  1. Your answers should've been No and No. It is not OK for a football player or any student to sit in their dorm and smoke weed. It's against University rules and probably also team rules. You and many others are confusing "what should be" with "what is". You don't just get to make up your own rules because you, or even a majority of others, disagree with the current rules. And I don't know where/how anyone thinks this is what teams do that are trying to excel at football or any sport. Weed is not a performance enhancer. Sure, it may not be as bad for the body as alcohol or eating junk food but you would have to cite the study that proves smoking MJ helps players perform. The answer is No, because putting weed ahead of your teammates and commitments is what selfish people do. It is in no way, shape or form a plan for making the player or team better. And, right or wrong, it is currently against Nebraska law and University rules. I'm not impugning his character over either issue. However I am beginning to question his intelligence and his commitment to the team. It may not be fair but big time D1 football players, especially at Nebraska, are under a microscope and need to conform to a higher standard of conduct. That goes double for a player who is already involved with an issue that is cutting into his practice time and availability to participate in games. If weed or alcohol or whatever is more important to them than the team, then they may find themselves not on the team. It may not be a character issue but it is at the least stupid and irresponsible. Personally I don't think either issue is a deal breaker....yet, but it is definitely strike 2 with an 0-2 count.

  2. This is a silly thing to wonder about. I drank in HS and fairly heavily in college. I smoked weed and also tried quite a few other illegal drugs. I am not too concerned if my kids drink or smoke some weed before they're 21. None of this has any bearing whatsoever on thinking what Mo did in this specific situation was stupid or not. I and my kids do not play football for Nebraska and we have not already been charged with felony that is this far undecided. What makes this stupid is he is already under a microscope, he represents a team and coach (not just himself) and for gosh sakes, if you're going to smoke weed in Nebraska, don't friggin get caught. It's not that hard. None of the things he's done are that bad on their own but it is beginning to display a pattern and that pattern is not making good decisions and not doing smart things and not operating in the best interests of his team.

  3. IMO, what the research does or doesn't say is, at this point, irrelevant to the matter at hand. As are personal opinions about marijuana. The university outlaws what Mo did. The state does not have legalized marijuana. I think we've all done things that were illegal and didn't get caught, but if one does get caught, making indirect or direct excuses for it is lame. It sort of is what it is until the law says otherwise.

  4. You and me must gave grown up in quite different areas. In grew up in the Nebraska Sandhills. There was some keg parties, but no weed. Weed was not OK. Like Merle said, " WE DON'T SMOKE MARIJUANA". It's not that hard. There's a lot of us former Sandhill kids who are shocked at how accepted it is even by the police. Just sayin. I am not justifying alcohol either. It is really bad for some folks. Weed though changes personalities, even when you are not high. I have seen it. I don't think it has a place at all in our top notch athletic dorms. I don't think you can be your best if you are getting high regularly.

  6. I concur, and I wouldn't be shocked if we backed the truck up to get both Childress *and* Bolt out of aTm. Plus, Moos said he wants a coach that has P5 head coaching experience already. That kind of rules out Bolt (even though I'd be ecstatic with him as a head coach). Additionally, according to Sipple on the Ticket Early Break show, Erstad had already given notice to the AD he was going to quit...though he didn't give a specific time when he would quit...just that it would happen in the near future. So the AD office had plenty of time to make a list and check it twice. Long story short, I wouldn't be shocked if Moos already has a primary target in mind. Hell, it's Moos...he probably already has a deal in principle with the new coach and he's just gonna make us wait a week just because.

  7. I'm pretty sure everyone understands this but in this context 'best bet' means the best combination of odds to payout ratio, not "most likely to actually win the title."

  9. D-Day has always been remarkable to me, particularly when taking into consideration a lot of the mistakes that happened, like the beach defenses and artillery being missed during the pre-landing bombings, or much of the airborne landing in the wrong DZ's. I think what's even more remarkable to me is how many young men laid down their lives on that day, but also in the war in general. I have often reflected on what I would've done or thought if I had been 18 and drafted, charging up the beach with a bunch of other kids. They did what they had to. Myself and a lot of other people have led far easier lives thanks to their sacrifices, and future generations will (hopefully) experience something similar.

  12. Soooo, they got one player to anecdotally hazard a guess at the percentage of NFL players who smoke weed and that’s your proof? And the premise of that article was NFL players using it as an alternative for pain management. That actually makes good sense for NFL players and anyone who is managing pain. Does Mo have lingering pain issues? I mean that one hit he took last year did look pretty nasty Look, I’m really not disagreeing with your position on weed. Hell I take CBD oil and occasionally marijuana edibles for health reasons, and I’ve been known to puff the magic dragon for purely recreational purposes (it’s legal where I live, unlike Lincoln Nebraska) But until the law and rules actually change, what Mo did in this instance was wrong. I’m not saying kick him off the team or that it is some huge character flaw. I’m just saying it was stupid and not team oriented behavior.

  15. Well, you’re wrong You can disagree, think it’s okay and personally reject all the ideas you want. We aren’t dealing with defining if it is inherently okay or not. It is clearly and decidedly not okay because it is against the law and University rules. That fact is not debatable. It is perfectly fine to have the opinion that weed use should be legal and should not be against University or team rules. Heck I might even agree with you on that. But it is just flat out wrong to say it’s okay now simply because it “should” be or because others do it. And the “other players and teams are doing it” will never be any kind of good argument. In fact it’s one of the dumbest things I’ve read in quite some time. Since when does what other people do have any bearing at all on what is good to do? Show me the studies that prove weed use aids sports performance and I might begin to listen. And while you’re at it, please support your claim that the overwhelming majority of players on the teams listed smoke weed. You might smoke weed. I might smoke weed. Heck we both may have seen plenty of NU football players smoke weed (I saw a very high profile player from an early 80’s team doing coke) but that is not the same as claiming an overwhelming majority do it. Really, I’d be interested to see the proof of this.

  17. Great thread. buuttttt isn't Jake Tapper apart of fake news, unpatriotic CNN?? This seems pretty patriotic to me and it is much more appropriate than Trump's tweets about Bette Milder at 2 am this morning. I like what one poster said after Jake's tweets: Oh, to have a real president again who can lead and who leads without consideration of self.

  19. Man am I glad all the stupid stuff I did as a young guy in high school and college were not plastered on today's social media platform so people to judge. Young guy doing some stupid things. Find me a grown a$$ adult that wasnt stupid when they were a kid. In a few months when he is streaking down the sideline against Ohio State for an 80 yard TD no one will give a crap he probably smoked some dope in his dorm room in June.

  20. You're right. It's not a crisis in the sense that we are being invaded by an unprecedented number of those horrible brown people. It is a crisis though in the sense that it's women and children at the border and something needs to be done to make sure they are safe and then decide if they should be allowed in or not. In a deeper view, it's a crisis that the American market for drugs and deportation of violent criminals has created such horrible conditions in these countries that these families need to flee. I firmly believe that we need to keep trying to help these countries stabilize themselves. Once that's done, they will stop knocking on our door. The vast majority of these people actually want to live in their own country. They don't want to make such a dangerous journey to here. But, they feel they need too. Demonizing these people is not the answer in a practical sense nor a moral sense. And....yes....I agree that Trump likes this "crisis" because it's something else to talk about other than Russia.

  21. It's not for me. For some reason Elaida wants to bring it. He's never even shown interest in going to a game before. I guess it finally dawned on him that a Husker game is probably way better than anything the Bulldogs can muster and he needs to document it while he's there.

  22. I shake my head at this, not because of the severity of the crime, but because of the poor judgment shown when everyone knows that the spotlight is on him. This is nowhere close to LP, but you better pull your head out of your dumb a$$ and start thinking about the choices you make and how they reflect on you and your team. Weed paraphernalia may be small potatoes in the whole scheme of things, but this is how you erode trust. We have a wave of positive press and good hype going into the season. The biggest black eye during the offseason so far has been Maurice Washington, and now he's brought it on himself again.

  35. The transfer rules haven't really changed. The portal has been added and they seem to be more lenient with waivers but the base rules are basically what they have been. As you said this type of situation has been a criticism of previous coaches. I was wondering if that stayed the same or it changes when we like the coach better.

  36. Me as well ... just don't believe that the fans will say this if we lose those home games to Ohio State, Wisconsin and Iowa, with two of those loses being to those in our own side of the conference. Yes, 9-3 is good now ... but it we get to the end of the season and these are the loses ... I expect frustration from the fans. Glad to hear you won't be one of those. As I disregard records, personally, I think I will be disappointed if we lose to both Wisky and Iowa. I think the program needs to win at least one of those to start to turn the tide to these two programs that have laid us out. To go 9-3 and lose to these two teams just doesn't sit well with me. I'd rather go 8-4 or 7-5 and beat one of these teams or both. My two cents.

  37. This is correct. The one thing that would actually help stem the flow of asylum seekers from Central and South America would be humanitarian aid and helping them stabilize and democratize their countries. Instead the Trump immigration doctrine is to prove how cruel and inhumane we can treat people when they arrive so the base knows how tough we are on immigration. In part because Trump doesn't want to or can't solve other problems, but also the logical conclusion of the GOP stoking fear and anger at "the other" to its base for votes.
