  1. We’re so boned at LB recruiting from these past few years I don’t think it matters who is teaching/calling plays. Giffords little brother needs to get offered already.

  2. Kid is already a hero in the city, he's getting touches, we are building the team around him. Really, couldn't be going any better for him at this point outside of our shoddy record, but he's in the locker room, he knows what is going on and he is in the practices and sees the young talent coming. He's a smart kid and level headed and I just can't seem him jetting.. He's poised to be the face of the program for the next 3 years.

  3. We started the year with a Heisman contention quarterback and a top 25 ranking, based on the combination of talent and coaching, and the culture change that supposedly clicked in last years strong finish, plus new frost recruits and proven transfers coming in. im still looking for someone who recognized how bare the cupboard was 10 weeks ago and warned us to not even expect bowl worthiness.

  5. Yep! Haha. Those two guys got massive amounts of s#!t on this board. Now they're basically former All-Americans.

  6. I'm not starting a new thread, too many of those already. This is TL;DR, Venting What a disaster. Seriously, it's bad enough we lose our home and home against woefully bad Buffaloes. It's bad enough we get murdered on national TV on a huge platform. It's bad enough and overrated Minnesota slaps us around. But now, in back to back games, we have blown EASY and WINNABLE games to the two worst teams in Indiana. We can't go bowling, even if we manage to somehow stumble into a win versus pitiful Maryland. We have less than zero shot of beating Wisconsin and Iowa. We are staring down the barrel of a 3rd straight 4-8 season. This isn't acceptable by any means. This schedule looks worse and worse as the weeks pile on, and we have gone above and beyond to look worse and worse as the weeks pile on. This staff isn't clicking. The team is a mess at every level. I have no faith in any of them to piece together a game I can enjoy watching the rest of this awful season. I've never hated watching Nebraska as much as I do this year. I finally thought I could let my guard down, get excited, be proud to wear red, look forward to the rankings, speculate on post season. But no, this team is so freaking bad it's not even remotely debatable. Scott has lost control of this thing already somehow. People need to go and fast. I'm all in with Frost, but at this point it's because there are literally no other choices. I'm beyond disappointed. I haven't TRULY enjoyed watching this team play since November of 2014, that's 5 effing years during a stretch where I warmed up to firing the coach I was all in on. In that time this program has made so many piss poor choices and finally got one right and it's too late. We aren't the new Minnesota, we're the new Kansas. Get this s#!t fixed.

  8. Preemptive apologies for starting a new thread about a well worn topic, but I wanted to share my thoughts without feeling like I have to choose a side. I find it interesting that people claim that if Frost can’t fix it...then no one can and the program is dead. Nebraska will always thirst for a football team to root for, and if/when a team shows any amount of promise...the entire fan base will be galvanized and line up to support them. Frost’s first two seasons are disappointing. There really is nothing more than conjecture and unfounded optimism that suggests this is all part of a larger rebuilding plan. Things have gone poorly. This team has played poorly. And yes this coach is responsible for all of it. That being said, in this world of meaningless contracts and instant gratification...I believe we roll with Frost through his contract. Perhaps he is not a miracle worker, and maybe his early success had less to do with how perfect the coaching staff was than everyone thought. If you believe that Frost is a smart, passionate coach who can inspire young athletes...then maybe what we have is merely a guy who can become a great head coach one day. He loves this program/state/university, and I believe him when he staunchly states that he will not rest until he gets it right. Maybe he needs to recruit different athletes, or overhaul his scheme, or replace some of his staff. Whatever he has to do, I believe his passion for the program will always win out. He doesn’t appear to be waiting for another opportunity....this is it. In my opinion, he won’t forsake the team in favor of professional loyalty, intellectual stubbornness, etc. i wont say that I promise he’ll get it right in 7 years, but maybe it would be all that more rewarding to watch Frost develop into a better head coach wearing a red hoodie. I’m willing to take the ride, support the program...bitch and moan with every loss, knowing that the guy in charge lives and dies more than I do with every game. Maybe he’s not the right guy, but I’m willing to wait a few more years to find out.

  9. They won the fiesta bowl two years before they went 0-12. We have had 3 recruiting classes (16,17, 18) that have been extremely poor. This is a far bigger project than UCF.

  10. I'm still on the Frost bandwagon. SF has about as good a football resume as someone his age could possibly accumulate. Sure we suck this year. And last. But it's not like he forgot how to coach. It's just taking longer to turn this thing around than was originally thought. Have patience.

  11. If the players can't perform what is being asked, is it really that good schematically? And the play calling was just horrible. Frost was trying to prove how smart he was instead of just calling simple plays to score.

  12. We have some guys who are starters -- or at least seeing significant playing time -- who have no business being on the field. Even the commentators were mentioning certain guys yesterday. What's even more disheartening was hearing Frost say that the defense played well enough to win yesterday. I couldn't believe what I was hearing; it was a clear attempt to deflect blame from Chinander. This tells me that Frost is going to let his loyalty to his friends come before what's best for the program.

  13. Martinez failing to make the plays necessary to win isn’t a play calling issue- that’s a player issue. How many times was someone wide open and the throw wasn’t made or how many times did Martinez have room to run and he chose to throw an ill advised pass instead? I liken Martinez to the kid who stays up for 2 days to study for the final. He tries so hard to be ready, but when he gets there, he biffs it big time. Now on the defensive side of the ball, I saw drives where we did well. The frustrating thing for me is having a 3rd strong QB be able to lead their team on a game winning TD drive, and seeing us being destroyed by middle throws, continuing to play man coverage when we should have been in zone. That is a coaching problem. But you have to remember where these coaches came from... Memphis best SMU last night 56-48, so they are used to having a D that can give up points, but having an offense that can overcome that- we can’t. The fact we weren’t in zone on that last defensive play is infuriating. The fact the staff didn’t tell him to take a knee and save time on he clock on the ensuing kickoff is infuriating. These are coaching errors that need fixed, as is not using that timeout on the 4th down. I don’t think this coaching staff is a lost cause, but I do think that because of a lack of talent and because we have players not making plays, they are probably stumped on how to get the results seen in practice on the field. There were times in the beginning of the Osborne era where people called for him to be canned, and aren’t we glad they didn’t listen? It’s okay to be frustrated. It’s okay to be pissed. Losing games we should have won is never fun. But for those calling for Frost’s head... have some patience, and give it time. Eichorst and Riley damaged Husker football in serious and insidious ways, and removing that level of toxicity from our program takes time... so give it to him. 2 years is nowhere near enough time. The bottom line is this: Scott Frost is as much an investment to this program as any of our players. He’s young and new to head coaching. He needs to learn. He needs to do better. There isn’t anyone out there who I would trust more for this job than Frost. He has more heart than any coach we could hire for this job, and he has a desire to bring Nebraska back. Maybe we should trust him to make the changes, get the players he wants in here, and let him. P.S.- There are positives to be taken from this game, too. Snaps were MUCH better. OL play was much better overall. And when is the last time Nebraska had 3 QBs who could all be starters? Progress is being made. Don’t let the loss give you Husker vision.

  14. I'll make sure to quote you when we recruit another top 20 class this year which will be the first time we have done that since Osborne but yea, can't attract talent to pur bottom program

  15. The eye test sometimes is much better than the stats. If he wouldn’t have been so indecisive and ran with a motive, we win that game. He was off on a lot of throws.

  19. People said that about the offensive line after foster and farmer graduated.

  20. I don't know how Frost will handle it, but I am on board with offensive execution being an issue yesterday. Martinez missed on way too much. Frost's scheme is good. The execution is not. Frost mentioned the missed throws in the presser, but he wisely said he needed to look at the film so as not to throw Martinez under the bus.

  21. This is the same coaching staff that had success at Central Florida - which by the way are still pretty good. Nebraska can't keep firing coaches every few years - we need stability. We will have to see how Frost handles adversity. The real problem is the talent on the lines which will take time to fix.

  23. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This. For god's sake, this.^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ "UCF had to score 50 points or more to be their toughest competition in most games. " And Frost brought that crew up here and guess what we see: Husker football incapable of scoring enough to cover what our Chinander-run defense gives up.

  26. There is no excuse losing to a 2-6 team who has been hurt with injuries to have the 3rd string QB lead the game winning drive and then Bell comment they had watched UCF film to see how to beat us on that TD.........
    3 points
  27. I say this because it looks nothing like UCF. Maybe it's the lack of OL, loss of Farmer, Foster, Oz and Stan. AM has regressed. Athletes better in the B1G. I no longer see the up tempo. I see the O get to the LOS, look to the sidelines and go from there. I see little of the motions and shifts we saw last year. I see our points per game less than last year, yardage less etc......I see a complete inability to complete simple swing passes, to use the TE's.....All staples in UCF scheme.... IMHO, and again, it's an opinion Frost needs to adapt to the B1G. I am still waiting for the power part to catch up to what he wants. IMHO, our O under Noah against Indiana looked the best it has all year. 500 plus yards, balanced between pass/run. We went 24-27, a single game Husker record. TBH, that could be lack of film on Noah, simplified game plan ie less reads more run... In the pressers I see a frustrated Frost. A guy who is trying to figure why the wheels have fallen off. I think Frost is the right coach to turn this around. If not him, who? I am not sold on his staff nor scheme in it's entirety. Doesn't mean some or a lot of scheme/staff can't work, but he really needs to re-evaluate moving into next season. Lastly I see a "system" that is now 27-20 as a HC with the 13-0 UCF season looking like the outlier.

  28. Let's take the example of Chinander as D Coordinator. If he had a long history of running successful defenses at other teams, I am completely on board with saying he needs to be given more time. But he has been a defense for only 3+ seasons and has never led a top 20 stout defense. UCF had to score 50 points or more to be their toughest competition in most games. Thus, if I am Frost and evaluating where I want to take this program, I would be asking myself if Chinander is the long-term answer to making Nebraska's defense great again. Having a few more recruits is not going to solve the poor defensive play calling against Indiana where he failed to blitz as a means to overcome the weakness on the D-line. We all watched as the Hoosier QB had all the time in the world to pass and beat our secondary.

  29. I keep thinking back to week 1 when the TV announcers said Verduzco said he completely overhauled Martinez's passing mechanics in the offseason. If there was ever a QB coming out of high school that didn't need his mechanics tinkered with it was Martinez. I know we're supposed to love Verduzco because he's a wacky character, but he might be the reason Martinez is wildly inaccurate now.

  30. That is the gameplan, the O just hasn't been executing early in games, or sometimes late in games. Both sides of the ball seem to always show up for a time and disappear in another, usually at the worst possible moment. Realistically we should be 7-2 right now if we could play consistently.

  31. We just lost to Purdue's backups, after they limped into the game at 2-6. It's probably worse than we think.

  32. It's a small sample, but the offense looked much more dynamic with Vedral and McCaffery against Indiana. Indiana doesn't rank out well defensively, but the offense looked so much more explosive than it did this week, and I think it was in large part because the QBs were a run threat. Adrian is more gunshy to take off and run when the pass isn't on Now he doesn't and shouldn't bare the full brunt of the blame; the offensive line is weak and the playcalling has been subpar. This game could have been wrapped up earlier had Nebraska scored 20+ on all the drives they had that started in plus territory. Instead, Frost rolled out some of the most bizarre playcalling which resulted in just 3 points scored when starting in plus territory. That's unacceptable and Frost should take accountability for that. The players were not put in position to win and when they were, they didn't execute. It's a sign of a dysfunctional poorly coached team that has trotted itself out there the past 4 years. This senior class are some of the most losingest players in Nebraska history and they play like it.

  35. Purdue WR Bell said on the last TD they had watched UCF film and new that Chin goes man in the red zone. Knew we'd key on the QB and that he'd be good...... We are 109th in red zone D.....Maybe, just maybe Chin needs to realize that his D completely sucks in the B1G. Indiana also attacked our D by getting mismatches with their WR/RB to get covered by a ILB.......Same think Purdue did...And Chin really didn't adjust. IMHO, the staff is so young an inexperienced they do not have a deep well of knowledge/experience to draw from....They know "their system" and not much else. And it shows. On O and D...

  36. You will always find it here. Especially those with thousands of posts who believe that any opinion different from theirs is trolling or looking to start trouble. Face it folks, we are in the middle of a dumpster fire (again) but since it is Scotty Frosty, he gets a pass.

  37. Forgot who it was post game. Maybe Tillman or Bush, but to paraphrase...On defense regardless of scheme/athleticism you have to play your gaps......We are just a poorly coached, no acountability team

  39. That’s it. The fact other teams watch 2016-17 film from UCF to prepare for 2019 NU is a tell. Coach Osborne was one of the greatest play callers, in his later years, college football has ever seen. His ability to prepare and adjust in-game was set apart. Scott should glean from these characteristics. I hope those two are talking fine details to this regard. How to adapt - play calling, recruiting...situational leadership. Team loading the box? Counters and triple O pass plays to keep em honest. Too slow? Recruit speed and keep your trench power advantage. Scott’s ability to adapt and learn will be key in NU recovering its brand.
