  1. Erin is always good for these little off-beat anecdotes. I like reading her stuff.

  2. You've been brainwashed to believe that because the government says "this" type of vegetation is legal to possess but "that one" isn't that it's this heinous act. I'm going to prescribe you 10 hours of Ron Paul YouTube videos. Please turn in a three page report in triplicate on my desk by Monday.

  5. How could this be? Frost doesn't want a team of pot heads? I'll wait for all the burn outs to wake up in their mom's basements and post how stupid Frost is, how stupid the NCAA is, etc etc etc. Message board guys must be smarter than the head coach.....as always.

  8. His biggest problem is it's against the rules, and that's what he talked about the most. As far as whether it's beneficial for athletes, that likely isn't an area of expertise for Frost so it's perfectly reasonable to expect that there are people who know more about the subject than him, and it's also perfectly reasonable to discuss it or to disagree with him. Smoking pot can't be good for lung health which would be a negative effect on an athlete, but edibles may be fine. But from what I've read it's not good for developing brains, and even if it was legal in Nebraska, it wouldn't be legal for people under 21, which I think is the correct choice. I think that's something that these kids who might argue about it need to know. Even in the states it's legal, for most of the athletes it's still illegal because they're underage. So if the NCAA decided not to test anymore, the legal ramifications would still be there.

  11. Strange how Frost is disregarding how beneficial marijuana is to athletes. He must not be very smart. Unless the LPD is being tipped off or are simply being aggressive, given how many pot related incidents we've had lately I'm assuming we have many players that are more than occasional smokers. This is concerning to me, just as it would be if many players were getting DUIs.

  12. Agreed. I'd be pretty annoyed if the B1G restructured again.

  13. The topic of restructuring the divisions has come up several times over the last couple days. Obviously from the "East is too strong" standpoint. Good context from Sam. Not exactly surprising but I don't seem to hear many calling for the SEC to restructure.

  14. Barney and his family have given a lot to Nebraska football during their lifetime, hope he gets the transplant he needs and he can have a long life afterwards. I am sure Barney wants to keep coaching, but it may be smart for him to step away and enjoy retirement. I think his sons have followed him into coaching, so he can follow their careers.

  21. A. You can still have these things and get high occasionally. B. Might want to do some research on the benefits of weed for athletes...or anyone for that matter. Can’t group it with alcohol. C. I know these factors don’t circumvent the law but your mentality is outdated.

  22. Ya it's interesting... I minored in Education and there's always one thing I remember from my classes when I talk to someone who can't form an argument and just spouts talking points they've heard, and that is Piaget's theory of cognitive development. He has four stages of child development, and the last one is the formal operational stage. and I always remember the bolded, which is that not all humans reach the last stage in their lifetimes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piaget's_theory_of_cognitive_development#Formal_operational_stage

  24. I think Frost's big issue and concern with marijuana has more to do with the sacrifice you have to make to your team to not partake. If you are going to choose to use, you are choosing your needs over the team. That being said, I have no issue with marijuana or with people using it for recreational or medicinal purposes.

  26. Part of the thing about winning the Hispanic vote is that they're generally a demographic that is majority conservative because of Catholic roots. Democrats probably have more of an uphill battle to secure that vote than people realize because of this.

  27. As reprehensible as I find the Trump immigration doctrine, Democrats need to do a better job addressing the issue head on and crafting a compelling alternative vision. They left a window for him with people who are not actually in his hardcore base because they don't know how to reach out to those voters with a winning message.

  32. There's a very similar thread in the Tech forum about this topic FYI. But, FWIW, I've had YouTubeTV for more than a year and love it. $50 is decent for all the major sports channels and networks - ABC, CBS, NBC, all the ESPN's, NBA TV, MLB Network, etc. They also have the Discovery network of channels, I never miss an F1 race now, AND they gave all long time members several months of Showtime for free until September. Works beautifully on my Smart TV with Chromecast. I've never had connection or streaming quality issues with it, either.

  33. The last shot is definitely a Tom Cat, and all others are some variant of the Hornet. The Navy phased the F-14 out years ago, so we'll see what crazy story they come up with to bring it back. I loved that plane as a kid, the swept wing concept and Phoenix missles were so cool. F-18 was a good choice for a successor, I've always said they sound like the sounds of hell when they fly over head. The F-35 just isn't as sexy as it's predecessors, it's more of a bloated mess. It's cheaper

  34. Hey this is fun. So I'll play devil's advocate. We'll never know about Solich. For those too young to remember, Frank's 7-7 season was a gut punch to most Husker fans, especially those who wondered how Frank would fare after the Osborne recruits ran dry. The 9-3 season was a legitimate rebound, but even loyal Husker fans were nervous that the team looked second tier and recruiting was trending downward. We could point out that Frank went on to have a perfectly nice career at Ohio but never latched on to another Power 5 team. Add in the off-field issues, and there's the argument that letting Solich go wasn't the mistake. It was assuming any available candidate would want the job. If Martinez doesn't get injured? Man, that did feel like a turning point. For six weeks, Nebraska was the hottest thing in college football. But.....that same team with a healthy Martinez had already looked vulnerable against South Dakota State, and genuinely awful losing to unranked Texas. And the Taylor Martinez who made the most incredible runs of his life in 2012 had clearly regained his moves and his speed, and was an even better passer. 2010 was the beginning of Nebraska's defensive decline. There's not a single "what if" there, but that's where a lot of problems started. A couple more. If Bo Pelini's 2014 team had rebounded from the Wisconsin embarrassment and beaten an unranked Minnesota team at Memorial Stadium the next week, Eichorst could not have fired him. I doubt if Pelini has a breakthrough in his 8th season, but we wouldn't have Riley, and we probably wouldn't have Frost either. Joe Ganz has one more year of eligibility. That 2009 defense is backed by Ganz-led offense. It's not so much about the :01 on the clock against Texas anymore. It's a legitimate National Championship contender. And most recently: the Akron game doesn't get cancelled last year. That caused some really unhappy dominoes to fall. Easy to see three more wins in Frost's first season. Ultimately though, not much change. Optimism for season two and a lower bar to clear for improvement.
