  1. I'm also gonna go against the grain and say Nebraska needs to recruit a passing quarterback. They're all over the place. It's what makes them a quarterback. If they see open field and want to hook slide or angle to the chains for a first down, they will, but they don't consider themselves dual threat quarterback and neither do we. They see the field better, they hit open receivers, check down to secondary receivers and even lead them in stride. Then do you know what happens? The quarterback hands the ball off to his running backs. A lot. The opponent who stacked the box and dared you to beat them with your arm just lost that gamble. Now you call whatever game you want. You don't pass more than you run. You just pass a lot better. It's what all the cool teams are doing. A better passer is the running game's best friend.

  2. We “fix” it by being patient and letting this one play out. I completely agree, it’s bad, but if we keep switching coaching staffs nothing will get better. Frost has made mistakes which set us back, but unless people believe he doesn’t care...a move would be short-sighted.

  6. Husker Nation created this mess. We get what we deserve. Fired Solich bc he could not recruit. Now we say we would take a bunch of 3* with heart....ie Solich We fire Bo bc he only won 9-10 games a year, got blown out in big games and wasnt pure like TO. Now we would die for 9-10 wins, we get blown out on regular basis and Bo isnt any worse than Saban, Malzan, Mullen...etc We fire BC bc he doesn't embrace tradition and had first non bowl....now we complain that walk ons play and haven't been to bowl in awhile. We fire Riley bc he is too nice and made bad coordinator hires...now...Same Now guys calling for SF ??? Are you kidding? SF is 4th coach in decade. What do we expect? Let's keep firing guys, going farther in debt, changing systems, flipping rosters. How about fans quit compounding the problem, telling stars they should transfer, telling recruits to run, calling for HC. If you are doing that, you absolutely deserve everything that has happened and will continue. I absolutely expected more, but in NO RATIONAL world should SF be on hot seat

  7. Well that's because teams like Indiana, Northwestern, Liberty, Coastal, Tulsa, Cincinnati, BYU, Marshall, Louisiana LaFa, Iowa State, etc, etc... they don't feel entitled to win. They go compete and play with confidence. Huskers be acting like it's a country club atmosphere all week... the good life, glamour, media frenzy, big man on campus, buddies with coaches, social media swag,..... and then during a game it's like "uh-oh, we losing again, what do we do?" #TRUTH

  8. It's hard to pass the ball in Ohio in November. They do a damn fine job of it though.

  9. McCaffrey's grade vs Illinois was basically the same as Martinez vs Northwestern per Pro Football Focus. I don't think those two defenses faced are equal. PFF charged McCaffrey with two of the sacks for holding the ball too long (as opposed to charging them to an OLineman getting beat). McCaffrey was 0-4 on passes traveling more than 20 yards downfield. He was 3-7 on passes 10-20 yards and one was picked. For the year, McCaffrey is 2-7 over 20 yards and 7-15 from 10-20. Also, he's only 10-24 over the middle. We are simply not a threat to throw the ball down the field and that lets defenses over-play short passes and the running game.

  10. I think what's happening is that defenses are playing a stacked-box strategy against us with McCaffrey. This makes it to where when we run our inside zone handoffs, our RBs are just plowing into a big mixing bowl of bodies. If the opposing defenses were spread out a little that wouldn't be happening as bad, and then the play calling would appear better, because the vanilla runs would be averaging more yards per play. But, they're not, and thus play calling falls onto the chopping block. The bottom line is that we don't have a downfield passing game. No matter who is calling the plays, that guy can't trust that we can execute downfield passes. And in that scenario most of the low-percentage stuff we do gets choked up by defenses playing close to the line of scrimmage. We need a better QB.

  16. I'd like to remind folks that Riley was 9-4 his second year. Before his third year began, he was forced to fire Banker and the AD, along with some influential boosters, hired Diaco. Diaco's defense is reason #1 why 2017 was garbage. Riley wasn't responsible for that. All this stuff about his team being soft, etc. are excuses used by some Husker fans to provide coverage for the god awful job Frost has done. There are fans so desperate for a winner, they'll lie to themselves and pretend things will get better despite no evidence of such. Heck, there are guys who said Riley's team was soft because they weren't doing back squats. That's how silly the excuses have become. Welp, they're doing back squats now and we got the supposed savior and Illi-freakin'-nois just boatraced our boys in Lincoln. Nebraska is now in last place in the West during Frost's third season. Somebody above stated Frost inherited a dumpster fire. I'd argue he's the one who lit the match. Frost ushered out players who would be very helpful today. Gebbia threw, rushed and caught a touchdown pass today. He's not good in his first year as a stater, but he's lightyears ahead of Martinez while playing with guys who got a lot less stars from recruiting services. But ushering those kids out has given the sunshine pushers another excuse. The excuse of youth. Who here really thinks this program will be clicking and challenge for the Big 10 title in two years? When Frost was hired, I danced a jig just like most others. I thought he'd bring the Oregon offense with him. I jumped off that bandwagon midway through last season. I can't deny what my eyes tell me. The team lacks talent. They lack discipline. They get pushed around easily. Their offense resembles something Notre Dame ran in the 1940's. Then there's the biggie. They aren't improving. And can we please get a center who can snap the ball.

  17. I disagree. He made multiple comments about culture, work ethic, and other derogatories that could only implied one way of you were not one of his recruits. He threw them away without holding an olive branch out to work them in. Many of them left. Feel bad, those guys saw two or maybe three different coaches and wasted their eligibility in Lincoln. Equally sad that they were never brought under the Husker Umbrella and left on a sour note. he should have just shut his mouth about the whole culture deal. That should have been internal.

  18. Hey that claim has helpfully already been debunked: I'm also amused that all you can do is claim the writer is biased and haven't refused any of the claims from his article. Are you really going to claim that the 13 public hearings on ACA held by the HELP committee did not actually take place? Seems like something you could easily prove or disprove.

  19. Not to mention that vast swaths of Obamacare included Republican platform planks, such as universal coverage (HEART Act of 1993), which also included an individual mandate with a penalty provision. Which they then conveniently forgot when a Democrat put it in his bill.

  21. Here is some info from the scrimmage last week in PBA. It is coming a little late but thought I would provide some insight. Teddy Allen had 29 as Hoiberg said in his presser. He went 4-11 from three and 11-21 from the field. Kobe Webster scored 25. Lat Mayan and Delano Banton both had 14. Elijah Wood and Stevenson had 11 apiece. If anyone finds any other stats form the scrimmage feel free to add them. One team seemed to share the ball well with a positive Assist to turnover ratio of 20/10. I think this team will share the ball really well and we will see some fun basketball being played in Lincoln.

  22. So what is the prospects of our 3rd string QB getting a chance to prove what he can do. Can it get worse? Living in Tulsa, we just witnessed TU's 3rd string QB pull a game out of the dumpster after QB 1 & 2 both got injured. A 2 OT game the 25th Tulsa team have now won 4 (out of their 5 wins) after falling far behind. There is something intangible missing on our NU team that the Tulsa team has- that is confidence.

  24. McCaffrey also charged with three hurries for holding the ball too long. It would appear that the hopes of him being a "fast blinker" are not turning out to be correct.

  25. You're absolutely right, but you won't convince anyone here. For some reason, they and Frost are convinced that this offense, averaging 19 points a game, is the way to go. That they need up-tempo, to play really fast, and keep our Swiss cheese defense on the field for 90 plays a game. Our best play is, without a doubt, the QB draw up the middle. Wouldn't it make more sense to have a fullback running into linebackers and safeties instead of the QB every play? For whatever reason, we've hitched our wagon to this horse, and by God, we'll follow it off the cliff to avoid running the ball like we used to. Say what you want about Pelini, but I remember one game in particular - Miami '14 - where we focused on running the ball with Ameer, and we pushed them around. It was glorious. Bring back the run, Scott!

  26. I dont think it really matters who starts at quarterback if frost is calling the plays. If the game plan sucks the game wont go well? Why is luke who lets just say isn't a polished passer dropping back in the pocket as much as he is? They should be running the ball like 80 percent of the time with luke as the starter and when they do pass it should be rpo. Auburn went 12-2 one year when Malzahn started a f#&%ing cornerback at quarterback. If you have an electric athlete back there game plan accordingly luke shouldn't be throwing more than 15 passes a game.

  36. I was just getting used to the fact that Nebraska was stuck in the tier with Northwestern, Iowa, and Minnesota. But now I realize we're Rutgers. And they could probably beat us with the quarterback we gave them.

  37. What? No. Any reference to Riley should come with the caveat that he hasn't coached here since 2017 and was fired 3 years ago this week. Riley sucked, but he deserves no blame for the s#!t we're seeing in year 3 of Frost.

  38. Like my previous post. I don't disagree, Frost is our head coach and will be for the foreseeable future. I'll continue to watch the games and cheer for Frost and our guys. But I will also complain about getting crushed by an absolute a$$ Illinois team. GBR, but sucking a$$, is still sucking a$$, no sugar coating it.

  39. At the same point in his career at NU Frost's winning percentage is 35%.....Riley was 56%......Frost is 20% behind the alleged worst HC in Husker history.....Just saying.... Should've never fired Frank. I'd have given him another year or 2 after he fired guys....

  41. This is the old "be careful what you wish for...you just might get it" scenario. Scott needs to call Brent Venables and ask him "If you had to hire the new DC to replace yourself, who are you hiring and give me his number" Then after hiring that guy he needs to hire the best salesmen recruiters out there.

  45. Nebraska has to go back to being a dominating run team like years past. They will never get a big time passer to come to Nebraska because of distance and weather. Most of the top QB’s want to play in warm weather climates. Ohio State might be the exception. Wisconsin is doing what Nebraska use to do. They run the football with success, wear defenses out and control the clock. They recruit big physical linemen and I backs. Again, you win by controlling the line of scrimmage, controlling the clock and keeping your defense off the field. Scott Frost needs to revamp the offense and incorporate some power run game and option football like he quarterbacked as a player. Both Martinez and McCaffrey can run the option and play action pass, plus they are good runners! Stop trying to be like everyone else offensively and utilize a system that was successful for years at Nebraska. The west coast offense didn’t work! Spread didn’t work! Chip Kelly uptempo system doesn’t work! Stop worrying about missing out on the 4 and 5 star players by running the football, they will come if you win! The linemen and backs will come to Nebraska! There are a ton of athletic quarterbacks that would go to Nebraska. Finally, Paul Johnson ran the triple at Georgia Tech with success. He played for a conference title, orange bowl and won the ACC. He had success with lousy facilities and having to compete with Georgia, the SEC and ACC for recruits. Nebraska has great facilities, money and support! Go back to what made us great! Run the Football!
