My wife found some plans on one of our local hospitals website to make masks via sewing. She went to the local fabric store and got the materials needed. She's been working for several days now making these masks for some healthcare workers and my entire police department! These masks can be washed since they're fabric and since they're on the hospitals website I can only assume they work. If we could get thousands of other folks that have this skill to make masks it could help so much and since they're washable they'd cut down on waste too. And I'll add that they can be used as a last resort as a mask themselves or as a cover for the N-95 masks so they can be used longer.

Yeah, and the part they insist on missing is where the hundred million sick Americans who don't die will still be getting sick at the same time and grinding the economy to a halt regardless, and when the overwhelmed healthcare system starts killing doctors and piling up bodies like Italy, every other American with a medical condition of any kind -- meaning all of us and our loved ones -- will be vulnerable in a way we've never been before. Also, this is going on worldwide to worldwide economies. The countries who treat this quicker and more seriously will emerge as the economic powerhouse. Also, the part where elitist motherf#&%ers are willing to accept the deaths of the less productive.

I think first you need to come clean about why you're so intent on claiming this is not a big deal. Everything you're saying seems politically motivated: You keep parroting right-wing takes on this virus. And the governors of both California and New York are Democrats. This is an example of how the media does their job well. Trump passes off X as a factual statement. X is not true and the media reports that is the case. It's not reporters fault that Trump's only mode is BSing. In times of crisis, words matter. I wish we had a president who could be more precise with their claims instead of trying to sugarcoat everything.

Opinion pieces, editorials, personal views of people who work in media, etc., none of this is "reporting". So which is it, the media, or the media reporting? First thing you link doesn't give context. Second thing you link makes a claim with no source or proof or context. Third is an opinion piece, not reporting. Fourth is actual real news and isn't misleading or sensationalized. Fifth isn't 'the media', it's Hillary Clinton's twitter. The sixth is a screenshot of a factually accurate headline, and then a sourced assessment from a qualified expert. Seventh is a columnist's personal twitter thoughts. She's conservative too, funny enough. Eighth is, again, an opinion piece. Ninth is some perspective of satire comedy. Tenth is unclear what if anything it is. Two of the things you linked were "reporting". Neither "made things worse". Most of the other things didn't "make things worse" either. At least if you're gonna be angry at the bad irresponsible media, be non-partisanly angry about it and include some conservative media propaganda and flat out lies too. Honestly wtf would we ever bail out cruise lines? I understand considering airlines, but no one NEEDS to go on a cruise. It's not a way to get from point A to B. It's a way to relax and party. Give all that $ to independent/local restaurant and their employees/former employees over the next few months.

Let's take a look at this idea that some seem to think they need to believe. So...this isn't as bad as the common flu. Well, as of February 21st, the flu season was 5 months old. It started early October. It had killed 14,000. LINK So, October through February is 151 days. That's 92.7 deaths per day. Yesterday, we had 117 deaths. So far, we've had 100 deaths today (4:21pm central). That number will go up before the day is over. So....let's just say it stays at 100 deaths per day. That means, over 5 months, this disease would kill 15,100 people. But...there is no way it's staying at 100. In fact, like I said, today will be higher by the time it's over. Edit: It already is over 100 at 4:40pm central. Let's look at Spain. They are now going over 400 deaths per day. Over that same time frame, that means 60,400 people would die. Italy? 650+ deaths a day. That works out to 98,000 deaths. Now...all of the countries that are on the list of infected countries have implemented or are in the process of implementing very strict crack downs on society to limit the spread. That includes the heaviest hit countries. So...another thing I would like to hear from some of these Coronavirus truthers. What you do is point to these countries and say....see....it all fades away over time. So...Name one country where the virus has taken off like it has in parts of the US, that didn't do hardly anything to limit the spread....and the virus just sort of fizzled out and didn't do much. Can you name any?

no one says we aren't going to be fine. we are going through some rough times right now but it will run it's course. the question is what are we willing to pay for running that course? masses of people needing critical care at once....or spreading that medical need over time.

Not to and from while in your own car. South Korea did massive numbers of drive-through testing for that very reason. The US is starting to get drive-through testing up and running.

I don’t think you know what “semantics” means. You want to bash news outlets and the people that read/listen to them. You believe their reporting is making the situation worse, you just can’t explain why. News outlets are saying Accurate things about the situation and it makes you uncomfortable. You chose to consume people’s opinions as news, that’s on you.

The media received intelligence about this virus two months ago. The media downplayed its impact for weeks. Stood at a podium and lied for weeks. As the virus spread and State and local leaders realized what they were dealing with, the media proclaimed it a hoax. As the media sat idle and failed to respond to the obvious, those State and local leaders formed their own plans. The media, instead of using its constitutional authority, bumbled and mumbled and delayed. All the while, the media proclaimed their actions were the best, and everything was fine. And now that we're in full blown crisis mode, the media is instead distracted with blaming those same State and local leaders rather than taking decisive action. See? It's all the media's fault.

I was a Republican for more than 2/3 of my life. Volunteered to campaign on behalf of local politicians. I was raised with a strong sense of right & wrong. I know what makes a person good, or why they're not worth my time. Good Nebraska upbringing taught me that. And that's why I stopped being Republican a long time ago. Just couldn't stomach what this party has become. Maybe it's always been this way and I just grew up, or maybe it changed and I didn't. Either way, this is not a party I could support. And I think a lot of people are waking up to this realization. There are going to be a LOT of folks joining the ranks of Independents in the next few months. We just gotta figure out what to do with ourselves. And find some leaders who can represent us on a national stage.

It's so glaringly obvious he doesn't understand the seriousness of the situation.

So per the presser today it seems like Trump has grown tired of Fauci contradicting his inaccuracies and is indeed leaning towards loosening public health measures because he's nervous about the economy and how it will affect his re-election. But the virus and the economy are inexorably linked. It's not like we can scale back things before we've even successfully BEGUN flattening the curve, pour all our energy and resources into fixing the economy and just assume the virus will run its course. @Guy Chamberlin said it well. This is going to ravage the economy one way or the other. I wish he'd listen to health experts so we can avoid a catastrophic health disaster instead of his GOP buddies who are telling him it's not a big deal and to just dump more resources into the economy.

Boy it is going to be a WILD RIDE if Trump is convinced to ignore medical professionals and listen to his cronies trying to restart the economy and save his own re-election. Things could get a lot worse if we go this route. Trump is already guilty of having slept on this and not taken it seriously enough every step of the way. If he just retreats back to what feels comfortable and what he thinks is best for him personally holding onto power, we're going to be immensely screwed.

We understand that, at times, the lines in this discussion may be blurred. We ask each of you to use good judgement when deciding which thread to post in. I am currently being lenient about this, however, I will no longer be patient if this continues to be an issue.

Washington State had less positive tests and only 1 death yesterday, those are pretty awesome numbers from a state that was a hotspot early on.

The Moron in Chief can't stop messing up the message. One of the things Trump ad-libs all the time are promises for aid & supplies. He claimed weeks ago there would be a million test "by Friday." Well, it's weeks later and there still aren't a million tests. And then there's this. This is unconscionable.

Of all the actors involved in this farce of a play, for some reason someone wants us to focus on the gallery and not the headliner. Gosh. Why would that be?

The way our school is doing it, and how many in the state are, will be basing this semester's grade on just the 3rd quarter. That's great for students who did well for the 3rd quarter, not great for those who didn't. However, we decided for students who work really hard during this online learning, we can bump their grades up. We won't be reducing grades for students who slack off this quarter. This basically follows guidance from the state that this is more an enrichment time rather than typical expectations. We are still teaching our students as close to normal as possible, but it is technically not required that they do the work. The longer they go without finding out it's optional, the better.

C'mon you're smarter than that. It had nothing to do with race, so take your SJW act elsewhere
