  1. I love these people who have zero expectations, and who are happy with whatever they're given. They go to a nice restaurant, order a fancy meal, and when cold half-microwaved chicken nuggets are served on a paper plate, they're super happy, and say, "It's great, because I had no expectations!"

  3. Yeah, this is a tough conversation to have. Anyone willing to risk and sacrifice for the greater good deserves our respect. The stakes are obviously higher in the military, but that's not the only place where profound sacrifices are made by everyday Americans. The military produces some incredibly thoughtful young people who bring a valuable perspective to any number of professions they pursue after their service. I'm always interested in hearing the military POV --- which is often more realistic and less partisan than some pretend. But if you bother to scratch the surface, the notion that American service people fight and die for our American freedoms is not true. It makes a lot of us feel better, but it's a lie that's disrespectful to the men and women who make the sacrifice. American freedoms have not been directly threatened, not even by Pearl Harbor, and the idea that they risk their lives to export American-style freedom and democracy to other nations has become a cruel joke. Men who risk nothing send young people to war to line pockets, feed egos, and play games, and it's probably been that way forever. You can respect the military but question the "patriotism" of leaders who don't really like democracy at all.

  4. That's a good point, Guy. The people that simply use our treatment of service members to harvest votes, power and money are equally gross. Thought this was worth sharing. Like I've said a lot, Trump's words and actions causing tremendous damage to both us as a people and the world. This is the type.of action that would implicitly encourage war crimes.

  5. Like everyone else, I thought the ending was rushed, which is perplexing to me. The only reason I have HBO is because of GoT. How many people are going to cancel their subscriptions? HBO did a heckuva lot of advertising at the beginning of this finale, but with the disappointment fans have over the finish to their most popular show, how much confidence do we have that other shows will be worth it? Seems to me HBO left a lot of money on the table by hurrying to the finish of GoT. And I think they're going to lose a lot more because of it.

  6. I don't have much of a problem with how the last two seasons concluded, just how they got there. The first 6 seasons, spread out evenly over 10 years, were 10 episodes each, with good pacing and story-telling. The last two seasons, including making us wait a year in between, jammed 13 episodes into a rushed mess. Even this last season could have been salvaged spreading it out over 10 episodes. Instead, after 7 seasons/8 years of setup, they crammed The Great War and killing one dragon (again), revealing Targaryan lineage and killing second dragon, The Last War, and killing Dany into 4 episodes.

  7. Even bigger question: what was the point of Jon being a Targ?

  8. While I have nothing but respect for those who choose to serve our country, I'm growing increasingly appalled by how much we fetishize military service and "honoring the troops" as I age. Pro sports leagues use it basically as a fundraiser to move merch by "partnering" with the military so it's just thrust on those of us that like to watch sports. And then the talk of Trump wanting a military parade in D.C. is also something that didn't sit well with me. But it's one of those areas of life you have to be careful discussing, because as soon as you make even the most milquetoast critique of how we deify the military (who are, after all, just Americans like the rest of us), you get half the populace that jumps your sh#t and utterly loses their mind because they can't deal with anyone "criticizing the troops." Well, this is a time to talk about it. The acts described here are disgusting and wicked. This man is a war criminal who should not be pardoned. That Trump would do so strictly to double down on how much he "loves" the troops is more proof he's despicable and completely devoid of humanity. He's trying to symbolically do it on Memorial Day, too, so it gets more attention. What an utterly evil, gross thing to do.

  10. Yeah fair enough, didn't realize it was the bowl game ring. Intentionally misleading tweet, and I fell for it. I still just don't know about Annexstad - he was thrown in as a freshman, so I'm sure he'll improve. Fleck's Western Michigan QB improved a lot freshman-sophmore years, and doesn't look like he was much of a runner either. But Annexstad did get benched, so it seems like he'll have to win the job back to start. They've got some receivers in any case, Johnson is a stud.

  12. I'm canceling it tonight. This was their big chance to prove to me that I should buy their service. They completely blew it. I have waaaaay too much stuff to watch on Netflix & Amazon already, but if they'd have blown me away with this series I might have stayed. No chance now. And I'm not sticking around for the spinoffs.

  19. Everything after Dany dying was kind of horse poop writing. First Drogon attacking the chair, not Jon, then everyone getting the fanservice endings that they wanted. Jon getting to live where he felt freest, Sansa being the Queen in da Norf, Arya being an explorer, and Bran being King. Kind of turns me off of the Starks in general (no matter the crap the family experienced throughout the story). Jon, flat out, should have been roasted by Drogon. I've stated previously in this thread, but I feel a better ending would have been Kings Landing burning due to Wildfire (foreshadowed more times in the show than Dany turning "mad") accidentally set off by Dany when she attacks the Red Keep. They can't have her as Queen (though a main reason they chose Bran also applies to her), but she has a realization she just wanted a family and a home. She bounces with Jon to Dorne, the North, or simply Dragonstone and they live the rest of their days not worrying about ruling or the throne. In short, everything in the back half of this season felt like they needed to hit plot points more than anything happening naturally (plotters vs pantsers mentioned earlier). If they were going to have this "happy" ending, why not have it for every "hero" character. Also Bronn is a POS and should have died at the Field of Fire part deaux. He did not deserve to be Lord of Highgarden nor a seat on the Small Council.

  21. IIRC, the sails of the ship she was on had the wolf emblem, implying that Sansa foot the bill. As far as what part of her history shows that this was a possibility, there was the scene with the actress from season 6. Mentioned in this vid at about 3:47
    1 point
  22. I can see that. But becoming an explorer? How would she fund that? Where did she get the ships or crew? What part of her history shows us that this was a possibility for her? It would make sense if Yara sailed into the unknown west, but not Arya.

  23. I understood it as she went to KL to kill Cersei, but ultimately was convinced by Sandor, that living a life with revenge and killing as your main objective can ultimately be more damaging to yourself. It served her character by allowing her to finally be at peace and move on and explore the world, rather than destroy/kill.

  27. I'm concern wt the swing ---- we swung way to far right wt Trump. And yes, as others have said - many of the proposals by the Dem candidates aren't as far left or aren't as big of a swing where it will hurt us. Here is one benefit of swing to the left this time around however that I do see - the polices on the left will have a greater opportunity to unite us instead of divide us as Trump has done.

  32. The Huskers in 2019 need to catch some breaks and have a few things go their way. There will be a vast improvement with this team talent wise and the familiarity of the scheme will help. If we get a couple of players to develop well that will really help us in 2019. Offense QB- Adrian will be great this year and hopefully, we see some of the backups in a couple of game this year. The depth is solid at this position. -RB room is figured out with Washington, Johnson, and Mills. Might see some of Wandale and other back here as well. -TE-more people step up and get some yards, especially in the red zone -WR- replacing Stanley won't be easy. However, we have many capable players and someone will be making plays here with JD. Oline- The center and guard spots need to improve. Adrian cannot be taking 5 high snaps a game from the center position. Hixon looks good but how well will he do against B1G foes? At the same time, this offense will look scary. Wandale motions into the backfield while Mo goes to the slot. We will be running circles around some defenses if we can get it figured out. Overall, we need to be better at being consistent on Offense. No spurts of 10 or so minutes without scoring. Also, it's great to get 500 or so yards of offense, but we need to turn those into touchdowns. Defense DL- They have to be elite this year. We need to get pressure and be much better at stopping the run. The talent and depth are there this year, so no excuses with this group. ILB- Mo Barry will be on another level and can Collin Miller step up and Honas stay healthy next to him? How good will Hannah be when he steps on campus? OLB- Tannor and Davis need to step up. Ferguson will be solid if he stays healthy and Garrett Nelson will play this year and can give us some depth. This group must improve! CB- This group needs to be elite for this season. Between Bootle, Jackson, Taylor and Pola Gates, they should be really good. They should be ready for the challenge. S- Some question marks with this group but some solid pieces. Williams and Dismuke are solid. How will Eric Lee adjust to adding depth to this room? Will CJ Smith be healthy? JJ Domann will also greatly help this group out so we look good but not great. However, if everything goes our way this group will be very good. Overall, turnovers are key for this group- force two or more a game and we will be really good. Now that guys know where they need to be, we should have the confidence to make plays and be hungry to force turnovers. Improvement of the pass rush and stopping the run this year will get the defense off the field. Limiting big plays is another thing that will improve with familiarity and it being year 2. Special Teams Punter- we have a competition with the MSU punter and Armstrong Kicker- Barrett should continue to improve his game and gain confidence down the stretch. I also predict we take a kickoff and a punt return to the house. Something we haven't really seen since DPE freshman year. If we get an improvement with this unit that can help us win games. Look what good punting did for us the last seven games when Armstrong was inserted. Good special teams play can be the difference in close games. 2019 will be the first year we start and finish the season well. This is something we haven't seen in a long time. It might be too soon to make it to Indy but anything is possible My prediction: Huskers will go 9-3.

  35. A few questions for everyone: Do you think exceptions should be made in cases of rape or incest of a minor? Do you think it is okay for a woman to terminate a non viable pregnancy to begin the greaving process? Do you think it is okay to terminate the pregnancy if a woman’s health is at risk? Do you think it is okay to abort one fetus if it means saving siblings sharing the same womb? Do you think it is important for a woman to talk to her doctor about options without the fear of persecution? If you answer “yes” to just one of these, congratulations! You are “pro-choice”. Welcome to the very complicated and overly villafied spectrum of “baby killers!”

  37. If you start from the middle and compromise with the increasingly far Right, what do you actually believe in? Also: surprise! The GOP has no intention of compromising with you. That should have been Lesson #1 from your 8 years as Vice-President. Also: the supposedly extreme left positions on behalf of healthcare, the environment, and education are actually supported by a majority of Americans when the issues are explained to them. Given the utterly ludicrous spending priorities we have at the moment, there's no safety or honor in the status quo.

  38. I don’t want a candidate who campaigns on reaching across the aisle to a bunch of people who bent over and took it up the a$$ from a racist misogynist with 2 brain cells to rub together. The GOP doesn’t deserve to be brought to the table on anything. They’re a cancer for this country and it’s a 50/50 tossup on whether we’ll survive them.

  39. Dany going Mad Queen is on point with portions of her character; there have always been cracks in her visage that she's had to be pulled back from, and everyone she has trusted is gone now. However, D&D have done an awful job of rushing through the end of her character arc, to the point where her sacking King's Landing doesn't feel earned. I loved how Cleganebowl ended; Sandor realizing that the only way to end the fight was really the way their fight began: by shoving his brother into fire. It just took a few hundred feet of a drop. Arya is absolutely killing Dany. Part of me hopes that Jon just says "F*** this" and heads north to live out his days with Ghost and Tormund.
