  6. Moos is right on the razors edge on this. We never got any favors from the big 10 when it comes to sports, so kudos to him for pressing the envelope. Call things out for what they are, Hail Moos!

  7. That just isn't correct. It's closer to 15-17 million more yearly than 7 over the Big XII, and the Big Ten renegotiates right after the others do to push it more. The gap is going to remain for a while. Push that over a decade (150-170 million) and that's your new facility. Still think that's not a big deal? https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/sec-football/report-sec-comes-in-2nd-to-big-ten-in-2019-revenue/

  8. No. Govt will solve the drinking fountain problem, it created, by trucking in thousands of recyclable bottles of water, then hiring four more people to inspect, count and inventory, sanitize and distribute the bottles to the students. then collect up the empties, haul away and save the planet, by expending lots of oil, gas, metal, plastics, emissions etc to get water to a place where water is already safe and plentiful and readily available in a convenient way. And of course, make some kids sick in a Herculean effort to prevent them from getting sick!

  9. This is government at its best! Best of intentions, publicly expressed, but never thought out and tested before mass implementation with undesired results. Typically very expensive, inefficient, ineffective and usually perpetual in duration. Normally two new problems created for each perceived problem addressed. The longer the government involvement lasts, the more permanent the indirect and ‘always unexpected’ consequences become. The marketplace by its nature responds with rational reactions in the direction of minimizing the economic fallout but often government in response thereto imposes more restrictions. It becomes a never-ending cycle as government spreads like a noxious weed in the yard.

  10. Having other schools closer to NU was the best part about being in the Big 8/12. I know that there are NU fans all over the country, but the majority of NU fans are in and near Nebraska. Everything in the Big Ten feels so far away. There are a lot of positives about the Big Ten, but for fans who want to go to the games and events, the Big Ten makes things very challenging. The reason that 30K NU fans (with another 10-20K outside) showed up at the CU game in Boulder is because it was close.

  13. I think anyone that gets named as President to a university system such as Ohio State has a good enough of an idea what athletics means to that University, and if they don't, they aren't fit for the job. I think it's really an issue of Sam twisting words to make some sort of point, as he is wont to do.

  18. I really feel they should have the process start over. They should have Prez's, AD's, HC's coaches listen to the Medical people. Allow AD's, coaches and Prez's have their conversations within the different Universities. Then Ad's and Presidents together for conversations. Lastly the Presidents meet to "vote." This should have been lead by the commish. No wonder the process was so fast. This isn't rocket science. I have been both an AD and the Athletic representative for a HS to a conference. This is how it is always done. The process they used is called FUBAR. The process should start over. What Warren is doing now is hiding and pouting because he realized he screwed up and doesn't have the confidence or experience to swallow his pride and do it the right way. I still might not like the answer, but it is easier to take if the process was done the right way. This, Mr. Warren, is why the people are reacting the way they are. Plan and simple this was a lack of leadership, and the blame does go beyond Mr. Warren.

  19. While the details are interesting, I don't find it a revelation Warren manipulated the internal dialog to reach the decision he supported from the outset. My curiosity is just how drunk w/power was he? Following the Power 5 Presidents meeting, the media buzz was that the outlook was "negative", the BIG & PAC would announce a decision the following day, & "the SEC was expected to follow the BIG's lead". OK, the PAC was never going to play, the BIG is announcing w/them, I wasn't even a little surprised the season was cancelled, & then pleasantly surprised NU wanted to go forward on it's own. But, that last statement in any context is laughable. The SEC would push forward if all their games were being played in Wuhan. Who was naïve enough to create that narrative? The South might succeed from the union over CF & the SEC gives the NCAA the middle finger. Who believed they were going to follow Warren's lead? Warren? If so, this clown thought he was playing 4D Chess while playing tidily winks.

  20. Alabama is just one week into the semester and is already using 200+ of the 450 quarantine beds they leased from a local apartment complex to house sick kids of campus. No one is playing through to a national championship.

  21. Even the heart of the SEC schools are all pretty close to each other. All of the newer schools to the Power 5 conferences are outliers geographically and their fans have struggled with that transition. In the long run, maybe NU fans can create their own traditions going to Big Ten cities, but the expense and time required to do so makes that challenging.

  22. College football is intimate...the non-conference and bowl games are for travel. Look at the old big ten. Take Purdue...you were 3-5 hours to play...Indiana, NW, Illinois, MSU, Michigan, Wisconsin, OSU and Iowa.

  23. I get that. I am not saying I prefer the Big 12, I am just saying the Big 12 was nice because the schools were close, and the college towns were “familiar” to Nebraska. Ames, Lawrence, and Manhattan aren’t amazing college towns, but they are a day trip for most Nebraskans. Whether it’s a football, basketball, volleyball, or baseball game, those are easy trips for fans to make. It hasn’t helped that NU has been pretty bad the past decade, so for those who do make the road trips, the long trips home sick even more after a loss.

  25. It's not football, but it's NU! IMHO, this would be a great thing to do on social media. Get famous Huskers, celebrities, fans etc to do this "carpool karaoke". Get some great exposure.

  27. I guess I look at it like this...say everything was the same (Really that just means the money), I think most fans would want to go back to the Big 12 in a second.

  28. Either way, there was piss poor communication and planning across the leadership of the Big Ten, especially from Warren and university presidents, whom eventually made the call. They went with the “extreme” view on things and pulled the plug without thinking of a middle ground and trying to make alternatives work.

  32. If someone posted how all of this would be over if it wasn't for the CHAZERS and protesters...find it, show me and I will quote it and make sure they know the Karens, Freedom fighters and Olive Garder fans are also to blame.

  33. It will be impossible to ever stop making fun of CHAZ. Just like it will be impossible to ever stop making fun of the dorks that freak out about their freedom being violated because they have to wear a mask at Target. Morons need to be goofed on. Had you only brought up CHAZ and protesters I would have made fun of the Karens and the freedom fighters.

  34. I did not know this about Ford. But would it surprise anyone even the tiniest amount if Trump rushed an unproven, potentially unsafe vaccine to production solely for political reasons? He's doing the same thing right now with plasma treatment right now so he has something to talk about during the RNC this week.

  35. True but the article clearly states warren isn’t qualified for the job, because unlike other league commissioners, he has no experience in college athletics. Warren does not understand how these organizations work. All of his experience is in the nfl. So he is learning on the job at more than $2,000,000 per year. Terrible hire , but it won’t matter a hill of beans to some who will insist on carrying his water no matter how inept the guy is.

  36. This is true, the goal of any public entity is to grow larger and more powerful. I owned a compNy that did outsourced service work for our state. Most December’s were a bonanza for us as several departments had not spent their budgets. So they either made up make work projects for us or we just billed them for what They had left over and then did the work the following year. They always spent their budget because the automatic increase the next year would be based on the higher amount. My guys hated it there, the state workers were absolute expert savants on how to waste time and money. They Had one guy who spent most of his time managing the area fantasy football league. don’t get me started on my experiences working with ops, it gets worse lol

  37. Not going to happen. Too much at stake. The Spanish Flu killed half a million people in this nation and we still played college football. Unless more than half an entire conference gets this all at once, they will not be stopping.

  38. On this week’s Pick 6 Podcast, Sam McKewon did a good job of explaining Warren’s actions during the review process. Basically, Warren took a siloed approach to meeting with the health officials, university presidents, and AD’s. He met with them as individual groups, but never had the groups meet together to discuss. All the AD’s could have said they wanted football, but unless they have a clear line of communication to their respective presidents, then that message is going to get lost. Warren’s decision to go with that approach was a colossal failure, as it led to broken lines of communication. That’s why AD’s were saying “there wasn’t a vote” or “the vote was in favor of shutting down the season”. They weren’t present for the vote of the presidents. McKewon had another good point in that the university presidents may not know how much football is needed to prop up the rest of the athletic departments, university, and local economy. Some of these presidents are new to their positions and don’t have the history in the community like many of the AD’s do. While Moos is new to NU, he gets how much football means to the athletic department, and he has an aligned view on things with Ted Carter and Ronnie Green. The same can’t be said at other universities.

  39. So the AD’s needed to go through Warren to communicate to their own universities? How dysfunctional is that? Like the worst marriage ever. and did anyone read this thread title as drugged and and dragged?

  41. A quick story. My daughter came back to Lincoln last week but we hauled out a bunch of her stuff on Friday. She’s in an apartment this semester so needed more stuff than when she was in the dorms, bed, etc. Anyway, got her all settled in today and drove to Columbus to visit with the mother in law. Shortly after we got to Columbus I discovered I did not have my wallet, credit cards, license, etc. Text my daughter and sure enough, it had fallen out of my pocket in her car. So I arrange to meet her half way, just north of Seward at hwy 15 and 66 (Dwight road). It’s getting later, the sun is going down so I’m pushing it a bit, about 73 in a 60 or 65 zone. Radar detector goes off, I hit the brakes and the sheriff car goes by. I’m a little surprised he didn’t flip around right away so I think I’m in the clear. So I start driving the speed limit. About ten minutes later he’s on me from nowhere, flips on the lights and pulls me over. I figure the speeding ticket is a given but I’m concerned about not having my license with me. So the Butler county sheriff guy comes up, asks for license and registration. I say well, I’ve got the registration and explain I’m on my way to get my license. He takes my reg and heads back to his car. Figure he’s writing my ticket. He comes back and says “here’s your registration back, I’m not issuing you a ticket” and then goes into detail on how he clocked me and why my radar detector wasn’t quick enough to warn me to slow down sooner. I’m kinda smiling saying yeah, I could tell you had me. He says he just wanted to stop me to make sure I wasn’t up to no good, running kilos of coke from Colorado or anything. I kinda laugh and say nah, I’m just out here driving too fast without a license, and then he laughs. He says drive safe and lets me go. Pretty cool guy
