  2. The sexual encounter happened in 2016. There was a video taken. The video was distributed at the school of the girl and the 2 guys in the video. One of the people that received the video in 2016 was Maurice Washington as he went to that school as well. One of the males in the video was charged and received probation for distribution of the video. Not for an assault. The 3 in the video were expelled from the school. The reason why the girl was expelled was because at the time, it was ASSUMED it was consensual because no one said otherwise. The students that received the video were directed to delete it. Maurice Washington, it appears, did not do that. FAST FORWARD to 2018. Girl reaches out to Mo to say congrats. They start talking and he wants a sexual relationship with her. When she declines, he gets mad. She deletes him from social media. He sends her the video. These are her, and the police reports words. The video is intercepted by her mother. They call the police and here we are. She says she didn't initially call it non-consensual, or assault, or rape, because she felt ashamed. She now says that it was assault. Believe her or don't. NO ONE HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH AN ASSAULT AND THERE HAS BEEN NO EVIDENCE TO PROVE THAT IT WAS AN ASSAULT. The police were saying Mo COULD face charges related to an assault because he was refusing to speak to police so they had no idea what he knew or didn't know at the time the video was taken. I think it is safe for us as Husker fans to not get wrapped up in the assault piece of this. There is such a low chance that Mo will face any charges relating to an assault. Let's focus on the distribution part. That is where he is going to get in trouble if he in fact gets in trouble.

  4. Kill is mad about Fleck coming in and talking about how he had to fix a broken culture? Uhh, Jerry, PJ came in following a sexual assault scandal, ten player suspensions, and a player boycott. You can play the blame game all you want, but that whole ordeal reflected poorly on the program any way you slice it, and Fleck definitely had to address the situation in some way.

  8. This whole thread is a shining example of just how damn judgemental and dishonest people can be. So many are ready to throw a barely adult kid under the bus without knowing ANY details whatsoever because the in thing to do is believe every accusation these days, screw the accused they may or may not be wrong but I have a reputation as a good person to maintain! A term I heard a while back from a wise man on here, "message board honest". I've tried being blatantly honest on here for a while and it's damaged my reputation quite a bit but I'm honestly getting more and more okay with it because I wish more people would do the same, drop the pious attitudes and stop pretending like this EXACT situation couldn't happen to any one of us or someone we care about. Then MAGICALLY we would want patience and understanding from those judging us. Or maybe we need the undercover OU fan to roll back in here and call us all pieces of crap again.

  10. My mistake. I assumed since everyone, including news sources, were now referring to it as assault that obviously somebody would’ve been charged with assault. I also thought that somebody (you IIRC) told me probation was the punishment one of the boys received for the assault. Mistakenly I assumed they found no evidence of assault but gave him the lighter punishment for distributing the video. My bad. Based on the revelation that California considers 15 year olds having consensual sex as assault, just as they would a rape victim being assaulted. The state of California lumps them together. That was my intent. Yes, technically it is porn. But if it was consensual and the people involved were all okay with it......until it got out to the public. The wording of the charges against Mo just strikes me as unnecessarily inflammatory. It feels almost as if Mo is being railroaded on many fronts. The title of the charges. The articles I’ve seen with pictures show Mo in his Husker uniform and the little innocent victim kneeling down with her cute little puppy wearing a birthday hat. The tone and phrasing of the NBC Bay Area article.....Something doesn’t feel right about referring to her as a victim of sexual assault before anyone is actually charged with sexual assault. It’s not like they don’t know who to charge. The least they could do is throw an “alleged” in there. Feels like an intentional attempt to make him look as guilty as possible and to present her as completely innocent and as a legitimate victim with no proof and no charges filed.

  13. I read an article (trying to find it now) but it said something to the effect of, if Barr redacts significant parts of the report or doesn't make it public, members of Congress can subpoena Mueller and Mueller could just read the report in its' entirety, thus making it public in an even more explicit manner. Edit: FWIW https://www.palmerreport.com/analysis/no-prevent-mueller-barr-trump-report/15346/ "Various House Democrats have already said that if Robert Mueller’s report isn’t made public, they’ll simply subpoena him to testify, and then they’ll essentially have him read his report into the record. This can all be done in front of live television cameras, with the exception of any classified aspects, so it could end up being even more devastating to Trump if Barr does try to suppress Mueller’s report."

  14. Maybe I worded that wrong, by less I mean efficiently. I remember years ago seeing where our government paid x100 for the cost of a hammer etc. I want to get rid of wasteful spending that does zilch. I think I mentioned in a different thread but we have no need to spend millions of dollars researching pigeons sex habits on cocaine.

  15. You know RD - this spending perspective is different than my normal thinking on the subject. I think the balancing act wt the MMT is finding the right ratio between debt and GDP. Of course I'd all gung ho on the spending programs if we knew it would never come back and bite us - who doesn't want all of the things this current batch of Dems want to push if we know that it won't bite us when the economy stalls and GDP drops - which would blow up the ratio. So to make the ratio work we have to have a very healthy and strong free enterprise/business environment that keeps producing - making the GDP large enough to offset the debt affect. So those on the left need strong businesses to make their spending plans become reality and they should know therefore that they cannot tax business to death.

  18. I have many thoughts. Most of them arent good. I am not a PJ Fleck fan. He is a walking sound byte. I dont think he is a bad coach but he is very gimmicky and I think he relies on that. While I think he means what he says I dont know if he truly can connect with people who see past his sayings. Jerry Kill was creating something special with the Gophers and his health took that away.. but lets not kid ourselves, things were already starting to go poorly between Kill and the UofM administration. He didnt feel like he had the support he needed and while he couldnt go on because of health he also didnt leave on the greatest terms. He left in a way that they had no choice but to go with Tracy Claeys. Claeys wasnt given a super fair shake but the way he handled the sex assault probably made it a worthy decision to move on. The major issue Claeys and Kill had was they were looking for a way out. The new AD wanted his own guy and I think they were looking for a reason to can Claeys. All of this is part of the reason Kill has a bone to pick. Now, on to PJ. I think PJ holds guys accountable. I have mentioned in the past he is a bit like Frost in that sense but where he loses me is how fake/gimmicky he comes off. I also dont think he is that great of a coach. He reminds me a bit of Tim Miles but less goofy/fun. When PJ came in. He TRASHED the old team. Similar to what Frost did. He questioned work ethic, and how they basically didnt go to class. No idea if that was true but I can understand why Kill was offended. PJ was giving himself a bit of an out and trying to take pressure off himself if it didnt work for the first 2-3 years. His big thing now is that they are SOOO young because he had to hit reset because all the previous guys didnt fit his culture. PJ is a salesman. He is going to spin things to make himself look better. My guess is if he has any success at MN, he will leave for a bigger job. In this case, I think Kill should probably just move on but I dont think he is all that far off. PJ strikes me as a guy who will stab you in the back to further himself, but will put a cute spin on it.

  19. It's a nice notion, but government finances is not at all the same as a person's. Unless that person controls their own currency, can force others to use that currency (e.g. collect taxes in that currency), can carry generational debts, can issue their own bonds, etc. And spending less isn't always fiscally responsible. Investments like infrastructure and education produce more revenue than they spent.

  24. I don't think so. Miles has five years of being within one loss of the school record for losses. His two "good" years included a total combined zero post-season wins. We are likely to lose 17 games this year and be under .500. We are bringing back very few legit contributors regardless of who is hired. A coaching change will not set us back any further than we are already set back. Would a "big time" hire be able to show quick improvements? I would think so. But an average hire really doesn't have anywhere to set the program back. I would think an average hire would be able to have a .500 record sooner than five years.

  27. We don't know why she's claiming assault. All we know is she claimed assault and the screwy Cali law that says a 15 yo can't give consent to another 15 yo allows that, among other possible reasons. I may be wrong but since one of the alleged assaulters (is that a word?) only got probation for the assault charge, I'm coming to the conclusion that those who determined probation was a just punishment for the "crime" didn't think it was any kind of real sexual assault so they gave him the lightest possible sentence based on that technicality in the law. It would be really beneficial if they wouldn't lump such diverse possibilities as the same sexual assault charge. It feels like the same issue is allowing them to call what MW allegedly did as child porn or revenge porn. I don't think the word "porn" belongs in any possibility of what MW may have done. Revenge Harassment (better) but child porn is just wrong imo considering they are effectively the same age and dated each other. To be honest, it just seems like it was consensual and not a thing until the video got out and her parents saw it. Then she claims it was assault (or maybe her parents claimed it was assault based on the technicality in the law). And now they are doing the same thing with these ancillary changes against MW. Maybe I'm too used to seeing parents who cannot accept certain realities about their own children. I've seen so much of that it likely is preventing me from interpreting this any other way.

  32. Reports are the staff is still planning on 22-25 at this point. Numbers for each position are just my guess right now based on need and current roster, though Schaefer just put out some numbers and they pretty much agree. We'll get a better idea what the staff is looking for in the coming months. Just a reminder that my criteria for this list is to try to keep it to guys who seem to be legitimately interested in Nebraska, which in my book mainly means setting up a visit or having us in their Top 5/10/whatever list. There are a ton of guys who say they're interested who never end up even visiting. So the list is pretty small right now but there are a few guys who have put out a favorites list and we'll start to see more as guys visit this spring. I'm sure I've missed a few so let me know if you notice someone. 35. The season is already underway with the Husker's sporting a 7-2 record after two weekends. Tristen Edwards and Alyvia Simmons are back and they were the top 2 hitters by average on the team last year. Edwards also led the team in home runs and slugging percentage and was 1st team All-B1G. Of course Kaylan Jablonski is gone, and she was 2nd on the team in home runs and slugging percentage. Additionally, she was by far the best pitcher on the staff. Simmons and Jablonski were 2nd team All-B1G. Edwards has started out well this season and has B1G player of the week and National player of the week recognition already under her belt. Of the newcomers, Wallace and Walljasper appear to be the headliners. Walljasper (pitcher) was named California POY small school division, and Wallace (pitcher/infielder) was named Nebraska Gatorade's POY. Walljasper has started out hot at the plate AND on the mound and has a B1G freshman of the week award already. From a pitching perspective, losing Jablonski was a noticeable hit. She was 21-14 winning about two-thirds of the teams 31 victories. She also had 6 saves. The 2nd best pitcher on the staff was Olivia Ferrel who was 9-8 with an ERA over 4, as a freshman. The big disappointment from the pitching side was the lack of production from Regan Mergele. She was the huge get of the 2017 recruiting cycle coming from Butler County Juco having won a national championship her sophomore year and having compiled a 53-3 record with a 1.15 ERA in her two years there. In her junior year at Nebraska, she was nearly invisible with a 1-1 record and a nearly 5 ERA in 6 starts. I don't know if it was an injury problem or if the stage is "too big," but I expected a better transition after being so dominant at the Juco level. This year, Walljasper and Wallace have already been inserted into the rotation with mixed but mostly positive results. Walljasper is 2-0 with an ERA under 2. Wallace is also 2-0 but got abused in a no decision and currently has an ERA over 5. Ferrel got absolutely lit on an outing against Texas Tech (0 outs, 7 earned runs), but followed that up with a decent outing last weekend against Pitt. The good news is that after taking a loss in relief in the first weekend, Mergele came back with a complete game shutout of NC State with 9 strikeouts and only 3 walks. She (Mergele) currently has an ERA hovering around 1 after 18 innings pitched with 27 strikeouts against only 9 walks. Right now it appears to be pitching by committee with a young staff that includes 2 freshman and a sophomore. It will be interesting on how much of a load Mergele takes if she continues to pitch well. I couldn't find a pre-season poll for the B1G, but initially it appeared that Michigan & Minnesota were the class of the league, followed by Northwestern and Ohio State, with Wisconsin and Nebraska competing for NCAA tournament berths. However, after two weekends, Illinois and Indiana have also inserted themselves as contenders in the conference. Last year, the team started out pretty well in non-conference by beating a few teams ranked in the top 25. Of course they did get drilled by the big dogs (Washington and Oklahoma) but that was to be expected. They started out the B1G season by keeping their heads above water in the first half of conference play (8-5), but then they lost 8 straight before winning the final regular season game. They followed up a 9-13 conference season with a first round loss in the conference tournament. And this resulted in being shut out of the NCAA tournament for the 2nd straight year. Revelle is a HOF coach. She has guided the team to the NCAA's in 20 of 26 years. However, two of the six years her teams haven't made it.....have been the last two. Coach Sippel is the pitching coach and has averaged an All Conference performer per year at that position. She has actually been at Nebraska longer than Coach Revelle. The question might be are they losing their edge as age creeps up on them. Or are the past two years the exception. On most days, this team will score on the plus side of 4 runs. The big unknown is the pitching. It is probably too much too ask Walljasper and Wallace to come in and carry the group. Ferrel needs to continue to improve and lower her ERA down in the low 3s. Mergele needs to "obtain, retain, and sustain" the form that made her an imposing Juco pitcher. Otherwise, it looks like they're missing the NCAAs for a third straight year.

  41. The people who claim national debt is bad and the people who claim it's no big deal are both wrong. Reality is somewhere in the middle. Some debt isn't a problem and it can be used to stimulate parts of the economy. However, too much can drag down the economy and take away the government's ability to do what it wants to do. For instance, currently in the budget we will pay $364 billion in just interest. That's tax payer's money, going to nothing but investors that have purchased our debt....much of which is held by foreign governments. Imagine the infrastructure we could build or the healthcare reform we could do with that? The feds have raised interest rates and it's been a major topic in economic circles. However, what they have done is pittance compared to what they may have to do if inflation takes off. THAT will have a bad affect on how much interest we are paying on this debt...which will take away even more from the government doing other things.

  43. She seems to all but close into the answer before the article finishes. Have more than 100% debt to GDP is the cliff most economists note as the point to avoid. Inflation is targeted by the government to avoid real buying power from being lost all at once, which hurts the poor and middle class the most. They have less assets invested that retain value in relation to inflation. Raises tend to be slow to inflation and a dollar earned today on buys $0.99 tomorrow and $.90 next year.
