  2. I was wondering when the "freeloaders" would be brought up. When i was in my last year of college i got very sick and they found out i had 2 different incurable autoimmune diseases. By the time the figured out was wrong there was irreversible damage and my health will keep getting worse forever. For anyone who thinks its easy to get on government benefits its not I was denied twice and had to get a lawyer and it still took over a year. Not everything is covered including the some of the best meds. I'm not rolling in cash either like so many on the right think. Its not some life of luxury. I don't know how many people are abusing the system and I'm sure it's to many but each one of my infusions i get cost $30,000 dollars and i doubt it cost what ever drug company that makes it $30,000 a dose.

  5. Ok. What they can do is keep track of all of these hundreds of variables for every player (or even a sample of players) for every practice. And also keep track of which players were injured during that time to use as a response variable. Then they can attempt to build a model to predict injuries based off of a subset of the data, and apply it to a separate subset of the data. E.g. a simple model could have 2 predictors (but probably wouldn’t work well) - in the 3 practices leading up to injuries, the players were at max speed more than 50% of the time, and changed direction over 60 times, and players that weren’t injured were usually below at least one of those amounts. If they apply it to the separate subset and their model correctly picks out 20% of the injuries the day before they happened, they can then use the model in real time. So any player that has the values that put them over that threshhold according to the model can be held out of practice the next day. They would just need to decide what amount of accuracy is worth the risk of keeping a player out of practice. If it’s only correct 5% of the time they might say screw it and not use it at all. If it’s correct 50% of the time it’s a no brainer to use it. Again, I don’t know if they’re doing this but it’s something they could try with that data. They might also simply be making sure the players are honest with them on how they feel.

  9. Nebraska's secondary allowed opponents a 57.11% completion percentage last year. While not great thats a top 40 ranking despite a front 7 providing virtually zero pass rush. Minnesota meanwhile, allowed opponents a 64.79% completion percentage. 117th worst in the nation. And before you bring up the Gophers change at DC... Over the final 3 games of the season Nebraska's secondary improved to a sparkling 45.74% cpa which puts them at #4 in the country over that span while Minnesota's cpa barely dipped at all, improving to just 63.64 - still well outside the top 100. Minnesota's secondary isn't even in the same ballpark as Nebraska's.

  10. It's that time of year when everyone with a video editor is making pump-up videos. Some are good, some are bad. I thought this one, by Drake DeWall, was pretty good.

  11. The Springtime season is a period of hope, new beginnings, and renewal. It’s a time when the darkness and long cold season finally gives way to a fresh start and a sense of joyful anticipation. Most people think the Spring season comes around March or April. But not in Nebraska. The real Spring season in Nebraska begins in August and September when the pride of The Cornhusker State starts to appear in groups of players at green fields on hot days. The real Spring season of hope and new beginnings is the start of another Big Red football campaign. August and September is the real Spring in Nebraska. Young Husker fans will experience the joys of Big Red football with fresh eyes and see things for their first times. Older fans reconnect with precious memories and times held in their personal Mind Bank of hours and days spent with treasured family and friends creating life-long riches of Husker experiences. Everyone gets back in touch with reasons and feelings of why they became fans of a college football program that makes a small upper Midwest state so famous to the world. Nebraska is mostly known to the world for sustenance-providing corn and high caliber football, and not necessarily in that order. Husker fans have been disoriented for a generation. The Cornhusker footballers have been mostly absent from their usual place among the elite of college football. It’s been hard on the fans, the team, the university, and Nebraska’s sense of identity. But there’s something stirring out in the High Plains. It is the belief that the Cornhuskers are renewing themselves to reclaim their proper role as a college football Blue Blood. And so, Spring blooms in August in Nebraska. The leaves may begin to dry and fall. The sun may start to fade instead of rising in the sky. The heat of the day will turn to cool and then cold. Birds will be flying off to warmer perches as weeks go by. But Spring is now rising in Huskerland. You know you feel it. Hope is in the air. The years of wandering in the desert are over. The Oasis is just ahead. It’s not a mirage this time. It’s the real thing. Good luck, Nebraska Cornhuskers. And Vaya Con Dios to all in Husker Nation as we begin to reenter the land of promise.

  12. I second that! He’s our guy, regardless of what happens going forward. I’m proud to have him as our coach. High character man teaching boys to be men. I’ll take that any day.

  14. https://nebraskalegislature.gov/bills/view_bill.php?DocumentID=37622 Obviously we misjudged the situation. The football team was simply trying to be industrious in the off-season by raising hemp.

  16. I agree. I’ve heard from a reliable source that these players/issues have already been dealt with internally by Frost. The way it was relayed to me, I imagined a whole bunch stadium steps....something like that. No matter the method, it’s clear the message has been relayed to the players and team and they know it’s not acceptable behavior. And imo, that is how issues like this should be handled.

  23. I’m fine with still referring to this time of year as “late summer” of even fall. And honestly, I think we all felt the seismic change in the programs fortunes beginning the day Moos introduced Scott Frost to the media. Since then it has just been executing the plan (and rolling with the inevitable punches). As Frost says, we are still another few recruiting classes from being ALL the way back, but YES this has the opportunity to be the year the Cornhuskers “flip the script” on the B1G. #GBR

  27. If it helps, I’m pulling for a later start as well. We’re making the trip from Colorado for this one and I’d hate to miss out on the full pregame experience. I’m thinking the football gods look out for us on this one and we get Gameday and the 7:00 PM slot.

  29. I wouldn't look to much into it. Noa and Spielman were both held out and AM was limited. I think they have a good idea of who their top guys are so any chance they can get to rest them to stay healthy is going to be important since the long grind happens next week.

  32. @Husker in WI and @everybody knows my name....great discussion. That's what I love about college football and wish we had more discussions like this. Every fan should be excited about their team this time of year and be optimistic. It's great that in a couple weeks, we actually get to start seeing if any of us know what the heck we are talking about. FYI...I really don't know anything about Minny's team. However, I firmly believe our O line will be greatly improved. They are bigger, stronger and more athletic than we have seen in a number of years. The scheme will also put them in a much better position to succeed. I also think, because our D line will be good, our LBs will all of a sudden look much better. Overall, we will be a much more physical and mentally tough team. This will basically make it look like we are more athletic across the board. Now, I'll go back to sipping my cool aid and ever clear.

  34. He did not use anything near that strong of language. And to be fair, it’s not really his job to do so. He has to walk the line between opinion and generating excitement. He can’t say he thinks Riley is fires game 3, even if he actually thinks that. https://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/football/nebraska-picked-third-in-big-ten-west-division-by-conference/article_b1f8ade1-5d42-53f0-a2fc-cd4916434e15.html The point everyone really should pay attention to in regards to this year’s comments is when he says he hasn’t really looked at the teams yet. In general, I think he’s one of the more inciteful of his type, but that’s after he does his camp tour. These comments aren’t ready for print.
