  1. It's more like I went to my Mom's for brunch every Sunday for years. Then one day she was like "You can still have the brunch, but you gotta listen to Uncle Barry tell his colonoscopy story while you eat it. Or I can charge you for it."

  3. Because you don't build a program by acting impulsively and focusing on one season at a time. There's a concept called delay discounting, which is essentially a way of looking at how big of a difference in reward do you need to push back when you would receive it. The easiest way to look at it is is time x money. So would you prefer a dollar now or 10 dollars next week. You can manipulate both the time and money components of it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_preference or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delayed_gratification So for lack of a better index, think of this like madden ratings for the players. Lets imagine player 1 is a 78 (a senior with no redshirt to burn) and player 2 is a 79 (a Freshmen with a redshirt to burn). Would you rather have the change in 1 improvement now or another season when the freshmen is at their best (maybe an 89 Senior) but that's 4 seasons away? The team is essentially doing this math based on the differences between players now, how they project the players, the current other depth on the roster, etc. It's easy for us as fans to say start the best player no matter what. Personally, I'd rather have the best product a few years from now.

  4. Cool that's great! Guess what you can't go lose to Minnesota at Minnesota like you are a division 2 school trying to collect a check. You don't want this kind of criticism, then don't look like a bunch of punks in game 19. I don't care if it's 160 freshman, that was an unacceptable game and all of the criticism is warranted. People keep trying to redirect the criticism. Every single time Nebraska gets on the field it's important, and it sure looked like our team didn't think it was that important.

  5. Oklahoma OL as prospects LT .89 - 4* LG .90 - 4* C .89 - 4* RG .95 - 4* RT .89 - 4* Nebraska OL as prospects LT .87 - 3* LG .76 -2* (walk on) C .92 - 4* (tight end) RG .85 - 3* RT .89 - 4* (widely regarded as G prospect) The two players we're replacing as prospects. Jerald Foster .89 - 4* Tanner Farmer .90 - 4* If only there was some deference between these two scenarios... Also of note, only one of these players was recruited by Frost in his transition class.

  8. Good luck to the Huskers the rest of this season, my hoops season starts this week so I am in the gym for 5 months! I hope Hoiberg has a great season as well...... and Dvdcrr, I do well for myself for not being able to read or write.

  9. It’s interesting to me how so many people that are slamming NBA players for not standing up for Democracy in China, are totally okay with our President actively subverting Democracy in the US.

  10. Also the best high school lineman are going to mostly play tackle. It's the harder position to find guys for, and in high school you can get away with tackles who don't have the size to play tackle in college. Doesn't mean they can't be great guards.

  14. I guess I’m in the minority here. I don’t actually expect to see improved play when we plug in the freshmen. They will get meaningful snaps while preserving their redshirt (win-win) but they will make mistakes and commit penalties due to inexperience. Based on statistics others have shared, we literally can’t get much worse in some areas so I don’t expect to see a big drop off in play either. Do most of you really think that the younger players have been outperforming the upperclassmen in practice but the coaches haven’t played them because they want to preserve their redshirt? I’m just not sure.

  15. This is also assuming that the coaching staff is going to develop these players on a "normal" timeline. Putting a lot of eggs in the Greg Austin basket

  17. Got it, think I misunderstood what you were arguing anyway. Yeah, I don't think talent is the reason we gave up 300 rushing yards to Minnesota. You can argue execution vs. coaching, and at some point execution is on the coaches. I'm still giving them a little bit of a pass because I think Barry and Honas are who they are, and Miller still looks like he's learning LB. I assume they are trying to coach the over-pursuit out of them, I'm just not holding my breath it'll happen after a year and a half of it. If it continues to be a problem with the next round of LBs, I'll have some coaching concerns.

  18. I looked up the recruiting profiles on 24/7 Sports for Wisconsin's starting four linebackers: -Zack Baun, OLB: 6'3, Redshirt Senior --> 3*, .84 -Chris Orr, ILB: 6'0, Redshirt Senior --> 3* .82 -Jack Sanborn, ILB: 6'2, Sophomore --> 4*, .89 -Noah Burks, OLB: 6'3, Junior --> 3*, .87 This is not an incredibly talented group of guys. They are 75% upperclassmen...but they're not a very talented group. And in addition, they don't have really tall outside guys; they don't exceed 6'3. So there's no argument that they're these big monster hybrid body types that are just freaks of nature. They're well-coached and well-disciplined. What other explanation is there?

  20. While I agree this kid is truly a Guard who just plays tackle because in HS he is considered big and taller than once he goes D1. Jaimes should be a RT and Farniok should be a Guard. That's what no depth will do to a team

  21. For a variety of reasons, the best offensive linemen in high school play tackle. The top 5 OGs in the 247 Composite all play tackle for their high school. All four NFL All-Pro OGs played OT in high school and three of them played OT in college as well.

  22. PJ Fleck said in the post game that they felt if they could get our DL moving sideways, then our LBs wouldn't fit their gaps right. Boy did that turn out to be right, and lack of instincts in our LBs is the glaring weakness of our D

  23. That would be man coverage. Ideally at some point they recognize it's a run, but with an RPO/play action heavy team they have to be a little cautious. In most defenses they are only cleanup guys anyway, if they need to be the ones to make a tackle someone else is doing a bad job.

  24. Nobody is talking about getting rid of Frost. People are disappointed, and rightfully so, of the product we see on the field. The offense has regressed badly since the second half of last season and Frost is supposed to be an offensive guru. There is no arguing that. I'm also a little annoyed with the Riley hate. Sure he never should have been hired which I said from day 1. But blaming him for this team is bogus. The whole nobody lifted weights and everybody is soft because of ice cream days is pockyc$%k. Everybody wants to make excuses for Frost because he's from Nebraska. Would a Coach Frost from Waco, Texas be getting this same unwavering support while delivering a second straight 4-8 season? I highly doubt it.

  26. So why wasn't this instituted in training camp? Or before every game or at every single practice? Shouldn't even need to be said
    3 points
  27. This is true, and we need to stick by Frost for atleast 5 more years. But so far him and his staff have not done a great job. They are a young staff, and are learning things as they go. But we have been outcoached more often than not, the players dont seem to be developing very well, and our skill guys are getting killed.... Wandale, Martinez, Vedral, Spielman, Washington are all hurt to some degree, and its not just bad luck. All season these guys have looked like they are about to get hurt. You could almost see it coming. Part of that is on coaching.

  28. It's a crisis for sure. Frost can't perform miracles, but the fact he is flawed, is unsettling

  29. This fire Chinander stuff is bulls#!t. The defense had a bad game, but more often than not has carried our team. How can the same people wanting Chinander gone, not want our Offensive Coordinator gone? Or our O line coach? Or our receivers coach? Our offense is what has been pathetic, not our defense.

  30. I think he is going all in to get 2 wins to be bowl eligible. Not out of desperation, but necessity. I think he realizes what he “has” isn’t what he “needs”, Play for a bowl, the extra practices and re-enforce the Nebraska way. The starters have had 7 games.....And he’s having to go back to the basics. Again, I think the staff have culpability, but if fans can see lack of effort, no doubt the staff does as well. Maybe take a note from TO’s playbook. Run a “limited” number of plays to flawless execution through multiple formations. We we will know in 2 weeks. Heal up, buy in and be ready!

  31. We're not quite a mess. We're not good, but there is coaching stability for the foreseeable future. Even if there is assistant turnover, we'll do whatever it takes to keep Fisher imo.

  32. For what it's worth I understand the concept of how ads work and why they're needed for business models. I also understand that when something is free, I'm the product, not the free thing I'm getting. That being said, whenever news organization websites or sport sites or whatever these days pop up telling me to disable my adblocker, I generally just close that and figure out somewhere else to get what I want without having to deal with it. And I don't think I'm alone in that. So good luck with the not at all subtle shift in approach with this board and the way it's attempting to be profitable.

  33. The analogy that I use is do you take your bacon and eggs into the restaurant and ask them to cook it for free? Tolerating ads is all this restaurant is asking for in exchange for being the restaurant where you can have your bacon and eggs for free since the ads are paying for your meal.

  36. That was in response to why Tannor was setting the edge - who else do we have to do that? Alex Davis sure, I think that's actually who it is in the screenshot. But everyone else at OLB is about as small as Tannor. I guess Garrett Nelson is bigger and getting some playing time, but our other OLBs with the size they want aren't ready yet.

  38. Slightly inaccurate seeing as oklahoma has a .98 5* from 2018, in the last two classes Oklahoma signed a 5*, 4 4*s and 3 3*s. Frost signing those type of numbers is what is needed. I knew you'd bring up the lower guys, atm they are underrated gems but if they don't work in a couple years then you'll say well they were just low 3*s what did you expect.

  39. They are looking for a sound bite. Give it to them, but not the one they are looking for. I even criticize Bernie for this framing. Will you raise taxes on the middle class? No, it will be a tax break for the middle class. How so? I am getting rid of “private taxes” in the form of premiums, deductibles and copayments and raising public taxes. At the end of the day, 90%+ of Americans save money. Thats a tax break. Watch their jaws drop after that.

  41. Honestly year 3 is probably asking for too much as well. The offensive line probably won’t be where it should for another couple of years. Until guys like Benhart, Corcoran, Piper and Jurgens are somewhat experienced and further developed, we won’t be that good upfront. You have to hope some of those sophomores further develop as well. Maybe they aren’t that good right now but by the time they are seniors they will be very experienced and further developed. Heck maybe guys like Lynn and Conn may prove to be darn good as well in time? At worst we actually have a little more quality depth.

  44. Right? It has long bothered me to no end how arrogant these corrupt criminals are in thinking that because they are famous and close to the administration that somehow the law doesn't affect them. Toss even one of them in the clink and the rest of the rats will panic - and hopefully scurry to comply with the law again.
