  2. Just because Nebraska and other states "reopened" doesn't mean everyone's just going out and living life like they used to. You can say you're open for business again, but you can't force people to go out. I'm not doing anything different now than I did through March & April. Still limit going out, still wear a mask wherever I go in public, no socializing unless we can spread out, no eating out, nothing like that. I gather most people are doing the same thing. That, combined with most people wearing masks, is likely keeping transfer (and thus numbers) down.

  3. You last paragraph has a fair amount of truth to it. It's the reason you find ANTIFA near so many protests, it's the same reason gun nuts show up at COVID protests. On the flip side, at a certain point anger boils over when nothing changes from peaceful protests and this will always be the result. When we don't take these incidents seriously as a country this is where it will always end up. I just want to say that I'm extremely encourage by @BIGREDIOWAN you are one of the many good guys in law enforcement. There are too many bad apples giving guys like you a bad image. Even if there are systemic issues, there are still good people behind the badge who will do what's right.

  5. When taxes go up in that area to rebuild the police building and damage created what's your thoughts on the building being burnt down then? You won't "define entire things by them" but you'll basically lump law enforcement together as a whole with "their entire existence" statement which is interesting, but not surprising at this point. Look what happened wasn't okay, I've said that and I'm happy that the officer has been charged, but to justify burning stuff to the ground makes little sense IMO. As the saying goes, two wrongs don't make a right. Looting and rioting is a poor way to get a point across. Just like putting a damn knee on the back of a guys neck and crushing the life out of him is a poor damn way to do your job as a police officer. Just saying.....

  7. I fully support protests and understand the anger. I don't understand looting and burning of buildings. Those actions actually harm the cause they are trying to support. I also am a firm believer that there is an eliminate in our society that looks at these opportunities as a chance to cause MORE unrest. They really don't care about the cause the protest is supporting. They only want anarchy and unrest as much as possible.

  8. I don't understand the point of your post either. Are you saying Nebraska should stop recruiting nationwide due to the risk of guys transferring away from Nebraska and back home? Nebraska has always recruited nationwide. What made those 90s teams so amazing was the elite talent recruited from all over the country combined with elite local talent. Nebraska has to cast a wide net to bring in better talent. Yes, there are risks in having those kids not stay at Nebraska, but if done right, the kids love it at Nebraska and they make a significant impact.

  9. Talked to a Nebraska high school head coach today that told me Spielman is a cancer on the team. Tried to stage a “coup” as he called it against coaches last year when they practiced outside before going to Minnesota because it was too cold. Said he tried to get players to skip practice. Said Frost is trying to play it nice with public because Spielman is about to break school records but he does NOT want Spielman to return. He also said Frost didnt realize the extent of the problems Riley created when he took job.

  10. That's a pretty small and carefully selected sample size. The best rush defenses by YPC allowed in the SEC are both 3-4, Florida and Georgia. The only decent defenses in the Big 12 (TCU, Iowa State, and Baylor) run 3 man fronts. Chinander may be an issue, but the 3-4 defense itself isn't. I don't agree with a lot of the Chins hate, but I get it because our defense has had some terrible games. What is it about the 4-3 that people think would magically make us better at stopping the run? Saying "4 guys to eat up blockers instead of 3" is a gross oversimplification. We almost always have 4 or 5 on the line, and guys like Alex Davis/Garrett Nelson are as big as 4-3 DEs. We've just sucked at filling gaps, and that's a fundamental part of every defense. The 4-3 doesn't fix our issue there. A new coach might, but this would be more on Ruud/Dewitt than Chins - and they let Dewitt go. Most of the issues I've seen don't look like scheme issues - this isn't Bo asking our relatively nonathletic LBs to catch Melvin Gordon starting flat footed when he has a head of steam on a jet sweep. It's guys just losing leverage or overrunning their assignments. There have absolutely been some questionable defensive playcalls, but I don't think that's been the biggest issue for run D.

  11. While NU may have more transfers than other schools due to the coaching change, you are also refusing to accept that there is a nationwide shift in player philosophies in biding their time on the bench, and being willing to possibly play in their 4th or 5th year. It's not a Nebraska issue (I won't call it a problem, because IMO players having more options isn't a problem), it's a college football issue. I don't have a problem with a player being loyal to themselves before being "loyal to their school" like you seem to want them to be. It happens all over the work place, as people change employers often, in search of a better opportunity. Just like people want to get the most out of their time and money spent on their education, these kids want to get most out of the college football career after spending their youth training to get that college opportunity. Some kids see the writing on the wall after one year on the team, and they leave. Some kids stick it out for a few years, and are still destined to be backups in their 4th or 5th years, so they leave to a better opportunity to play as a grad transfer. I don't know how old you are, but you seem to be stuck in a bye-gone era and aren't willing to look at things from the current player point of view. With more kids having an opportunity to play meaningful college sports across a wide variety of schools, IMO that's a good thing.

  12. People should think of this every time they see protests like this. I like to think I would never be one of the people that would vandalize or burn down a building, but I don't have to fear for my life just going about my business because I have a certain skin color, then watch as there never seems to be justice. We've seen what happens with peaceful protests. People just become bigger a$$h@!es when anyone merely says there's a problem. If you can't understand why people might lash out and do irrational things you need to work on empathy.

  13. I think the recent growth transfers from Nebraska are being driven by a three things: 1) different coaching staff coming to NU, and Riley recruits not having the relationships with the current staff, 2) Looser rules on players transferring (grad transfer rules, ability to get waivers for immediate eligibility, etc.). 3) Walk-ons not wanting to sit for 5 years and still pay to go to UNL, when they can transfer to a G5 or FCS school and get a scholarship. There is also more media coverage showing every single transfer out, so it brings more awareness to every player leaving (especially highlighting every walk-on transferring out). Players transferring out isn't necessarily a negative and I think you are over blowing the "me now" mindset. Kids are putting in a lot of work and training in their youth and high school days (along with parents spending a lot of $), so when they get to college and see that they are going to ride the bench for most/all of their career, they are going to want to transfer to a school where they can play. While college football requires a lot of work, it's also meant to be fun for these guys, and most of the fun comes from playing in the games.

  14. I imagine some of it has to do with not being heard through the alternatives. An electoral majority of this country elected an open racist. John Roberts' Court denied discrimination and gutted the Voting Rights Act. Colin Kaepernick silently protests this exact thing and he is ran out of the the NFL and a punching bag for Fox News, POTUS, et al that relish in his plight. I don't understand throwing $1.7M worth of perfectly good tea into a harbor, but it proved effective.

  15. Absolutely terrible situation and the rioting shouldn't be occurring but that's usually where these things head unfortunately, but I'll never understand or agree with that either. I get the anger behind that though.... Those comments by this POS President are only going to add fuel to an already raging inferno and it'll result in people getting hurt or killed. He needs to STFU right now! And that officer needs to be charged already along with his colleagues and justice needs to be served! I'm so angry with what I witnessed on that video and there are countless officers along side me that feel the same damn way! There's a nation of officers that are angry and sick to their stomachs having witnessed what happened. God help Minneapolis

  16. s#!t's crazy, man. Haven't been following super closely but so far I've seen they lit an evacuated police station and an Arby's on fire, pulled down a traffic light to vandalize it and I've heard unconfirmed reports of people being arming themselves. Can't say I'm terribly surprised people have once again finally lost their cool after the umpteenth this happens to someone with no justice. Thank goodness we have this guy to douse everything in gasoline! This guy gets it.

  18. I never said that I don't agree that some things need to be changed so I'm not sure where you're getting that from? Simply put............................THEY DO! There's obviously other threads that have been created for that discussion so I'm trying to keep my thoughts pointed towards the riots and what occurred in Minnesota. The other officers in this situation need to be charged as well, they were involved in this death on some level either by their actions or inaction's and need to be held accountable. It's OUR job to protect and serve...........those officers DID NOT protect and serve in this instance. They stood by while a bully crushed the life out of a man for no damn reason at all! That's not what I am as a police officer and I won't stand for any officer(s) that would stand by and let something like this occur! F-ing cowards............the lot of them! *Sorry I'm just REALLY upset with what I witnessed on that video* On the flip side of things Minneapolis had a golden opportunity here to be the possible turning point in American History on this hot button topic. They had the entire nation going "OH MY GOD! WHAT DID I JUST SEE?! THIS ISN'T OKAY!" They could've gotten something together more organized and progressive than this and they still might in the end and had the whole country to back them with what they were doing! Instead they decided to burn their city to the ground, burn businesses to the ground, and hurt innocent people in the process that had nothing to do with this terrible situation. That makes their ideals, complaints, and movement lose some of it's "luster" for lack of a better word. We ALL have got to do better than this as a society. We're all humans and this is terribly tragic on so many levels. Side note not directed at Landlord: I wanted to be a police officer since I was 4 years old, my dad was one and served honorably, he was my hero so I HAD to be just like him. I've got twin boys that think the sun rises and sets in me, just like most dads, but one wants to be a police officer SOOOO badly, just like I did. I have to explain to that little boy, why he witnessed a police officer..............a "hero" in uniform crush the life out of a restrained black man for no justifiable or explainable reason. I can't even explain how incredibly difficult that is as a father who happens to be a police officer. Thanks A LOT for sucking and your jobs up there guys!

  23. Yeah, I guess...but clearly those cops are stressed the f#&% out. That reporter didn't need to be on top of them. My freaking iPhone can zoom in for video with ease, I am sure his crew can too. Here is my thought on jobs...don't make other peoples jobs harder than they need to be. He wasn't really doing anything "wrong" but he also wasn't doing anything right. This sort of seems like a time when both sides should have used common sense. I chalk this up to a big old nothing burger.

  24. As I said: this was taken from a live broadcast; one that continued during the arrest (the camera was still rolling as the police were carrying the production equipment away). Also, as I said: the reporter asks *multiple times* where he and his crew should be, while showing his press credentials. Why didn't the officers give him the instructions then? Finally, as I said: the governor called CNN directly and apologized, stating "they had every right to be where they were at". Not everything is a conspiracy.

  26. Why do cops in these situations frequently appear to be clueless robots? Is there anyone in uniform with a brain there? They look like a bunch of brainwashed stormtroopers. Look at all of them staring at the camera crew like they're just waiting to pounce. Good God. No wonder many don't trust the police.

  27. I feel much the same, @knapplc. We never had lockdowns here. Many workplaces, like mine, have continued operating the same. The only "eased restrictions" I have really noticed is restaurants going from take-out only to 50% occupancy. (I live between a DJ's Dugout and The Good Life; I would grab take-out occasionally but have avoided them since the changes). Schools aren't open; large gathering venues are still effectively closed, or at least severely limited, with capacity and social-distancing restrictions. And they shouldn't paint in statewide strokes; hard-hit areas like Dakota and Hall County are still in Phase 1 without eased restrictions. (I think this is the correct strategy going forward, opening and closing smaller areas as hot spots emerge, but it requires adequate testing and transparency).

  28. Another interesting thing to look at moving forward is attendance at games. If the attendance is limited then it is a heck of a year to have a tough road schedule @tOSU, @Iowa, and @wiscy. You would think that would negate some of the home field advantage. Wonder how Vegas will treat home field advantage?

  29. does anyone remember when trump told the police to not be so nice when arresting thugs? to rough them up a little? or when gun nuts stormed the michigan state house (or was it governer mansion? if forget)_ and trump told the governor to meet with those very fine people and work something out? maybe the black protesters would be very fine people also if they all had AR-15's? apparently the guns are what make you a very fine mob.

  33. Talk from Chinander is cheep. We rarely blitz. We never put 7,8,9 players the line and make the QB make an instant decision on whose coming and whose dropping. With big risks come big rewards. Chinander’s 3-4 is too conservative, what is he afraid of?

  34. IMO this doesn't wake up anybody - it does more to harm the local community and peoples' livelihoods, people who had absolutely nothing to do with any of it. It takes away paychecks... the ability to pay rent or buy food. It perhaps forces people to apply for unemployment. It could raise taxes to repair the damage they caused. Someone was also shot and killed during the riots. There's some speculation that this person 'may' have been involved in the looting but nothing concrete has come out yet. And on top of all this, virtually all top officials have condemned this officers' actions including the governor and police chief. I understand the aggression that leads to rioting, too. And what happened to George Floyd was deplorable and inexcusable, but there are a lot of people suffering (and people who will suffer) as a result of the actions of a few. Most of the people being punished right now for Floyd's death had nothing to do with it.

  37. But when The Lincoln Project folks speak out, or elected Republicans try to reprimand Trump, they find themselves in a netherworld. The reaction from Republican voters is often scary and vicious; a RINO accusation can lead to a farther rightwing challenger unseating a Republican incumbent. Doesn't seem to work the other way around, when a slightly more moderate Republican wants to distance himself from Trump but maintain conservative credentials. On the other side, while I want to salute these Republicans who stand up and say "enough!" I also have to review their voting record. Given the chance to actually exercise power, they did a lot of horrible and cowardly s#!t before deciding Donald Trump was a line they couldn't cross.

  38. There was no editing: this was taken from a live broadcast. He asked multiple times where he should be at, or where he could move to, with no response from the officers. Also, he was released an hour later with an apology from the governor.

He's losing his mind about it this morning. This is a stark contrast to Facebook, who wants to cosplay as First Amendment guardian but really just wants to keep making money and letting all garbage fly. You wonder where this goes now that it's set in motion. Feels like a game of chicken now...
