I think Iowa State has been a better football program than ours the last 2-3 seasons. I think Matt Campbell is a heck of a coach. And I think offer lists are a single tool in an evaluation of a player, not the end-all, be-all, or did you forget that our main competition for Ameer Abdullah was Vanderbilt?

At this stage he is bigger, faster, stronger than Garrett Nelson was with better offers....

I think it's also more the fact that this kid has barely played football. He didn't play all last year and has grown a ton since his soph season. We will see how he does this year as a SR who is healthy again. I agree that offers usually tell you about how good someone is, but we would miss out on several good players from the midwest who don't get the same exposure.

Back when Christy played for Nebraska the coaching staff let him call his own games. He also handled a couple of A&M games when Childress wasn't there and did well. I think he will do fine as far as pitch calls and staff management. The part that is harder to guess about for me would be pitching mechanics & development. I do not know much about baseball but maybe coaching pitching is more about how to recognize when mechanics are off and correcting those flaws and not as much about developing pitches? So maybe it takes a good eye vs practical experience in throwing pitches? Maybe there is someone on the board that can speak to this as I am guessing. Time will tell on that. Catchers generally make good coaches. I think folks agree on that. It should be noted that Bolt, Christy and Silva were all on staff together at Nebraska so Bolt is familiar with what Silva brings to the table. As far as letting Silva go, part of the decision could have to do with chemistry or perhaps it has to do with recruiting. Guessing again. Bolt is reportedly bringing in Harvell a top notch recruiter with Southern ties and he will probably be the recruiting coordinator. Maybe that was something Silva didn't want to give up? Just spit balling here. Maybe he wanted a local guy to recruit locally and a national guy? The Huskers.com interview seems to indicate it's all about chemistry and recruiting. Also I saw somewhere that people thought 300K was low. I am not sure if it was on this board. I do not think that it is low. I saw an article dated 2017 that baseball head coaches in the B1G made an average of $245K (or something close to that) The author said he couldn't find 2 Head coach salaries (Erstad and one other) but this is a decent guideline. So $300K for a first time Head Coach in the Big ten two years later sounds about right to me.

How do you know he didn’t? It is pretty clear that he made a run at Childress.

Actually looking forward to playing them this season, haven't had that mindset for quite some time.

Watching his video from the Pipeline camp, this kid has potential. May not be an immediate contributor, but I bet he develops into a really good player. He's probably a good senior season away from even more P5 offers.

I usually wait until one class is signed before starting the list for the next class. But it seems like we have a lot of 2021 kids visiting already so why not now? My goal isnt to be Iowa State, nor should we hope every low 3* player turns into the next Ameer. There are hundreds of examples when it doesn't work out that way. I hope he turns into a good player just like you do.

Of course it’s not easy, but championships across sports shouldn’t be compared apples to apples. If I’m understanding what I’m reading, there are currently less than 50 division I bowling teams and I’m guessing they don’t all offer scholarhips. Back in 2004 there were less than 50 bowling teams of any division. Nebraska mostly likely had a pretty big leg up in getting athletes. Straub might be the best coach but just throwing the # of championships out there doesn’t tell the whole story.

This one could have been much worse, because this guy was loaded for bear. But law enforcement quickly returned fire after this person shot at the building, he fled, and was shot dead in a parking lot near the scene. Here's video of the gunman going down. Christy as a pitching coach is very underwhelming.

Those are the 5 that started the 95 Orange Bowl. Humphrey spelled Graham and Dishman spelled Zatechka. The other 3 played the whole game. But to be honest, none of them other than Stai look familiar to me in this picture.....and I was about 32 at the time.

Yeah, I will remind that I was very torn at the time of the decision. As a Huskers fan though I forced myself to buy in to the next coach. Bo did do a lot of things right, you hit the nail on the head with the poor things. He just kept stepping on his own in front of national crowds.
