s success.

  30. I've always felt Bo Pelini was an objectively "good" coach. Winning nine games every year, consistently recruiting in the area of the top 25, helping to cultivate Team Jack, graduating players at a strong clip, etc., are all things that matter and, again, should be considered objectively "good." But, I always go back to a few of the tangible things that made his "good" not "good enough:" - He and his staff whiffed in some key developmental and recruiting areas time and again (perhaps most notable was the 2010 defensive line recruits, a group that didn't pan out overall and cost Pelini well into the early B1G years). - they couldn't cultivate an elite talent at the QB position (Martinez had elite flashes but was plagued by turnovers, and TA was really good but not great) - was out-coached more often than not in some of the biggest games with the biggest implications - a poor and angry attitude (it wouldn't have mattered as much if he was an elite winner like Saban, but he wasn't) There are other negatives as well as other things he did really well. But, again, it all goes back to just being objectively "good," and not "good enough."

  31. The guys who are leaving (that have a new rating) are all lower-rated now than when they came out of high school. Gebbia is a mid-three-star. Lindsey is a upper-mid-three-star. Avery Roberts is an upper-mid-three-star. All took a significant down-grade. The one guy the Huskers are getting - Daniels - is now rated higher than when he came out of high school. Four-star both times but up a couple notches now.

  34. I think that we need to hold our Senators and Congressional reps to a higher standard. I think we too often look to the Presidency as the defining factor for whatever policies we want to see implemented, and pay too little attention to the people that directly represent us. Most folks have no idea who represents them. If Senators and Congressional reps are held to a higher standard, then I think it would take some of the burden off of finding a perfectly pure candidate for President. If we want XYZ policy put into law, do so en masse with your reps, and not with a moon shot herculean effort by one person.

  35. 2009 Oklahoma game. Had a blast and got revenge from the year before. Met some great people at a tailgate and got to show my wife what a college football game was like. She loved it. I remembet the game being so loud and it was awesome how the defense dominated the game. Forced like 5 tunrovers. Worst 2008 at mizzou Just awful. Got waxed and had to be around the worst fans on college.

  37. That wasn’t what I was arguing. I’m not arguing there aren’t awful Republican policies. I’m arguing the Democrats don’t go around accusing Republicans of having radical ideas. “Radical” is largely used to describe ideas that haven’t been implemented, and used as a scare tactic.

  41. Well on a positive this will leave us with a few scholarships to go get some ,hopefully, instant impacts on the grad transfer market. Also, if I am being completely honest, I am glad he went to Kansas. Like a few others mentioned I think this kid either needed to stay home or go somewhere where he already has a solid relationship. I’ll be keeping an eye on how Kansas does under Les.
