  1. It seems to me the burden of proof rests on those imposing the shutdowns and travel and association restrictions to provide strong evidence that businesses being closed and employees under stay at home orders are actually safer as a result. Further, that “essential” businesses and organizations and their employees and patronage are somehow less dangerous than their non-essential counterparts. So far, the definitipns and rules are about as diverse as the people involved - inconsistent and vague and ever changing as imaginable. These laws, edicts, regulations, orders or whatever other names given are nearly all clear infringements on many of the inalienable rights of the Bill of Rights. Even temporary violations of fundamental civil rights are patently unconstitutional. Many individual liberties have been trampled upon in the name of health, safety, justice, fairness and so on for centuries. No matter what the justification offered, it is still unlawful and must be stopped.

  2. Risking death and long term health just so people can watch some football. Sounds about right I guess we should have known considering how little people care about CTE

  3. Some governors have taken it too far. I agree completely with the initial response in most areas but there has been extensive over reach that has already been proven to be unconstitutional in some states. I am guessing that we haven't seen anywhere near the end of the lawsuits. How football plays into everything remains to be seen but my money is on them having a season across most areas of the country.

  4. I think what’s great about our country is we are FREE, want to stay home cause your scared then stay home, want to go out cause your not scared then go out. So I think everyone would be best suited to handle themselves and their loved ones how they see fit and let everyone else handle their own s#!t. Just because you don’t want to go to a husker game because you are nervous doesn’t mean everyone should cancel the season. This is the US not China. Individuals and business can make their own choice not mandated by government. I believe the ncaa said it is up to each university to participate or not. I know I will worry about myself and do what I am comfortable with for me and my family. I don’t give a s#!t what my neighbor chooses to do.

  5. Please, it's not just the number of younger people killed that needs to be considered, here. This is not just an 'either you die or you don't' thing.

  6. I’m no law expert, but I’m under the impression that governor imposed restrictions in the the setting of a pandemic or other emergency are within the law. Not saying I agree with everything being done. Just looking for clarification. Also, while are Constitution is a great thing, isn’t it true that none of it’s guarantees are “absolute”? Not trying to play devil’s advocate here, but the whole “my rights are being trampled upon “ argument in the current situation seems weak to me. Just my opinions.

  7. At what point does society say we can’t live in fear? The sales pitch was hey let’s do our part and social distance to flatten the curve so hospitals don’t get overloaded. When did the narrative change to we need to try to not have anyone get sick? So do you believe every new unknown disease we should shut down the countries and world economies and live a life of fear? Do the 60,000 who die from the flu not concern you? Should we shut down the economy every fall/winter to save those lives? Or are flu deaths ok? My guess is once the election is over the media will stop talking about coronavirus and find something else to lead the masses into hysteria CTE, this is a free country and if players choose as a free person to play knowing the risk then that’s their choice. We will all watch football. Do you propose football should be no more to remove freedom of choice to prevent CTE?

  11. Trump's lines of attack against Biden aren't going to work. Shot: Chaser: If serious, apolitical journalists like Tapper are willing to call this what it is - unmitigated bulls#!t - perhaps the media has learned some lessons from 2016. That a lot of them take time treating Obamagate like a real thing and the amount of "explainer" pieces I've seen are worrying, though. If the media keeps treating Trump's bad-faith BS like legitimate news they have to cover honestly they're doing the country a disservice.

  13. Question: what happens when they do play the season and a game is played and afterwards players from both teams test positive? What is the protocol for when a player tests positive? Out for 2 weeks? With an infectious disease, rosters could be depleted quickly. Imagine a playoff game where Trevor Lawrence is out because he is COVID positive. These are things that need to be thought about beyond just 'well they aren't gonna die'

  16. Both sides are correct. The disease/virus is terrible if you actually get it. It certainly can kill you and quickly. Some young people have died no question. But hiding under a rock is not the answer. Personally if they play it will be fine with me. If they don't pretty much the same. Far more important things going on with this, than football. I deal with it daily, 6 days a week unfortunately. Wife is on the front line. CNO with a far different opinion of doctors after this event. ER doctors are gods in her eyes, the rest could go piss up a rope. Most are useless and terrified of the virus. The terror from this disease is so overblown it is beyond belief. What we have done is like killing and ant with a bulldozer. Makes no sense at all. Our community has had two deaths at her hospital from Covid. Both in their 80's and waited far to long to show up at the hospital. Why? Doctors are not taking calls, patients are terrified to go to the hospital or the Doctors office because of the continuous media claims they will die if they go out side. People are dying in our community of heart attacks, strokes, kidney disease, drug overdose, spousal abuse, and just about everything else under the sun because of the continuous terror program thrown on this country. by the news media. Many are not having surgeries that are needed because the surgery is considered non essential. The hospitals are going broke because of this. We should have attacked the source and protected the weak. Easy to say now in hindsight. But when the medical field can control something they will jump at the chance to do it. I offered a different opinion from a Chair head at Stanford. He has a completely different opinion of what is going on. He says the virus has been here since late October early November. A lot of people here think they have had it. Me for one, was never so sick in my life as I was in early November. But not allowed to take the antibody test yet. I think when that is allowed in California we will find out if Dr. Atlas is correct. I am out every single day, and have been since this all started. I work in communications and spend most of my time on mountain tops. If not there I ride my bicycle 25 to 30 miles a day. I am a high risk individual. 73 years young. Two heart attacks and other problems, but still face every day as an opportunity to improve my self physically. A Jar Head thing. It just never goes away. lol All of us want this thing to end, but we have to be smart about it. There isn't a need for LA to be locked down until we have a vaccine. California has lost close to 3000 people out of 45 million. 3000 is not a satisfactory number by any means, but this lock down here will end up killing more people than the virus, is my guess.

  17. Why because he is correct? Per CDC stats, you realize that since the start of February 158 people under the age of 24 have died of Covid? Over that same period of time 262 people under age 24 have died of the flu? That's 0.002% of the deaths attribute to Covid. But I'll gladly take the placebo arm of the challenge trials as Covid isn't going to kill me. Go enjoy some sunshine has hilltop suggests.

  20. If something isn't done about it football will go extinct because of CTE. Not because people aren't allowed to play, but because parents will push their children in different directions. If the CTE issue isn't solved football won't last much longer as a main stream sport relative to its peers. And to be clear I never said anything about eliminating football because of CTE, I was making an observation about how little fans care about CTE Edit: an article on the subject https://www.forbes.com/sites/rogerpielke/2020/01/28/the-decline-of-football-is-real-and-its-accelerating/

  21. This isn't a political forum so I will try my best to keep it brief. Football is a completely unnecessary luxury. 60k people have died in a single month, with all of the restrictions in place to prevent spread and deaths. People are suffering strange and potentially lifelong complications. This is in no way the flu, or like any disease we have seen in 100 years that has been spread at this scale. Realistically, football can and in my opinion should be the last thing we worry about bringing back. Until we have this under control, it shouldn't even be considered. We are facing an event unlike nearly everyone alive has seen in their lifetime. But an event that does happen with some regularity and reliability. If you look at history, these events tend to happen once a century. If you learn from history, you know that these things we are doing in a time of emergency are completely necessary not only for the lives of our people, but the wellbeing of our nation as a whole. When did we get so impatient? When did we lose our resolve? People have been such big babies about this imo. Nearly 100,000 people have died in America thus far and people literally cry about not being able to go to the nail salon. Its ridiculous. This isn't a hoax or a political hit job, it is a public health crisis unlike any we have seen in a century and it should be treated as such. Lessons from 1918 have not been learned though. You can literally see the exact same pattern playing out. Some areas didn't believe it was a big deal. They wanted to get back to their lives. And those areas were devastated by the second wave both in lives lost and economically. We need to learn from history and do our best to make improvements, but sadly it seems as if we haven't. Edit: and your attitude towards CTE really speaks for itself. If that's how you feel more power to you

  22. Amen. There has got to be a coalition of people from center right to center left that can rid us of all of the baggage we are seeing in each party and start looking at the issues without the misguided party filters. First I think we have to get rid of the virus in the WH and which has infected the GOP. The GOP needs a kick in the ..... so that they can stop and take a hard look at themselves. It probably won't happened so then I hope the principled GOPers can find others of like mind from the Dem party to start something fresh. Who would lead this??? I would have loved to see a Kasich/Hickenlooper ticket to challenge trump. Maybe John McCain should have picked Joe Lieberman for VP as some had suggested. History might have been changed and maybe we don't end up wt this mess today.

  23. That pathetic speech reminded me of something from HS. My senior year, the football team I was a part of was picked to win or at least tie for the conf championship wt the team that eventually ended up ranked 2nd in the state. Unfortunately we didn't gel (not enough jrs came out to support us seniors- we all had to play both ways for the most part, me tight end and OLB) and the starting QB was knocked out of the season during the first game. We ended up playing that team that ended up second in the state for our homecoming game. Our homecoming rally speech was given the day before the big game by a guy who graduated 10 years prior and was now an English professor. He went on and on about all of our losing seasons, how we had not yet won a game that year and how "as things change, things remain the same'" which was the heart of his 'rally' speech. Our coach was livid and got up after he spoke and tried to fire up the now unfired group of high schoolers. The game - we beat that #2 team in every statistical way possible........ except the final score. Our soph replacement QB threw a 5 yard pass not over the LB's head and into the waiting hands of the wide open RB in the end zone but directly to the LB who went 95 yards the other way for a TD. Oh, and Ben Sasse says we don't remember HS. Maybe I need that psychologist he was talking about after all. The speech by Sasse was just as terrible as that high school homecoming speech I heard back in 1973.

  25. There's a story about a boy who cried wolf that comes to mind. When Trump started his attacks 4 years ago with Hilary, it was decently effective (maybe because people were predisposed to dislike her). But after 4 years of this crap, I don't think people outside his base (who would vote for him if he took a dump on their doorstep and kicked their dog) even bat an eye on his bogus attacks. They hold no merit what so ever. If you accuse everyone you don't like of bogus crap, pretty soon those accusations will hold absolutely no weight.

  26. Great post and even this leaves out some complications. There is so much we don't know. Infants with COVID antibodies are now coming down with a condition similar to kawasaki disease. Whats causing COVID toes? So much we don't know about the long term effects.

  27. If my salary, at the end of the day, was dependent on a product I too would show little concern. One season of no product, creates a slippery salary. Athletes and those who coach them should not be our health barometer With that said, give me some sports

  29. Yep. Safety and apex players didn’t really have to respect our wr corps as receiving threats or blocking key screens. Play heavy run and make us beat you another way. Having a guy like manning outside and not having jack Stoll throw look out blocks on the perimeter should help this offense a lot.

  32. Assuming we have football this fall, I think his chances of playing meaningful snaps are about equal between NU and Rutgers, if Frost is being honest and truly giving him a fair shot. He knows NU offense extremely well from all reports. He starts from scratch at Rutgers. As a grad student he can take his time class wise and focus on football (at either school). Not sure what his school plans are so maybe study course choices are better? NU grad schools are very good as well. Maybe he knows coaches or other matters outside football and school in Jersey? I wish he would have stayed with Frost but wish him all the best either way! I will cheer for Rutgers with Noah at QB vs most other teams. lol.

  33. I haven't heard of a single "concerned" coach. I would think any individual who was, for whatever reason, could coach from the box or social distance. Officials are in general very in shape individuals and would be in a very low risk category. Any athletes with underlying conditions could make the choice to sit out. The show most go on. Life must go on.

  36. Twitter (and other people who take Twitter as fact?) is so stupid. It is a known gig in recruiting for fans from other teams to make burners to make fans of rival teams look crazy/mean. No one knows if @Bloody1130 isn't just an Iowa fan lol. That said, I will not have a single problem with fans saying whatever they want to to Clester Johnson if we beat Iowa this year. LEAVE THE KID ALONE. But I hope his dad just gets roasted if we win this year.
