  1. For me, this season has been very eye opening with regard to the players on the team and player management. While our recruiting hasn't been bad lately, our turnover is absurd. I think most of it makes sense, that is to say I'm not concerned, but I think I had been optimistic than was warranted. My concerns focused a lot on the lines, I regularly came to the board to argue this, but the numbers overall are rough. I'm not going to look at 2019's class yet, but the three classes before that were hit hard. 2015: Many players gone via graduation these are the RS SRs. But for context, on D or O, we have 5 of these guys on the 2 deep, one of which is a walk-on. 2016: 13 of 21 players from the class are still around (rJR or SR) 12 on the 2 deep 2017: 10 of 20 (rSO or JR) 8 on the 2 deep 2018: 15 of 24 (rFr or SO) 9 on the 2 deep (subject to change) 2019: Still being evaluated (Fr) 4 on the 2 deep Left out transfers and Juco guys. That's 58% roughly of the classes still playing for us. That's adding 38 scholarship players over the 3 years that should be making up the core of our team. Notably these players were recruiting to play other positions frequently. It feels like skill players have by and large been able to navigate this better, but it's certainly a problem as it relates to our line play and our LB. While I don't think I have any huge point to make, I think it's important that we take performance in context. The top FR and SO in the country can come in and start, we're not able to recruit those guys in a consistent way. We're going to be more of a Wisconsin style team in our recruiting than a Bama. That means we should see lots of RS JRs and above starting for us, with the occasional FR and SO doing work. I think realistically what that means is we've got another year or 2 of inconsistent play in the fold as we fix the culture and get the right players. It was never an overnight fix. It just happens to be worse than most of us anticipated.

  3. In these numbers lies the painful realization that even though we have more 4 and 5 star players on the team, the coaching staff has not been able to get the best out of them whereas Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota seem to be able to get much more from their players. I like Frost and have no doubt he is the best fit for us right now but it is obvious that his supporting cast of coaches are not doing a good job. He needs to evaluate his coaching staff and ask them why they are not able to compete with teams that have much lesser talent. For starters, Verduzco sounds arrogant and incompetent from his comments. I feel that Martinez regressing is a direct consequence of Verduzco coaching him.

  4. I think there might be some surprisingly good results on the recruiting trail as Frost continues. Getting guys like Benhart and Corcoran is big. And Beckton is doing a nice job so far recruiting Florida and Georgia.

  5. JoJo Domann had some pretty pointed comments on the Carriker Chronicles on Wednesday: When ask how he would grade their season so far JoJo said “I’d give us a C.” He went on to say “We’re proficient. We know how to do our jobs...” “We definitely have that next gear that we need to hit as a unit, and that’s going to come with guys filling out, guys being committed, guys being dedicated day in and day out, not just excited to put on the Nebraska uniform on Saturday to run out the tunnel. Guys that are about the process and guys that love football and are hungry, and once we have guys like that, the sky’s the limit.” You read that right... “And once we have guys like that...” The culture is worse than we ever knew and it is going to take time to cleanse. People need to slow down with expectations, including (especially) myself. 6 wins should be the goal. I had hoped they were in a better position to be successful, but hearing that there continues to be a buy in problem from a player that has heart is gut wrenching. Get those who don’t care the he11 out of there. https://www.omaha.com/sports/college/huskers/carriker/carriker-chronicles-jojo-domann-on-nebraska-s-goals-going-forward/article_b1449e37-c5fd-5ffb-901e-6600e0de70d8.html

  7. Yep 100%. Look at that 2017 class where all 4 LBs are now gone. One of the weakest links of our team.

  9. That list really shows the lack of talent this team has. Out of these upperclassmen Jackson's the only one that has a chance to make an all conference team this year and even though his play has improved he still is allergic to contact sometimes.

  10. Position confidence (1-10 scale): QB - 9...premier QB for this system. Has told a lot of "Big Boys" not to waste their time. RB - 8....two studs. Talk of maybe getting one more, which Held has proven he could do. WR - 6.5...sitting at a boom or bust point seems like. If Betts qualifies, two of Manning/Robinson/Bunkley-Shelton commit this moves to a 9/10. If Betts doesn't qualify and/or we miss out on those three this could be a 5/6. TE - 8....I'd honestly pass on taking one and use the scholly elsewhere. 8 is only because we don't need one, so getting one would just be a bonus. Oline - 7....Love Corcoran and like Conn. 7 is probably the floor here because of those two. Could move up with a good interior guy. NT - 7....Love Nash, interested in Black. Probably done here, just need to hold onto Black. DE - 4....Lynch seems like a solid/real option but hasn't visited yet. Malani/Tuipulotu are taking west coast visits. If we grab Lynch and one of them probably sitting at a 6.5. Lot of work to do here. ILB - 4....we all know the situation here. Started with plenty of targets, they are slowly slimming. We still have some interest. Are they window shoppers or can we seal the deal. Bryant-strother and Tisdol/Curtis would be huge. Mister Williams still out there too. OLB - 6.5....same boat as WR except Blaise will qualify. Blaise is a stud. Terry/Ivey would be decent. Johnson/Kinsler are what we need. Grab those last two and that room flips in a hurry. DB - 7.....Gray is a good get. I really like Delancy. Who knows with Lynum. Need 1-2 more. Fish can recruit and has multiple 4 stars still interested.

  11. Fun stats time, total number of Jr or Sr 4 or 5 star players to total on the team: Nebraska 8 out of 20 (DD transfer, Green JUCO, Raridon little playing time) Illinois 6 out of 12 (All 6 upper classman transfered in) Wisconsin 4 out of 9 Iowa 2 out of 7 Minnesota 2 out of 5 (St-Juste Transfer) Northwestern 1 out of 3 Purdue 0 out of 5

  15. You also have to wonder if Frost would have brought in the Riley 4 stars, so while we do have some talent, it’s not talent hand picked to be in Frost’s system. Also 4 of those guys are DBs which is probably are strongest unit! My gut feeling is in 4 years, when we look at the high 3* and 4* guys Frost has brought in, this conversation is going to go very differently.

  18. No absolutely not, that should not be the expectation. I don't ever expect a team who is more talented to get crushed 34-0 by Minnesota. It's unacceptable. Secondly, this is the exact same mantra we here by everyone each time there's a new coach, get Callahan's losers out of here because they don't know what Nebraska was about and we will win titles, get Bo's "toxic" (which was BS) dudes out of here for this great genius who has never won and we will win titles, now get these Riley dudes out of here because they don't love football and won't play hard and we will win titles. The constant circle of that is infuriating, you need to get what you got playing better then they are playing right now. Our little recruiting rankings say we should beat these guys, making into some it's some players vs other players on our own team excuse is tired. If that even is possibly true then it's failure in that aspect of coaching.

  30. So this is the 8 players: Eric Lee, Avery Anderson, Lamar Jackson, John Rairdon, Marquel Dismuke, Matt Farniok, Darion Daniels(first year in program), and Green(who is redshirting). To me it seems like at least this staff is getting the most that they can out of these players.

  31. That could win 9 games right now...... hmmm they probably would have had a way better team but that's besides the point. Even with attrition, just another excuse for you talent excuse people, we still have more star players! We have more stars on the field then Minnesota, Colorado and Indiana. Still you will fall back on talent, which we have more of.

  32. No one said anything about getting rid of anyone. Nothing at all in any of that, I am allowed to have concerns in game 20 about the simplistic aspects of football that aren't being done, that I feel should have already been corrected.

  33. I wonder how many of those players that are left are also the higher rated players. Seems like a lot of players that left are the higher rated ones: Gebbia, POB, Lindsey, KJJ, Avery Roberts, Cam'ron Jones were all 4 stars iirc.

  34. Exactly! Frost has been telling us the knowledge of the assignments is there, which is what you see in practice. The ability to execute (especially on the O-line and linebacker, inside and outside, positions) against high level competition in games is where we are lacking.

  35. I had to look up your reference...pretty sure I didn't see/remember that one... I work with several MAGA types, and while misguided regarding Trump, they all certainly love and respect their Country. Most believe it is the far left that have no respect for America, and want to wipe out most of the Country's history. Perspective/viewpoint differences don't automatically make one side or the other right.

  37. Frost has made it clear in just about every interview that the team has a long ways to go to get to where he wants them. You can have a good practice but still need to improve a lot in toughness and the mental side of the game.

  38. I agree with some on this board that stated that this game is a very important game for us. It is a litmus test of our ability to rebound and right the ship when we have been kicked in the balls. If we lose this game in a similar fashion to our loss to the gophers, it will have huge ramifications in terms of recruiting and our chances to get to the toilet bowl. All the pressure is on us. Indiana will not have any pressure as going 5-3 does not ruin their chances at going bowling. They still have several possible wins ahead of them. For us, this game is more important than a bowl game. With all the issues surrounding this football program, we need a win to help us make sense of things again.

  39. Very 1st game I went to was with my Dad a week after Osborne finally got his first win over Switzer...We lost to Mizery. While I was a student, I mainly took pictures of my cousin playing or sold my tickets for gas money. Last game I watched in person was the 0-19 debacle here in Tempe when Frost was our QB '96?.. I think I'm 0 for my last 5 also..That was one of the reasons I didn't go inside the stadium when we had that nail biter over Florida here back in '95...Just tailgated with my Siberian Husky and saw almost a dozen old classmates (Holdrege High)...Brought my sled dog so I wouldn't be so tempted to get tickets from a scalper and ruin our chances on the grass.

  40. IMHO, this game will tell us more about this team than any one this season. I think it will also tell us the trajectory of this season leading into next. If we come out flat/lose after the a$$ kicking from Minnie and a 2 week bye we are in trouble. And will show Frost has a bigger mess on his hands and even less answers than he had starting the season. Players might start doubting the staff and process. Win (and I think it's possible), it shows that Frost can get the guys ready, they trust the process and each other. Frost and Co can adjust. Can teach. If the freshman play and do well, proof recruiting is working and the right guys are coming in. To the OP, fragile bowl is correct, but for us. I don't think Indiana feels the pressure that the team, Frost and NU fans do...NU REALLY needs this win..

  42. As a coach, you also don't want to tell the media and the fans, "Yeah, our guys looked like s#!t all week and we're going to lose this next game." so I'm not sure what exactly fans think they are supposed to say.
