  1. So how is Warren the only one who knows that a vote took place?

  2. Speaking of something not being a good look...you should probably get off the "minority splash hire" thing that you have mentioned multiple times now. Him being a minority has nothing to do with his performance, and continually bringing it up is a bad look for you.

  4. No she's not. She would know if she actually cast a vote or not. She says she didn't actually vote.

  5. How in the world did you not release a letter like this EIGHT days ago when you announced it. The leadership in this conference is really pathetic.
    6 points
  6. Well he DID lie in his letter why would you think he would be truthful on anything else. 1)Transmission rates are currently falling, NOT rising. 2) They won’t know much more about LONG-TERM myocarditis effects on then COVID-19 patients in January that they don’t already know now. 5 more months doesn’t give any more safety data on long term effects since the current data says recovered patients are currently fine in terms of heart disease issues. 3). I have not heard of any university saying they don’t have access to tests, though I admittedly don’t closely follow all 14 programs. 4) currently CTE risks and known long-term damage from CTE are in far greater numbers than COVID-19 risks for this age group.

  7. When Ohio State rebels against the Big Ten I'll gladly eat crow. And Warren didn't take anything away from Ohio State because he didn't make the decision because that's not his decision to make.

  8. Kudos to you @Notre Dame Joe You are so good at the Republican strategy of whataboutism and distraction it is almost poetic to watch. We see this strategy be effective over and over again, and yet those of us willing to see Trump and his misdeeds for what they are keep falling into this trap over and over again. I was so incredibly frustrated when the Republicans used this strategy so successfully during the impeachment trial. It was so successful at one point I thought that Joe and Hunter Biden were the ones on trial and the Democrats were desperately trying to save his presidency. Stop falling for it! Here we are again, THE REPUBLICAN RAN SENATE COMMITTEE released a report all but confirming the Trump Campaign colluded with Russia. We should be talking about that. We should be shouting that from the rooftops. Instead I log in and see multiple pages in defense of the Uranium One deal AGAIN!!! Quit letting them change the subject! Develop some discipline, stay on topic. It's like we can't help ourselves when this tactic is used, we feel we must counter. NO WE DON'T. All it does is make it seem as though both parties are equally guilty when we entertain unequivocal whataboutism. Laugh it off, brush it off your shoulders, and comment again about how traitorous Trump sold American interest to Russia for a hotel deal and his family's personal fortune.

  11. Sorry, that wasn’t my intention, I apologize if you were offended by that comment. Im guessing we grew up in different places and in different eras. I didn’t grow up in the micro aggression era, if we were trying to get after someone we were overt about it. Don’t get your panties in a bunch where I’m at just means don’t fret about it. where I’m from that wouldn’t be considered a personal attack, but you like all of us are entitled to how you feel. Won’t happen again, my apologies.

  12. Yes it’s my guess Warren wanted to be the out front leader hero on this covid cancellation thing to cement his spot as the next nfl commissioner. Why not wait until we get more data from what happens once schools open and full contact practices begin? Why not wait to see what other conferences are doing. Makes perfect sense now. According to several non league sources he had zero coordination and contact with the sec, big 12 and acc about what he was doing. They were caught off guard on both his rescheduling and the cancellation. All so he could be the first one to declare the season over. Why else would he go from revising the schedule to canceling in less than one week just because the Mac announced they were cancelling? So he could beat all the other power 5 teams to the punch. He wanted the glory of being the first power 5 to cancel. Just like he wanted all the pr for doing his rock the vote and social justice warrior initiatives- to be out front to add to his resume for the nfl. Not a fan at all .

  13. B1G logic: Starting football in September is unsafe due to medical risks for kids. Starting football in January with likely little change in the way of infections/treatments/vaccine and increased risk due to likely winter resurgence and flu season is safe. Got it.

  15. I'm not sure focusing on the vote really matters at this point. I think it is easy to assume some in the conference were likely against playing this season and would have "voted" against a fall season. Football just doesn't mean as much in places like Rutgers, Maryland, etc... I do think Warren deserves much criticism over how this process has been handled. The lack of planning, the weird chain of events, his lack of leadership, and especially his lack of communication all indicate he is in over his head. I also believe his commitment to Big 10 athletics should be questioned because of the simple fact that he allowed the Big 10 to be the first domino to fall. Even if he personally was against having a season, he should have just pushed for a later start to avoid all the negative press for the Big 10. Maybe he is acting out of fear for his own son and assumed the other leagues would cancel once the Big 10 did? That seems as likely as any scenario right now.

  22. Wasnt there some article that explicitly detailed how this job is nothing more than a stepping stone for him to be commissioner of the NFL one day? You can't fake passion, enthusiasm, and conviction- this guy shows none of it because he doesnt care at the end of the day

  23. Here's the video. Mr. Warren does not inspire the kind of confidence I would like to have in this conference. He needs to go into politics, not sports. He used a lot of words to say absolutely nothing.

  24. I said Russia gets Uranium which the NR link explains how they got it. You assumed I meant "USA Uranium was exported to Russia" Pretty much the usual political strawmanning. Kind of like how posters will ignore the difference between vote-by-mail and a requested absentee ballot because acknowledging the difference would wreck their case.

  25. So what they’re saying is, WE’RE FINALLY GETTING A DOME?! But really though, where would the games be played? And wouldn’t outside be safer from a covid standpoint?

  26. Riley is obviously a great talent but if we nab Helms, Carnie, Rollins, & Fidone for TEs in the 21/22 class then I won’t feel that bad. Pretty similar to how I feel with Keegan. Hard to feel sad right now with Grimes, Hardy, & Neville for 2021 with Fleming, Manning, Betts, Brown, & Nixon on campus already.

That’s why they are doing their own conference calls without him and guys like Brohm are coming up with spring football plans read this- it tells it all in detail https://www.google.com/amp/s/saturdaytradition.com/big-ten-football/moving-forward-is-kevin-warren-the-right-person-to-lead-the-b1g/amp/

  29. I think we can put the "vote" thing to rest as it didn't happen. Minnesota and Penn State's presidents have said as much and that's a direct source. Now whether Warren pushed the decision or not and what sway he had is an open question, but there was definitely not a formal vote.

  31. I am starting to think that knapplc may actually BE Kevin Warren somehow. At the end of the day, it doesn't really much matter how much he had to do with the decision or not. He will be the fall guy if it goes bad.

  32. Yes, it has been an evolving issue. That said, these guys had five months to plan for contingencies. As the saying goes, "that's why they're paid the big bucks." Unfortunately, they looked no more competent than the NCAA folks. Poor communication, bad PR and terrible execution. Per Bill Moos, the ADs were having daily calls, coaches were having calls together with all levels of the university and conference, medical plans were developed along with dozens of contingency plans regarding all sorts of factors. If the athletic departments were putting in that much work and detail, it would be expected that the conference office would at least put in a little effort to provide some plans of any variety. Instead, the decision was a flat push to spring with no sign of a plan other than we're hopeful for a spring season with zero autonomy for the schools who can manage themselves.

  33. With Warren silent for the last 8 days and new momentum for a new season being seen from multiple sources including a Milwaukee newspaper. Which teams are most likely to be in or out? Seems like playing still has some legs https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/college/uw/2020/08/18/revised-big-ten-football-season-could-begin-january/5602516002/ In descending order : Ohio state- legit national title contenders- consistently said they want to play Nebraska- led the charge, unity of purpose. Bad taste in mouth from last 3 years- need positive traction penn state- franklin has them on the move in the right direction, top 10 program, always in iowa- consistently said they want to play. Always in. wisconsin- legit top 15 program, been quiet, but looks like they’ve never been on board with not playing. Not sure, seems like a silent commit. purdue-Brohm and company have been frustrated and a bit vocal. They are on positive territory under Brohm and want to move the momentum forward. michigan- harbaugh wants to play. Mixed signals here. They can’t let Ohio state play and get left behind. But very liberal campus. Tough call. below this line- very tough to call indiana- great season last year, better Recuiting, conservative state. They are on the move Michigan state - new coach, down season, woke campus. Probably not. Easy calls from here on down illinois- parents and kids want to play. Some momentum from last year. Don’t see it happening. minnesota- great season. Too woke, fine with letting their area burn to the ground. no chance northwestern- nope. They think they are Chicago ivy league maryland- no chance rutgers- no chance

  36. So much speculation going on there. I think the conferences are kind of like the NCAA; they derive their power from their members. In that sense, I think both of these statements can be true at the same time: -Kevin Warren is being scapegoated to a certain degree here. -The B1G (as a collective unit, meaning including not only the central office but its member schools) had five months to craft a comprehensive plan but didn't do it. Different train of thought: I wonder if the BTN contract itself is part of the roadblock here? Let's say 6-8 schools do want to play and that some kind of liability waiver could be drafted for them to sign and then have some kind of ad hoc season. You can't generate the original amount of revenue for the full TV schedule, right? So how would divide the money? Thing is, some money is way better than no money isn't it? Maybe that's where the spring season comes in. Maybe Warren is actually dead serious about putting together a spring season. I'm just personally in the camp that believes that's a pipe dream for various reasons.

  38. I wonder if he and the presidents felt like they would be the crusaders out front rather than the ones left on the island. It can still be corrected, but egos will make it tough. Fact remains, this guy should be working 20 hours a day trying to figure out how to make it work.

  39. Ok my bad on the Penn State then, but a "deliberative process" does not equal a vote. The loudest voice in the room wins in a deliberative process and it's likely that some schools just went along for the ride as they didn't know which way to go. This should have come down to each school saying yes or no and a formal vote count with each school making their opinion known. Also, the Minnesota president did say there wasn't a vote. Voting and arguing to a decision that others go along with is pretty different.

  40. From this article: So yeah, there's a lot to be unhappy with Warren regarding the messaging of all this (or, as Franklin is alluding to today, the lack of messaging), but Warren is not the person who made the decision to cancel football.

  42. So, I'm assuming these are the 6 schools that voted to play this fall? It is just amazing to me the various types of reactions from media and the conference through all this depending on what program is saying what. The ONLY way this could possibly be being put together is that it's coming from OSU.

  43. I had never heard of Jeff Snook until yesterday, but apparently he's legit... https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10217193743904537&id=1498798014 BREAKING: OHIO STATE’S A.D. WORKING ON PLAN TO GET FIVE OTHER BIG TEN TEAMS TO PARTICIPATE IN 10-GAME SCHEDULE THIS FALL BY JEFF SNOOK No matter what has been stated publicly, Ohio State’s hierarchy hasn’t yet given up on playing football this fall. Athletic Director Gene Smith, with the full support of school president-elect Kristina Johnson, has been working behind the scenes for the past six days to organize fellow Big Ten conference athletic directors in convincing at least five other university presidents to move forward with a 10-game season to be played among six teams, a source familiar with the movement told me today. In this proposed format, each team would play the other five Big Ten teams who are participating twice -- once at home and once on the road, beginning on either Sept. 26 or Oct. 3. The season would conclude by mid-December and there would no Big Ten title game in Indianapolis. As of Tuesday night, the source claimed that Penn State President Eric Barron, Nebraska President Walter “Ted” Carter and Iowa President Bruce Harreld are on board with the new plan. The group hopes to convince two other universities, notably the University of Wisconsin and the University of Michigan, to join them... (continued)
