  3. "Go back to where you came from" has been used for longer than you or I have been around as a dog whistle to indicate to people who aren't caucasian that they are not welcome in the United States.

  5. I'll take this a step further. No one should go out of their way to give the Birther-in-Chief, with what he's said about Mexicans, Native Americans and immigrants in general, the benefit of the doubt. When he says "progressive Democratic Congresswomen" it's abundantly clear who he's talking about. And the sentiment "go back where you came from" attempts to deny them their status as Americans like the rest of us. Pretty clear he's trying to say that immigrants or those recently descended from them aren't as American as others (in this case, white folks). It's racist because he's attempting to make those women into an other against which to pit his supporters primarily because they come or came from different parts of the world. The subtext is that white Americans who have no such recent lineage from outside our shores are superior to them. And honestly, the whole "The United States is the greatest country ever and you can't criticize it" bit is so lame. That's part of his argument and I've seen other GOP politicians starting to toss it out there as well now in response to all this. It's a lazy attempt to shut down any legitimate criticism of our country. Blind nationalism is not patriotic nor is it helpful at this juncture. We become better and improve ourselves not by ignoring our faults but by being honest about them.

  8. I have tons of proof that both Republicans and Democrats have been inconsistent on the issue of immigration, detention, and deportation over the years. That being said, there is currently a border crisis that goes beyond our standard immigration policy to involve a refugee/asylum situation that's shared by many other countries around the globe. It is never an easy situation but it does go to character. While there might be debate over what exactly is taking place inside those detention centers, chances of it being better than we were led to believe are slim. Chances of it being genuinely horrifying are high. I also haven't seen a convincing denial that private companies run by Trump friends and appointees aren't profiting from the willful cruelty --- at taxpayer expense. At which point I don't give a f#&% what Barack Obama did. And given that the President behind the current policy opened his campaign by painting Mexican immigrants as murderer and rapists — and only got worse from there — you're kinda stuck with your worst assumptions.

  10. Trump doubling down this morning. This is why Im a proud supporter of the justice democrats. This is exactly why they came into existence. To get everyday working people into office to fight for their positions, uncorrupted by not taking lobbyist money and fight the other side. These women along with Ro Khanna are LEADERS! And the GOP hates it. When you have a president like this you fight him! And he cant f#&%ing stand it! I love it!

  15. That's fine, I don't fear Nebraska either. Sure, Nebraska scored 53 on Minnesota last year, but then Illinois scored 55 on the Gophers, we replaced our DC, and held Purdue, Wisconsin, and Georgia Tech to 10, 15, and 10. Those teams were all better than Nebraska or Illinois. Nebraska doesn't have as much developed talent as you seem to think, and there's nothing special about your team this year. You're trending upward, but so are we. I'll see you on October 12th!

  17. referring to this I assume? Congresswoman Omar has truly brought the racist and xenophobic into the light and that extends past DT. Every day they attack her because of her faith and heratige. It is one of the most unamerican things I can think of to be saying the things DT said today and that the conservative folks say nearly daily about the Congresswoman and yet his base thinks they are 'defending this country'. It is sick.

  18. I'll be honest with you. Nobody paid attention under Obama, because when you have someone who seems competent at their job and a decent enough guy you don't go looking for every misstep and character defect they might have.

  24. It is if they received the full medical care we're capable of giving them, or they were in late-stage cancer, or whatever. How sure are you that this is the case? Dehydration is pretty easy to treat with an IV. Was the person who died of dehydration given IV fluids?

  25. Indeed - I'm on your side on this. Just pointing out that regardless of how it's being potentially spun and ZRods' previous post, that there's no way to explain this is appropriate. My sarcasm didn't come fully across.

  26. I'll play devils advocate - if it's not a statement he based on race, then it's based on sex. I think these women have two marks agains them in Trumps world view. if you scroll to the post above that has the pictures that explains it all pretty clearly. If he has issue with their beliefs or comments then he should have the maturity and professionalism to confront those. But we know he's stupid and even if he understood the issues he is unable to do that. If he has issue with people born in other countries representing the constituents they work for there are far more examples, but oops, they're men, and they're white for the most part. The fact that these were women, people of color and they disagreed with him, well that means all bets are off. And lets' see what happens tonight - he'll never be able to not respond to their press conference.

  27. I don’t think you’re playing devil’s advocate, more like it’s your new schtick to police how people react to things, but I digress. Sadly it’s hard to overreact to this. Which of Trump’s American enemies who aren’t minorities has he told to go back to their countries? Assuming you’re White, have you asked any minorities whether it’s ever been said to them? Has it ever been said to you? No one has ever insulted me in that way, but I’ve already read dozens of accounts from minorities saying it was said to them growing up. And no he didn’t mean only one of them. You have to try really hard to come to the conclusion the tweet wasn’t racist.

  28. Two years in a row Ohio State has gotten BLOWN OUT in B1G West road, night games. For all his accolades, I think Greg Schiano did a terrible job coordinating our defense. We've got NFL talent all over the defense and, in spite of that, our defense posted the worst numbers in 30 years. The good news is that Schiano is gone. I expect that our defense will be MUCH improved as it will be in competent hands. With that said, Nebraska may very well beat tOSU when we visit Lincoln. It would be a HUGE victory for you guys and for Scott Frost.

  29. So, just being devil's advocate. What about the tweet is racist? It's a select group of women who have criticized him, one foreign born. He doesn't denote their ethnicities. The one country in question (assuming he only really meant one, since he's an idiot and can't type well) is in fact a war torn nation in civil war for the better part of 3 decades.

  32. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2019/06/23/opinion/trump-migrants-camps.amp.html They all died in US custody. Which means they didnt receive the help they needed when they arrived if indeed this was the case. Of course the conditions didnt help at all either. The article says no child died in the last 10 years in CBP custody, so no, this s#!t didnt happen under Obama.

  33. With the stock market high and unemployment low, it will be very hard for any Democrat to unseat Trump. It's a much trickier but more important argument that we actually have had 30 years of forced income redistribution, but for some reason it's never called that when the money is handed upwards. The economic indicators are pretty much in agreement: the working and middle class have taken a big hit from supply side economics, and nothing about the pretty numbers from the last 8 years suggests a sustainable solution. In one category after another, the U.S. is drifting down the ranking of first world nations. It is literally insane how the wealthiest country on Earth chooses to spend its money.

Born in Somalia; secured US asylum from war at 10. Born in Slovenia; secured permanent residence modeling... Born in France. Born in United Kingdom. Born in Canada.

  37. I believe I recall you mentioning that. But while "I'll vote for him again" may not specifically apply to you, sadly, it applies to about 40% of this country. And that's despite all the corruption, graft, crime, potential crime and racism on overt display these past two-plus years.

  38. Interesting wrinkle I hadn't thought of. I heard Megan Rapinhoe this weekend say that it's not the salary that everyone should be focused on. Its the amount given to the league for misc that you never think of. Men get far more for coaching staff, transportation, hotel and etc - that they want that to be fair, and that she understands the salary component gets the legs in the press cuz it's easier to understand, their focus is really more on the level. Requesting equal support for what has for the last number of years a significant difference in performance and outcomes.

  40. How many people died in these camps under Obama? If my count is correct, Trumps admin is up to 27. Including 7 kids. Drinking out of toilets? Not able to take shower or brush their teeth? Sleeping on concrete floors with all lights on? Woken up at all hours of the night for no reason? Withheld medication that they brought with them? Called names and shamed? Sexual assaulted? All this happened under Obama? Prove it.

  42. @Dewiz @B.B. Hemingway You're both wrong on the merits. Factually incorrect to compare the Trump immigration doctrine to the Obama one, at least insofar as caging and detention of migrants are concerned. Find me proof of human rights abuses of immigrants under the Obama administration and I'll believe you. Until then you both just have your facts mixed up because you're speaking from a place of partisanship.

  44. I'm sorry but I don't fear Minnesota whatsoever. It's like the same thing as our team except yall have worse talent. What did you guys do last year? Won some games down the stretch, just like we did. We have better talent, a better QB and better coaching. Yes yall got better after we played you last year, but we ran your Gophers out of our stadium and honestly I don't expect it to be much different this season.

  46. And that’s where it totally baffles my mind as a historically conservative person. Why is your opinion considered the “conservative” opinion? you admit they should be paid equally. Just because they agreed to the bargaining, doesn’t mean that the issue still isn’t a valid issue, like you admit to....yet claim it’s a faux issue. (Which you actually contradict yourself) Why do conservative talking heads proclaim immediately that these women are destroying everything that is good in America just because they are claiming they should be paid more. Is it because they’re women? A gay woman? Why do conservatives jump immediately to that opinion instead of saying.....let’s look at it and see if something needs changed? Or, is it because they criticized the dear leader?
