  1. With Burrow having a fantastic year for LSU, it seems fans wanting to bitch about Frost and how he’s a terrible coach and how this season sucks are using this as another opportunity to point this out. Yes, NU has sucked this year. Yes, Frost and his staff deserve blame for that. However, Burrow kicking a$$ at LSU has nothing to do with NU’s lack of success this year and any blame on put on Frost for not trying to bring him in as a transfer in 2018 is pure hindsight. Burrow not coming to NU out of high school was Bo’s/Beck’s fault. They didn’t recruit him very hard/at all. When Burrow was looking to transfer, he was looking for a starting spot. That wasn’t going to be given to him at NU, with Martinez and Gebbia competing for the QB job. Fans may not want to admit this, but there is a good chance Martinez beats Burrow out at QB last year and Burrow spends his time at NU as a backup, or splitting time as the #1 QB this year. Martinez was pretty dang good last year, and Burrow was pretty average. Now Burrow is awesome this year, and Martinez has been the average QB. Any fan who could have predicted that, I’m sure they have that Vegas ticket with their bet for Burrow to win the Heisman at 100:1 or whatever odds it was at the beginning of the season. Stop using Burrow’s season this year as another reason to crap on Frost and the coaching staff. There are plenty of reasons to do so, but Burrow isn’t one of them.

  2. An indication of just how far we've fallen is the comparison of the Huskers to Arkansas. Arkansas? Really? When were their dynasties? How many crystal trophies are in their trophy case? The Razorbacks have exactly one undefeated season. It was during the Lyndon Johnson administration. Say what you will about similar trajectories. There's one big difference though. We've been there before. A few times. Arkansas hasn't. The Huskers will get back. Eventually. Definitely before Arkansas sniffs a playoff game. /jmho

  3. Im starting to wonder if people watch college football outside of Nebraska. Burrow is doing well because he has a good oline, a good rb, and the second best wr corp in college football. Jordan Jefferson is also a top 5-7 wr.

  7. With our offensive line, Burrow would look like crap too, so would pretty much any quarterback, even Tom Brady.

  8. Here is an article with film breakdown that answers that question. Appears to be both. WE currently sit at 88th for stopping third downs.....The stats in the article are really depressing. From the article.... Nebraska is 88th nationally in opponent conversion rate on third down. Opponents are getting 41.9 percent of the third downs they face. Purdue’s average distance to gain was 7.4 yards. Indiana’s average distance to gain was 7.2. Both hit above a 50% clip. Nebraska’s average distance on third was 3.8 yards against Indiana and it posted a lower third-down conversion clip… How? (Illinois represented the peak for the Blackshirts on third. The Huskers held the Illini to 1-for-12 on third down. In four of the five games since, Nebraska has given up 10-of-13, 8-of-13, 7-of-13, and 8-of-14.) The thing that can be fixed in the short term is communication, which has a lot to do with the vast majority of the third-down conversions the Huskers have given up in recent weeks. “It wasn’t good at all,” said senior inside linebacker and captain Mohamed Barry after the Indiana game. “I would say our worst game when it comes to communication, even on third down.” Purdue didn’t look much better. Nebraska needs to figure that out. Communication------SMH-------This far into the season in year 2 of the system. I wonder how much better we would look with younger, not B1G ready kids that could at least get in the way of the plays.......And the D is pretty strong on UC playing... The positive is help is on the way with recruiting/young kids already here. Communication is another issue. New DL coach, rotating safeties with injuries and Ruud in just year 2 have got to play into this and should also improve. This many issues in the back end would make any scheme look horrible...Not saying Chin doesn't warrant criticism.... https://hailvarsity.com/s/8270/husker-lbs-havent-been-great-3rd-down-coverage-another-problem

  9. I believe this is a lot of what's going on with Barry and very likely others. There is no trust that the other guy is going to do his job so they are playing outside the system. There was an article I remember reading when Crick and Suh were playing together and there was a game where Crick did something on a play and Suh asked him what he was doing and Crick said he was trying to help Suh make a play. Suh said don't do anything to make me look good just do your job. Just as quoted above, Jojo trying to make a play instead of doing his job when if he would have done his job he likely would have made the play. As one of the all time greats if not the GOAT coaches says "JUST DO YOUR JOB".

Trump Party: Trump, Gaetz, Graham, etc Traditional GOP: Kasich, Jeb Bush, Rubio, etc Traditional Dem: Biden, Bloomberg, Buttigieg etc Liberal: Bernie, Warren, AOC etc. The "Trump" party would never hold statewide office or the Presidency again.

  16. Yes, the defensive philosophy worked for one year at the G5 level with the highest scoring O in the whole country. Our O isn't remotely at that level of efficiency and and it's questionable as to whether Chin and Co. can even come-up with the "just OK overall, good at turnovers" D" he had in 2017 at the P5 level. Plus you have to look at what UCF has become without Milton, without a first-rate D to pick-up the slack they've become very beatable. Injuries happen. Would feel much better about the future with a first-rate defensive staff.

  19. As if that is the magic prize to correct our problems. He might have been descent here, he might have failed miserably, no one knows. But at Ohio State and LSU his supporting cast is so superior to what we put on the field it is a joke. Good for the kid and props to Coach O for getting him. Plus he just beat Alabama, nothing good make my day better.

  21. Just a hunch, but I am sure Frost was able to get the buy-in from his inherited players at UCF. I'm sure Frost thought "I was able to get the turnaround at UCF, utilizing their talent, along with a new attitude by those players. Frost was probably pretty confident coming to NU that he could do a similar turnaround. However, the guys he inherited aren't as talented as he thought and aren't as coach-able as he would have hoped. I am not saying Frost and his staff don't deserve any blame, but the players are the ones out on the field.

  22. I hope Frost learns to adjust. Frost really needs a new D coordinator next season and shouldn't be afraid to bench an underperforming QB.

  25. Oh but why stop there? Better coaching and we'd be UNDEFEATED NATIONAL CHAMPIONS FOREVER!!!!11one Lots of people are. Heck, we've even got jackasses like this already writing off an entire class that's barely even seen the field yet: Player development is apparently a foreign concept to a good chunk of our fanbase. Then again, we all witnessed the Mike Riley era, so maybe it's understandable that they just forgot that it exists.

  26. Interesting to see them list Hickman as a WR in the depth chart this week. I wonder if that is a get him on the field change or a permanent change based on roster numbers/performance. If he's struggling to put the necessary TE weight on he could still be a nightmare of a match up as a 6'6" WR who can block.

  27. I am an organ donor. Anyone who is an organ donor chooses to be. If I am clinically dead, I expect my family, doctors, and nurses to respect my wishes and do what needs to be done. If you are a nurse, you know what that entails when taking the job. If the hospital does things you dont like, dont apply there. But it is the hospitals job to find employees that follow procedure and will do what is asked of them. I am an xray technologist, if I say to my employer, this person is gay and I am christian so I dont want to take care of this person because its against my religion, I would and should be fired. Healthcare is different than being a baker and refusing to bake a cake. If Im the only xray tech and I refuse to do something, then Im harming this patient. If a nurse refuses to honor the wishes of the donor and the donors family, they are hurting the recipient. In your case, there were other nurses there to take over. Thats not the case for some hospitals. Nurses have specialties like doctors. You cant take a nurse from OBGYN floor and put them in that situation with no training so your situation doesnt work at smaller hospitals.

  28. Given the comment about having a close knit team and the fact that I do research on developing connection between people, I'm trying to a way to get the team to let me work with them. Odds of it happening are almost zero, but it would be pretty dang awesome.

  29. One thing that is very clear in all of this is reminding me of comments I remember seeing over the last 20 years. Fans think some dude on the bench is a stud and should be playing. The answer would be that they are having a hard time grasping the system. Some fans would say...."F*** that....just put the best athletes on the field and turn them loose." Well....what we are seeing is the problem when those players don't know the system and/or they don't play within it. It's not good enough to just put the best athletes on the field. To be successful, they have to be good athletes AND know and play within the system.

  32. FWIW, everything I’ve heard and read says Barry absolutely is a great leader for this team. Sometimes ILBs make mistakes because they don’t trust others around them to stick to their assignments. He has to be better, but I don’t believe “want to” is an issue for him. Honas has always had some issues with his responsibilities in this defense, dating back to his first camp here with us. He’s been described as missile that the coaches try to keep guided as much as possible.

  33. You and I remember Cosgrove very differently. This isn't good by any stretch, but 2007 was literally the worst P5 defense in the country. This one is middle of the pack.

  34. Yes. Putting all your eggs in 1 basket is never a good thing. Try to have the best offense, defense and special teams you can have every year. Some years maybe your O carries you, some years your D may be the stronger unit. Dont go into every year saying we live and die by our O. Recipe for lots of 4-8 seasons at the P5 level.

Burrow was on the market and he went where someone wanted him. Is he in heisman contention here, this year? lol. Not even our dark horse heisman contender isn’t contending Lets move on from woulda/coulda

  38. So...if I may summarize yet another curiously long winded post that seems to have a simple point (for lack of a better term) Nebraska and Arkansas suck. Some teams that sucked before don’t suck that much right now. The Huskers have a chance at sucking less in the future.

  39. Admit it. This would be the worst possible thing for the Trump presidency. Clinton testified prior to his impeachment. Trump's handlers have prevented such a move because they know their client would destroy himself in all of about 30 seconds giving testimony. This is the single biggest weapon in the Dems' holster. If they wield it correctly it would be incredibly powerful.

  40. I don't think saying Beck and Bo made a huge mistake not recruiting Burrow is hindsight. Even while Burrow was at Ohio State, many were saying it would have been great he was at NU. My hindsight comment is geared around Frost getting criticism for not trying to bring in Burrow. This just isn't an issue where Frost deserves criticism. He had 2 good QB's in the fold, and Burrow was probably looking for a certain starting spot. Also, Martinez played better than Burrow did last year. Burrow maybe never starts at NU, and if he does, it's highly doubtful he is performing like he is at LSU, given the surrounding talent he has at RB and WR there.

  41. You make it sound like he’s going around and complaining to everyone who will listen. That’s a whinny B. And that’s not Coach Frost. He gets asked questions in media sessions and answers them. Frost has shown consistent bluntness and truthfulness when asked a question more so than a lot of HC’s who prefer to say as little as possible. No offense, but sometimes people like you, for example, don’t handle this well and don’t like him stating what he believes to be true.

  42. Allowing guys to play who hypothetically told you to go "f yourself" would be much more detrimental to the program, than the possibility of injuries towards the end of a lost season.

  43. Let's say all of this is true - the older guys don't buy in to Frost and told him to F himself. Why wouldn't Frost play Freshmen over those guys who - accepting this as true - clearly haven't bought in? One plausible scenario - it's a tough league. There are no easy games. Illinois hit us like a ton of bricks. Indiana laid the hurt stick on us. So did Minnesota. Why bash up your Freshmen, who are undersized since they just got to this class, and not burn up the bodies of your older players? You're already not going to a great bowl game, and maybe not one at all. You choose to let the older, more experienced guys play and put the mileage on them, and continue to train your younger guys.

  46. We are definitely under performing, but I don't think the talent composite tells the whole story because this team is so young. I saw the chart below on Facebook (I don't have access to the full article, but I think this is interesting). The talent on the top of our team is really poorly ranked compared to the rest of the country because of attrition. The highly ranked Freshmen and Sophomore classes help to bolster the overall team composite. I don't think this defends this season, we should be better, but this team has a major lack of experienced talent and these adjusted rankings fit our season ranking better.
