  2. And then wins the starting job away from Gebbia again.

  3. You seem to take every opportunity to talk down Vedral. I don't think that's fair. You really can't say whether he's better than McCaffrey or not at this point. McCaffrey hasn't taken a college snap yet and has only really played QB full-time for one year. Vedral saw limited action in 2017 but completed almost 76% of his passes for 9.5 ypa. Granted it was mostly mop-up duty but that was in the same offense against the same teams that McKenzie Milton completed 67% of his passes for 10.2 ypa and was 8th in Heisman voting. That doesn't mean that Vedral could/would do that here but it's still a pretty impressive stat line. Comparing him in any way to Gebbia and/or O'Brien is disingenuous.

  4. Blind side blocks are so fun! I still remember sprinting at the QB one second then seeing nothing but sky, wondering where I went wrong and why it was taking so long to hit the ground. Kenny Bell is the Last Blind Sider.

  5. In an effort to move CFB closer to flag football, there is a new rule against blind blocks this year. You cannot hit anyone with force if they are not looking at the defender. I guess no block in the back was not good enough. Can you imagine how many bad flags this creates? I want less decision making by the refs, not more.

  10. I wouldn't expect Walters to say much different. There's a big part of that that's coach speak to motivate the 2nd and 3rd string guys to be ready and be motivated because you could be thrown in at any time. But, you're telling me that when it comes out and says who the starters are, that means nothing. So, going into the first game and looking at the O line, heck, the first play could have guys that are listed as 3rd on the depth chart for all we know. Heck, we need to wait till next Saturday and see if Vedral comes out as the starting QB. Most of the time, what the coaches are getting at is, there are certain positions like WR, DB or RB that it all depends on what formation and package they start the game with. But, to say the depth chart is meaningless.....is just not so.

  11. I will bet Frank Solich's atrophied testicles that Mccaffrey redshirts this year, regardless of how much Vedral blows/how bad Martinez gets inevitably injured since you all f#&%ing jinxed it. Having Mccaffrey and Martinez stacked up as Soph/Jr would not be great. Mccaffrey would leave.

  12. At least two victories outside the state of Nebraska by 50+ points. Jonathan Taylor is held under 100 yards in Lincoln because they are forced to throw in an attempt to get back in the game after going down big. Iowa fans go from snarky about "4 in a row", to silent contemplation about what just happened and what the future holds.

  13. Frost stated in the press conference today that in future seasons he wants there to be permanent home and away Blackshirts alternates. I was just wondering what people think the away should look like since it probably can’t be a black jersey. I happen to think the logo still looks good on white: So I was thinking the away version could be black pants (with the logo somewhere) with white jersey and logo in the same spot as it is on the black jerseys. Very similar to the home alternates but throwing as many red accents in as possible.

  16. This is stupid. It would suck a$$ to take one of those hits, but those defenders were in pursuit and could have tackled the ball carrier if the blocks weren’t made.

  17. Yes. From Dirk: The whole article is grim reading. It's the 2009 Iowa State game of reading. The whole thing can be summed up with: We have, by far, been our own worst enemy when it comes to losing. And the turnover margin is a huge symptom of that.

  18. So, do you just yell "HEY IDIOT" really loud before you hit them? I have no idea how this is enforced without horrible flags.

  19. I think #2 will be situational, not necessarily talent. McCaffery is going to get his 4 games, but are you going to bring him because AM gets a cramp or has his helmet come off? I doubt it. The only way McCaffery burns the shirt is if AM get's hurt. Depth chart after #1 is meaningless at this point.

  23. Nebraska OV is the only one he has set up right now. Also looking at taking one to Oregon State. Those two contact him the most, then Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan State. Not in a hurry to commit. Wants to make sure he considers all options. Talks with Frost the most.

  27. Travel limit is 74 players for Big ten games. Your allowed more in non-conference games. ttps://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/08/27/big-ten-expands-football-travel-roster-limit-to-74-players/ I think the travel roster is not quite as static as it was in the past because of the increased number of players you can bring. This means they might switch up a player or two to reward a senior who hasn't traveled or get a true freshmen a taste of the road games or possibly if you are hit with an injury or two you now have a little more room to make adjustments. I use to watch the depth chart like a hawk but it has lost some of its importance for me personally ever since they skinnied it down to just a 2 deep. I find the travel roster to be a bit more impactful. I miss the old days. Now get off my lawn.

  28. You over-emphasize snippets to fit what you want them to say. Yes, the reason there is a formal depth chart that is released publicly is because fans and media like to look at them. But the coaches aren't just drawing names out of a hat to put on the depth chart or throwing darts at the wall to see who plays. The depth chart is a public representation of the decision-making process the coaches go through internally decide who is going to play how much and in what order.

  29. One could (and some have) say there is no reason for him to use such language at all with such a player. When it comes to Jurgens at center, “leaving it at that” has not been his MO. I’m desperately hoping whatever it is he sees that makes him continually say these things does materialize this year because if the line can gel in these first few games the sky is the limit for this offense. We have the surrounding talent to be one of the highest scoring offenses in the country if we can block people.

  31. I believe it is simply a continuation of the trend to eliminate all contact from football. No doubt in my mind that I’ll see the day where anything more than flag football is outlawed and gasped at as being barbaric. What ever happened to the player’s responsibility to keep their head up and on a swivel? At least we should still have hockey for awhile longer. And look, I realize some of these hits are dangerous but it has always been a dangerous sport. If they really want to eliminate all risks then the result is eliminating the sport. I see it going that direction.

  36. That may be what happens. Probably even likely. But no one is making a big fuss. And you definitely don't have the "facts" you claim to have. The only "facts" we have are that Vedral got recruited by this staff out of high school, has been coached by Verduzco for two years and has actually played in college games for Frost, doing very well. McCaffrey has played QB for one year plus about 35 practices in Lincoln. There are no "facts" to say Vedral is as bad as you're saying and definitely nothing worth comparing him to two guys who basically never played a down here.

  40. Adrian is a much stronger dude than he was only a year ago. And let's be honest, his injury was intentional, so a bit of a fluke. I'm looking forward to an injury free career the rest of the way. Encouraged by this strength staff.

  41. Played in 4 games with UCF. 19/22, 0 TDs, 0 INTs, 13 rushing attempts for 70 yards, 2 TDs. I think he's the clear # 2 (assuming no long term injury to Martinez, then probably McCaffrey). I think there is a degree of loyalty here as well. If it's not critical game situations, I'd think Vedral gets the nod, simply because he won't lose you the game, moved with the staff, knows the offense, etc. I got the feeling Bunch tried to transfer during the offseason and he couldn't find any takers. I wish the best for the kid, but don't think it'll be as a Husker QB.
