  1. I'm hoping this topic looks silly at the end of November, but it's worth asking about. We're 2-1 on the season. We NEED to get to a bowl game this year. The premise of this thread is that a 6-6 season won't guarantee a bowl bid. We need seven wins. That said, where are the other five wins on the schedule? How hard will it be to get there? Or if this is crazy-pants talk, tell me we've got this in the bag. For the record, based on the first 1/4 of the season, I see it panning out like this: Illinois - Win Ohio State - Loss Northwestern - Win Minnesota - Win Indiana - Win Purdue - Win Wisconsin - Loss Maryland - Win Iowa - Loss I have pretty good confidence picking wins for: Illinois, Minnesota, and Indiana. Illinois being the most confident, with Minnesota and Indiana being basically "pretty sure." I think we out-talent these teams enough that unless we royally screw up, we're not going to lose. I have pretty good confidence picking losses against: Ohio State, Wisconsin & Iowa. The Buckeyes just have too much talent, and Day has gotten their ducks in a row after last year's curious malaise under Urban. I think Wisconsin & Iowa are still just too good at what they do, too good at playing error-free ball, and too good at finishing games for me to be confident in a win. But I'm less confident we'll lose to these two than to Ohio State. That leaves Northwestern, Purdue and Maryland. I think we can beat all of these teams - should beat them. But nothing is ever easy against Northwestern, and we've lost to them three of the last four years. With Purdue, I'm just more confident in what Brohm is doing there than I am with what Fleck is doing at Minnesota, and that gives me pause. Plus with it being a road game just before Wisconsin, maybe we overlook them. Still, we have a Bye between Purdue & Wisconsin, so maybe that's an unwarranted fear. With Maryland, I just don't know what we're going to see. I don't know how they score 60+ points against two early victims, then lose to Temple. Which team do we see? I think we win, but this is also a potential look-ahead game to Iowa, who comes to Lincoln just six days after this game. So, basically, I have five wins in the bag - the two we already have, plus Illinois, Minnesota & Indiana. Maybe a couple more from Northwestern, Purdue & Maryland. I think we're going bowling. It's a question of who we beat to get there.

  3. I wouldn't argue against calling Wisconsin and Iowa losses if we played them now.... But in 2+ months? Nebraska will likely be a completely different team, specifically, on the offensive side of the ball.

  5. Just think of what Bo's career would have been if he'd been able to keep cool under pressure. His temper and thuggish antics cost him recruits, probably cost him games, and ultimately cost him his job. If you could combine the friendly demeanor of the clueless Mike Riley with the defensive coaching savvy of Pelini you'd have a helluva coach. I don't think Bo was a bad guy. He just couldn't control the demon that was his temper. He still can't. /jmho

  8. I picked all except for Ohio State and Maryland. Getting to 7 shouldn't be a thang. tOSU would be a major upset but it could happen. Im concerned about Maryland mostly because it falls between Wiscy and Iowa. I think we win 2 of those 3 because I'm hoping we have our sh#t together by that late in the season. But 5 more wins from here shouldn't be a problem. And I don't care what anyone says, we're beating Wisconsin this year and I believe we got enough more physical that slow plodding Iowa should pose no problem with our speed.

  9. I loved Bo for a long while. I’ve stated for me, just personally, when he started to track down players on the sideline and berate them for seconds or minutes on end is when I had enough. The Wisc game when followed the DB (can’t rememberwho now) from the field to the sideline to the bench and just ripped his a$$ for several minutes and left the kid with his head hung and totally deflated was enough for me. (I think when Gordon was going for a few hundy). That wasn't coaching. It was embarrassing. And demeaning. Refs and admin are one thing but to destroy a player mid game was my personal final straw. Bo was a good man overall but he let himself go in moments waaaay too far. If Frost can win soon it doesn’t matter anyway.

  15. That's false. They played one tough FCS team, the other? Georgia Southern is in the Sun Belt who's only win was against FCS Maine 28-16. I'm STILL not sold on Minnesota. Georgia Southern isn't one of the tougher Sun Belt teams. They will finish probably 3rd or 4th in their conference. Please stop trying to make them something they're not. And with a new DC they allowed 32 from Georgia Southern.

  20. It shouldn't ruin his career. But how he responds is important. I think the appropriate response for someone in that position today is to legitimately recognize that he did something stupid yesterday, in a time where a lot of people didn't understand how stupid it was. Just because it may have been more socially acceptable then doesn't make it okay, but society has evolved. We are more enlightened now and need to do better about recognizing our blind spots and confronting bias. ...something like that. The privilege that they are talking about is the ignorance of why blackface and those kinds of caricatures can be offensive, because perhaps we have never been forced to face those issues. Ignorance and privilege often go hand in hand. When I was in my early 20s, as a white middle class male, I'm sure I did and said all sorts of insensitive and offensive things, because of my own ego-centrism, because I didn't really understand the world outside of my own upbringing, etc. I bet most of us can say the same thing.

  21. Are there more Never Trump Conservatives today than there were in 2016? You'd want to think so, but something tells me the number of people voting enthusiastically for Trump and holding their nose and voting for Trump hasn't changed much. Conservatives who consider Trump a clown and an embarrassment would still marvel at the supply side economics, sweeping deregulation, social services cuts, and America first nationalism allowed to thrive under this administration. We probably shouldn't forget that this has been the Conservative endgame for years, and many of these policies are just as unseemly as Trump's personality.

  22. It's not out of spite. It's because we've let our party slide to where it is, and it needs a kick in the a$$ to make a correction. I'm already embarrassed to even ask for a Republican ballot in Omaha. edit: I can clarify my embarrassment. I don't agree with all the talking points of Dem candidates but at least they are able to attempt to support them with numbers and research. Republican candidates seem to only focus on "social media points". Not saying it won't work for most voters, but it is an insult to me. If Ben Sasse really thinks my vote depends on him selling Runzas, screw him! I couldn't care less what he does on Saturdays unless it involves him using his Senate seat to stand up to government corruption.

  25. Yah, their lack of discipline and the stupid penalties may very well cost them this game that they should’ve easily won. Maybe they can hold on for one more quarter. Normally I wouldn’t be pulling for USC but I’m (one of the few apparently) hoping for Gameday at the tOSU game.

  27. I remember watching a video where he wasn't mad at all. He was explaining things to some players and I just remember thinking that dude literally seems like he is just straight cold. Just something about him but once you saw things like I am I just mentioned it totally fits the part. Good man or not to some people I guess I think the dude seemed like ultimately he was a cancer versus being someone to truly unite and inspire his teams. Just my opinion but he definitely made my skin crawl more than one time. That video that landlord posted is further illustration that the guy clearly still has some serious issues. Even the announcer was like 'I have never seen anything like this before, ever.'

  29. This is the type of hilarious pretentious ignorance that will continue to fuel Iowa disdain for us as a fanbase and program, which will continue to fuel more like you to keep thinking of the team who has beaten us 5 years in a row as, "beneath us", which will continue to put a chip on their shoulder, and around and around it goes.

  30. Wow. Talk about taking bits and pieces of a quote way out of context to try to make a point. Meanwhile, a full quote from the Republican President in full context: https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1172853679642333185 Like I mentioned in another thread, I wish the GOP would treat me like I was smarter. Policies aside, the Democratic reps to tend to seem smarter when they speak and what they speak about. It's like Ben Sasse and other GOP reps relegating the Green New Deal to "cow farts". I'm tired of my representatives treating me like I'm a middle schooler. Grow up!

  33. Nothing wrong with that, and anyone who tries to shame you for thinking this way can eat s#!t. There's no room in an actual republic for people to put other citizens on blast for refusing to be a slave to the bad choices that the masters of the broken game are placating us with. For those that are doing it I don't think it's out of spite as much as out of a conviction that even the most incompetent Dems are preferable and better than what anyone associated with GOP practices can bring to the table. I don't share that conviction necessarily but I can see why people would think it.

  37. This is still one of the most unbelievable things I've ever seen from a coach. Have a legitimate opportunity to go 40 yards in :35 seconds to tie and go to overtime and two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties ruins their chances
