  1. It's almost as they need someone to serve as a liaison between all these groups. Someone to talk to the players, coaches, presidents, and ADs. Someone to gauge their feelings and concerns and make a decision that represents all the parties interests. A commissioner of sorts, if you will.

  2. Meanwhile if you troll through Iowa message boards they're whining about how this is a publicity stunt and the lawyers the NU players hired have a stupid website. I'm constantly in awe of Iowa's inferiority complex. You'd think winning a few years in a row would help them sell off some of that real estate we own in their heads but I guess it's not a sellers market yet.

  6. It is also noteworthy the allegations specifically state the damages do "not exceed $75,000." This is done to prevent removal of the matter to federal district court based on diversity jurisdiction. The two prongs for diversity jurisdiction are: 1. complete diversity of the parties (parties from different states) and 2. the amount in controversy exceeds $75,000. As such, the matter will stay in state court where the judges are elected rather than appointed (as in federal district courts). Important considerations as this matter progresses.

  7. Big Ten...I get it, you have your dong in your hand Just come out and say "Look, honestly we thought everyone would cancel...So we are going to play and if any big ten team doesn't want to play, that is okay."

  10. Frankly, if they do have 6 schools simply agree and proceed on their own to schedule and play games, the big ten cant stop them as it takes 9 votes to pass a rule to boot them all out which they wont have. Mutiny with a group of 6 is unstoppable it appears. Would like to see the current by laws but since they voted to cancel fall, it is conceivable that a group of 6 or more can go on their own. Big Ten is not going to self destruct by ousting that many members.

  11. The bold could be the means by which the B1G could 'save face'. Use the new rapid testing as a means to say " Well now that we have this test, we can most assuredly have games played. In our immeasurable wisdom, we will now release the schools to play a fall schedule starting in October." https://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/football/report-thanksgiving-start-among-options-for-big-ten-football/article_a07d51ba-c326-53b1-a6dd-e9eb2c6386cb.amp.html

  12. The NFL isn't even hedging. Other than cancelling pre-season games nobody really wanted, it's full steam ahead. The prospect of watching a football season play out on TV every Saturday and Sunday while your university and conference sits on the sideline suddenly sounds like a nightmare. You generally don't get in trouble by considering the safety of your students first, but clearly The Big 10 expected more support and less backlash. Will There Be a 2020 Football Season? is the thread that won't stop giving.

  14. Because there are several studys showing many deaths could have been avoided had stronger action been taken. Also I only remember one person claiming it would disappear at 15 cases. Then lying over and over and over and still continuing to lie about the situation to make himself look better because he is a malignant narcissist.

  17. not sure how this will work. but offering their arenas if the states want to use them can't hurt. get the NBA stars to man the polling stations in some way and watch the turnout soar.

  18. These "reports" that the Big Ten is looking at a Thanksgiving season seems like an attempt by the league to buy itself time with all the pressure from parents and players. I think they likely want to see how the first couple weeks of games in other leagues go before commiting to a new timeline. If they see many games being places in the SEC, ACC, or Big 12, they realize the pressure for the Big Ten to play will grow. If they see that many games are getting canceled they are likely to pivot back to having games played in 2021.

  19. IF (and it's a big IF) these meetings today turn out to be something worthwhile, I truly hope the Husker Athletic social media accounts put out a simple "You're Welcome" . Hard to imagine any of this steam would happen had our guys not been persistent to do what they consider to be the right thing.

  23. I agree with you on them closing distance as it makes no sense from an officer safety standpoint. We are taught the 21 foot rule in the academy and through our training. That states if a suspect is standing 21 feet away from you with a knife and your weapon is holstered they can get to you and stab you before you can get your weapon out of the holster and fire one shot. So distance is your friend with a suspect with a knife. Obviously that can change if the suspect starts moving towards and innocent bystander or something. That's my guess at what the officer will try and say in this situation in some form or another. However the courts aren't real happy with Officers "creating a deadly force situation" through their actions so time will tell on this one.

  24. He probably could, but he shouldn't because he should wait until the hearing officer presents all the evidence to him and gives their recommendation on discipline. He's basically the "judge" in this situation. Could he explain that process so everyone understands, sure, should he screw this process up though, no.

  25. While I understand the "shock" in the Sheriff maybe not seeing that you'd have to understand how internal affairs works in law enforcement agencies and the layer's involved with that. For instance I've been involved in a few as a supervisor over the years. There's usually an investigator involved or the "finder of fact", then a hearing officer and then the disciplinary officer. Typically the Chief/Sheriff is the disciplinary officer and makes his/her decision off of what the hearing officer says. The investigator gets all the evidence together and presents that to the hearing officer who then forms an opinion and gives recommendations to the Chief. It's kinda similar to how courts work and this process is based off of employment law, department policy, state law, and case law. It's not a simple process and you can't **** it up or you'll be screwed as a department in several ways in the end.

  27. That's why dealing in hypotheticals with things like this is an incredibly slippery slope. Based on what we know and can see for ourselves, the end result of a man being shot in the back seven times is unacceptable. But, I think we also have to admit that we don't know as much as we'd all like to. We also know (based on the video) that Jake Blake didn't do himself an abundance of favors. That is not an excuse for what happened to him, but, it is a part of the story that will be told if this goes to court. A court isn't going to deal in absolutes. And I too have to push back against the notion that how this started isn't overtly relevant. It is absolutely relevant even if the end result is abhorrent. If the investigation determines that how everything unfolded was riddled with mistakes (and, right now, it feels like that will be the case) then that is incredibly valuable information. We can't be better as a society if we're not learning from our mistakes and what causes them IMO.

  29. Maybe i'm just spit-balling here but why doesn't the Big Ten allow each school to schedule on their own this fall? Let each school play as few or as many games as they would like so long as they get a piece of the TV revenue whether BTN or otherwise. No conference title, no divisions and essentially each team acting as an independent within the structure of the Big Ten TV network? Yes, it would be messy but at this point, it's a big mess anyways. At least then each school would have autonomy to act in their best interests while being as aggressive or conservative as they are comfortable being all things considered?

  31. Amazing sometimes what a little ‘sunshine’ can do. lol. I am wondering if Special K now thinks he can avoid getting his a** canned by trying to come up with some oddball plan to avoid the disclosure of the board mtg minutes & vote records by some kind of deal before the court deadline Monday? I doubt it will work. The suit is filed and the order will not be relieved with a quick ‘nevermind’ before then. The gift that just keeps on giving!

  36. Also, I would not be surprised if this was a coordinated effort and move with other parent groups and it was decided that players from other teams do not file suit because the chance of winning in those jurisdictions is not as high due to variety of factors, including laws of the state, political pressures, or allegiances. Similarly, if other players filed suit there is the possibility of split and different decisions (an Ohio court may find differently than a Nebraska court on this issue). In the legal world this is known as forum shopping.
