Even as a UNL grad I never fell into the misery of following Nebrasketball and used family ties to Kansas to be a Jayhawk "fan" which consisted of watching a game or two in March. With KU involved in the shoe scandal and the hiring of Hoiberg I hereby renounce being a Jayhawker and will become an avid Nebrasketball fan. And as a private company, I basically have no say in what they decide. I'm tied in, usually by my employer's choice, not mine, and there's no advocate on my behalf for any issues I may have. Whereas, if government is involved in healthcare, I have local, state & national representatives I can appeal to - people who represent me, not the insurer. Further, the government isn't designed to make a profit off my healthcare, while health insurers make a tidy profit off me.

Arguably the greatest accomplishment in the history of Nebraska Basketball was winning the NIT. That happened in 1996, 23 years ago. Since that time Nebraska has gone through three head coaches (Barry Collier, Doc Sadler & Tim Miles), only made the NCAAs twice (1998 & 2014), and has nine NIT appearances, going 7-9 and failing to advance past the second round. The combined records of Collier, Sadler & Miles are 306-294 - a .510 winning percentage over 19 seasons. It's a history of futility. We're the only major conference team to never win an NCAA game. We haven't won a conference tournament in over two decades, and haven't won a conference regular-season championship in almost seven decades. So, enter Fred Hoiberg. Took Iowa State to the Sweet 16 in 2014, and finished with a record of 115-56 (.673) for the Cyclones. Four NCAA wins, which may be the most exciting thing. Fastest coach in Iowa State history to win 100 games (out of 148). He's bona fide. So he takes over for Nebrasketball, a program with excellent facilities, deep pockets and dedicated fans. He won't lack for resources here, and he won't lack for support. What should we expect from all that? I'm setting the bar low with my votes. I think he should get us an NCAA win in two years. That depends a bit on who he keeps/recruits, but the resources are there. I see no reason why that can't happen.

I went with the reasonable choice- win a NCAA game within 3 years. Long term, hopefully with a competent coach we can have sustained success over a long enough period to change the perception of what UNL is. In discussion about basketball it would be cool that people's first thought when they hear Nebraska is that we have a legitimate basketball program and not just "football school". We'll never be considered a top basketball school and football will always be king but elevating the program from being a sport we also participate in to more often than not making the tourney would be amazing.

It's silly to compare the ethical violations of the two parties, as if one is better than the other. But I'm going to do it anyway.

My family has been on Obamacare for 3 years. Really grateful for the option, as I'm self-employed with wildly varying income month to month. Last year my wife got a job with full benefits from a private company. Turns out the coverage was worse and more expensive. It forced my wife to go with her company's plan or lose any benefit, while the rest of us stayed on Covered California (the state version of Obamacare -- one that wasn't sabotaged by Republican governors). My monthly check still goes to a private health insurer. I have all the bad choices I had before Obamacare. I'd say the hatred of Obamacare is a mystery to me, but it's not. If the vindictive little narcissist gave ACA the basic support it needed and rebranded it Trumpcare, he would save lives, money and be a legitimate hero. Of course he would never do such a thing.

God willing the 2016 election wasn't unique to Hilary. There is absolutely no grievance listed against Trump that the Clintons didn't do worse.

Yep...there is not really the old senior jump anymore. If anything, to the NBA it just makes him a year older. The NBA, more than any other league, drafts on potential and pre-draft workouts.

Hence the 7 year contract. This guy just got a great job in my opinion. Top 10 pay and not top 10 expectations. All the pieces in place to succeed like a top 10 program but no history at the program to have high hopes. If the guy gets us to a sweet 16 he. Could retire here a legend haha

I voted NCAA tournament win in 3 years. Fred's been out of the college game for a few years, and may need to adjust/tweak his system to the way the Big 10 plays and is officiated, stuff like that. Nebraska basketball isn't in a position to demand instant gratification, give him some space and time.

I would think that every junior in a power conference would do the same thing.

This is an exciting time for Nebraska athletics.

I expect next year to be about the same as this past year. Sorta mimic the football team. Some growing pains to be experienced. Hopefully roby stays and Allen decides the greener pasture is in Lincoln. What I’m excited about is players learning and getting better as the year goes along. Something miles failed to do. Years 2-3 could be special for us fans.

No. I don’t think they should try to stop people at the border unless they have a manhunt going on. Like RedDenver said that’d make it a prison. And like NM pointed out a lot of these people are from other countries than Mexico. I don’t think the US should bother stopping anyone entering Canada illegally either. If they want to leave that’s their prerogative and they can face the consequences they get if they’re caught by Canada. And lastly there’s no financial incentive to do so. I wonder if you’ve heard Trump too many times saying Mexico is sending people over the border. These are individuals deciding to leave. We have every right stopping them entering but it would be a waste of $ and in my opinion wrong for Mexico to forcefully stop them. They aren’t breaking Mexican laws by leaving and there shouldn’t be laws for leaving a country (unless you’re wanted and trying to escape punishment).

which of the hundreds of republican led investigations convicted the clintons? there were 33 investigations and congressional hearings on jsut benghazi. biggest fault they found was that budget cuts (led by republicans) led to understaffing of the embassy security details. and some spin that hilary could have done more. maybe she could have boarded a jet and flown over there and rode her velociraptor and carried some m-16's into battle and saved the embassy like donald would have done?

After he left Miami. Ha!!! Tyrone Williams shot a guy and Osborne hid the gun from the police. Riley Washington faced attempted murder charges while at Nebraska. Abdul Muhammad was shot in the butt as a result of being a gang banger in Compton.

He often does the opposite of what he says he stands for. He’s smarmy as hell and always has been since the first time I saw him with his grade school girls about to burst into tears about how terrible Obama and his health care plan are for the country and how their daddy was going to fix it. I also in general don’t think university presidents should have that strong of a political leaning, at least publicly, and I don’t trust staunch Republicans to make good decisions when it comes to scientific research. He’s said some decent things when it comes to climate change (at least he believes it’s happening) but that brings me back to the first sentence of this post.

Fred is going to have to persuade top rated recruits that Nebraska is the place to come to and be on the ground floor of a great basketball program on the upswing now. Best of luck to him.

Honestly, I'd hate to see it go away also but some days, many recently, it seems like a viable option. I just wish it wasn't such a focal point of the board for some. It used to be a fairly significant attraction for me. I've just become fed up with it being little more than a forum to complain about Trump. Probably warranted but man does it get old.
