  3. I would have thought the people of California, who constantly complain about an incarceration crisis, would not look to destroy a long man's life over a text. What he did was gross, but this is such an overreach.

  4. Tough loss for the Mavs, but a very successful season. Largest crowd in history, most D1 conference and total wins. Made the conference title game 2 out of 4 eligible years. People have figured out they play a fun game, season tickets cost like 10 bucks a game and parking is free. Program is trending up and if I am Summit league level player I would want to play at Baxter and live in Omaha over all those Dakota schools. Proud Alum tonight, lets make the tourney next year.

  5. I had not seen that before. Pretty straight forward. the WE ARE THE GREATEST presents a false patriotism that doesn't recognizes our shortcomings which in turns prevents us from overcoming those shortcomings. As noted the first step to solve a problem is to acknowledge it exists. Jeff Daniels is pretty amazing actor. From the guy who could play a lead role in Dumb and Dumber one year to a lead role in the mega movie Gettysburg the next (or maybe it was the other way around) tells me all I need to know about his talent.

  9. Yep. There is a group of people, lets call them snowflakes, who freaks out any time you question anything about this country. It’s kinda weird how many of those same people think America wasn’t great before Trump came along...

  11. Have you guys ever thought about how our defense doesn't really go up against an offense during practice time that resembles Wisconsin's & Iowa's? No disrespect to our offensive line/tight ends, but I'd say that measuring the strength of our defensive front seven probably can't be accurately done quite yet against our own offense in practice. I think we'll know against Colorado how much progress has really been made there.

  12. A literal and factually based assessment is not an overreach. If he did what is alleged to have done, then that is truly a felony per the law itself. Then you take into account context, and he will likely plead to probation/diversion/misdemeanor/something minor and not serious. There's no overreach anywhere. Also, what exactly is an incarnation crisis? Too many deities embodying humans in California?

  18. Removing him from office or worse impeaching without removal and then no longer having that looming threat to at least partially keep him in check would be a big defeat for her. Pence would walk strait in to the oval after that and pardon Trump, if they even could convict. I'd personally prefer if he lost the election, SDNY and whoever else charged him the next day and he and his idiotic offspring were actually held accountable for their tax dodging and other crimes. Her mistake was answering that question in the first place, in any way that wasn't "We'll have to wait and see what the numerous investigations uncover and will consider all evidence as they wrap up." If they cant convict in the senate it's a moot point. Also we'll have much more detail about just how much of an idiot and crook he is by the time the next election rolls around, it would probably be a gift to the republican party if they were able to say "Yeah, that was an anomaly lets move on" rather then having to explain it all publicly for months.

  19. Long time lurker, noticed over the last week or so you have about 1 positive and 20-30 negatives to say. He does a great job shedding the block and forcing the ball carrier out of bounds. Also, there was no cut back, because if he would've cut, he would've been out of bounds. Thirdly, if you ever have done any real coaching or taken any coaching classes, you always reinforce negatives with a positive. You have no idea what happened after the play, and what was said by the coaches. Overall, it was a great play.

  21. I don't know much about corn products/byproducts, but I assume you're saying they use corn for fuel and then some/all of the waste is then given to the cow, correct? (Or is it the other way around?). I'm guessing the chart doesn't account for that, but they could account for it if they wanted to. They could look at how much corn was sold and how much corn the companies using it for fuel was direct purchases and how much was a byproduct after it was used for other things, or the feed was a byproduct from when it was turned into fuel, and not count it twice. You can't know from the chart they're not already doing that. I imagine it's pretty difficult to keep track of, though. https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/plugged-in/the-u-s-now-uses-more-corn-for-fuel-than-for-feed/ Lastly, I think corn as feed AND fuel are wastes, so even if the poundage was reduced by half, it would still be by far the largest part of the pie. Then you look at the other uses, and they're mostly crap too.

  22. Sorkin is definitely left but I think someone like TG would love the show because of Will McAvoy (Jeff Bridges') character. He's an actual registered Republican but one that speaks out against the tea party, extremism, fake news/media and the like.

  26. Ok, first of all, corn is not mainly used for sugar and fuel. Both of those are a biproduct of othefbindustries that use the corn. Second, I am all for looking at our subsidies and cutting back where needed. But, here we have an industry that is heavily affected by what happens in Washington politically. Some idiot President makes a stupid decision and the markets crash and can put a huge number of farmers out of business. We then turn around and bad mouth corporate farms. Well, you take all subsidies away, the farming industry goes fast towards large corps doing the farming. Farmers shouldn’t be getting subsidies if corn is $7. I don’t have a problem with it if corn is $3. this also is is a national security issue. We have the most secure food source in the world. That’s a good thing and we need to protect that.

  28. I’m fine with having safety nets for farmers. That’s a no brainer. It’s volatile and there are big repercussions for society if a lot of them go out of business. I just don’t think we should be subsidizing things that are mostly used for sugar and for gasoline that I think we could do a lot better than and food for an animal we should be eating way less of and food for humans that a ton of other foods are more nutritious than. Corn just isn’t worthy of subsidies, imo.

  30. All over the news right now. Decade-long (at least) scheme to help the wealthy and privileged and their offspring cheat the system at the expense of others. It is amazing just how much corruption there is going on all around. Only a tiny fraction of these activities ever come to light. Which means a whole lot of things are being gotten away with. College sports followers know of the ongoing college basketball corruption scandal investigation. And other scandals in other sports as well - too many to mention. Also, this new fiasco also involved students getting athletic scholarships who never played their sport and paid athletes taking the place of others. Most Americans still believe in the idea of fairness and not cheating to get ahead. At least I hope it’s still most. As a Federal prosecutor pointed out, "For every student admitted through fraud, an honest, genuinely talented student was rejected." This point CANNOT be overstated. Thousands of honest young people have had their lives permanently changed by being overlooked and passed over for someone else who didn’t deserve to be where they got. And entire college programs have suffered - those who tried their best to play by the rules and not cheat even though others they were competing against may have played by different rules. Wrong teams and programs have won championships. Deserving teams were cheated out of what should have been theirs. It’s incredibly sad when someone feels they have to "win" so bad that they don’t care what ugly means they use to do that. Numerous titles have been won this way. But the trophies in those trophy cases can’t mask the fact that they were acquired by the worst kind of losers in the game of real life. Deserving teams who would have won had their rightful championships robbed from them. Scandals and cheating are nothing new. It’s too bad that so many people can’t use that kind of ingenuity for a much better purpose.

  32. Nobody here wants to encourage bad behavior, but writing a truculent dissertation off of some snippets of practice video isn't the correct approach either. This is exactly why media availability is so limited these days, and for the better, in my opinion. We can't even be trusted to rationally approach what little access we are given.

  35. I agree. I think we will have a war of words between the 2 party banner carriers. Now Booker says he isn't going to be negative - we'll see if he can hold that line during the primaries and then see, if nominated, if he can hold it back against Trump. But Kasich would be a dramatic contrast to our current president for sure. He could be the next Cool Cal - Coolidge. - 100 years later in fact. Funny - he happened to replace one of the worse scandal filed admins in our history -- Harding's admin. Time for history to repeat itself. History has a funny way of cycling. I guess we don't always learn and we elect dufus after dufus 100 years apart.
