Weird how these threads didn't pop up last year when Minnesota was 7-6 and we beat them by four scores.9 points

Why does it bother you to look at other schools in similar situations as Nebraska but are doing better? I look at it to say ok so does the excuses we hear about why we suck if other programs and coaches are making progress hold any water.6 points

Is this board going to go thru every school that has changed coaches recently and create a thread on how they are doing so well while Nebraska is sucking?5 points

Things really changed for them when Fleck fired his DC. Now they have a chance to compete in the B10.5 points

I will be happy when all the Riley players are gone. I'm so tired of hearing about culture. I wonder if fans of other teams with new coaches talk about culture as much as we do.5 points

I see them week in week out playing toe to toe with the best teams the BIG 12 has to offer. It’s year 1 for the new regime, you can’t tell me they have better talent than us. Any insight?3 points

Minny and Illinois are really hating the idea of rebuilding a culture by throwing their young pups to the wolves the last two years. So have plenty of other teams.3 points

Here’s a model Check your fancy play calling...when you can put a team away. Manage the clock properly. Run a 4-3 Defense Get off the field on 3rd and long. Stop someone on their final possession. Start there! Then worry about culture.3 points

Keep in mind that EVERY party and candidate platform is stuffed with lofty ideology that is more aspirational than achievable. You aim high and prepare for the forces of moderation to whittle you down. If you aim high enough, the compromise might still be worth something. Starting at the center is the recipe for defeat. I think the understandable but inaccurate assumption of many Americans is that these Big Left ideas are taxpayer giveaways. They aren't. They're pretty smart investments that could have large returns across the board. Even Big Business could benefit directly from Free Tuition, renewable energy and immigration reform. They'd have to suck it up and endure some regulatory and corporate tax loophole reform, but they've been there before and managed to profit nicely. It's kinda crazy that the Green New Deal doesn't make the list. Almost nothing on the list matters if the climate continues to change at this rate. Gen Z and the Millennials will be asked to live through this, and they are genuinely pissed at the Boomer's priorities.3 points

Riley was a half-assed career .500 coach. His only specialties were being a nice guy and creating ten-ply soft ball players. What on God’s green earth makes you think giving him more time would’ve helped jack sh#t? He had about 50 friggin years in the profession and never amounted to sh#t. One year was too much time. He should’ve never been allowed to coach at Nebraska, Oregon State fine, but not here.2 points

Time is the most precious thing we have and no one knows how much of it we have. Id like to see good quality football in my lifetime again.2 points

Both Fleck and Frost are great coaches. Why did we beat nearly the same Minnesota team by 4 scores last year? Buying in to a culture mean everything. PJ and Scott would both tell you the same thing. For those seeking instant gratification - get lost. Nobody wants your whining a$$ on the board anyway. This is going to take time.2 points

Frost just needs a better slogan. No fear of failure has back fired.2 points

THIS! The fact that this is an actual thread topic on huskerboard is f#$%ing embarrassing. I'm sure Riley is to blame though.2 points

I can see this, especially coming from a laid back, Mike Riley culture. O'Leary was an a$$, but in terms of accountability his mindset was just about opposite of Riley. So at UCF I'm guessing it was a lot easier to turn over responsibility to the players - because they were recruited and coached into a culture of accountability from day 1. Frost doesn't have that luxury here. This isn't passing the blame either, it's on Frost to diagnose that and fix that. And I agree with you on the veteran coordinator thing - this is a different rebuild then UCF - it requires different pieces - and I think you nailed the glaring omission.2 points

This team isnt winning another game. I'm hoping to see a lot of attrition in the off season2 points

Back during the time after we fired Pelini. I was all on the Fleck train, with every goofy antic he has. He's a players coach. Plus building Western Michigan is 100 times more impressive than UCF, considering the geographics. That statement is by no means ill will toward Frost. I think he's the right guy as I was all about him coming home too, but i'd like to see him bring energy by changing up the assistants some. I'd also like to see him go out and get some analysts like other schools do by bringing in former head coaches. I mean Butch Jones is at Alabama! Schiano is at OSU. I get the sense that Frost is a control guy though, and that he doesn't want others opinion. (totally unfounded comment and completely non factual opinion)2 points

I'm engaged and willing to give Frost the benefit of the doubt for now. The offensive woes this year were totally unexpected but may well be an anomaly. Far beyond the end of my patience with Chinander. That thing isn't working and there isn't any good evidence it ever will.2 points

Hmm... Sagarin, FPI, and SP+ have Nebraska at 60, 59, and 50, respectively, and Oregon State at 64, 63, and 59, respectively. I think it would be more accurate to say that both teams are in a Riley-esque place, and trying to escape.2 points

Sometimes it is abundantly clear, and quickly so, why the ignore/block function is so necessary.2 points

I don't think it's stupid at all. Had the boosters left things alone, Diaco would never have lived in Lincoln. Think of the 2017 season, what was the biggest problem? Riley or Diaco's matador defense? That team would have gone bowling with Banker as the DC IMHO. Last season would have been Gebbia throwing to Spielman, Tyjon Lindsey and probably Isiah Hodgins and Jamire Calvin. The hiring of Diaco set a lot of things in motion. None of them good.2 points

Oregon State has long had better coaches and played against much tougher rivals than N. If you played in the Pac 8-10-12 with your coaching and recruiting you would have a worse track record and a more realistic view of your place in college football as a has been. Jonathan Smith is OSU's scott frost, and has them looking better every week. N not so much. Proof would have been obvious by now if frost was the real deal, but keep hoping for next year.2 points
