  1. How good would Sark, Grinch, Venables or any of the other big names look with our bunch of rookies? I get fans are ticked- I am too. However, I think we need to pump the brakes. Our defense was looking pretty good for a couple of games. We have some really talented youth who were recruited by these guys. Imo, they deserve the chance to show what they can do with them in 2021. As far as offense, I think our new OC deserves more than 4 games during the weirdest stretch of college football in our lifetimes to get it rolling. I do think some of your comments make sense and Frost may need to go outside his comfort zone. I just think this would be a terrible time to do so.

  2. Bama hired Sark for O and a dude from UTSA to help Saban run the Defense. Georgia snagged a coach from the NFL to run their offense. Oklahoma got Grinch from OSU/WSU fame, and Beamers kid who was at Georgia. Clemson obviously went out and got the best defensive mind in the country in Venables. OSU brought in an old timer in Mattison who was a D Coordinator at Michigan and for the Ravens. Frost brought all of his boys and then had one big hire since then, and literally hired a guy that learned under Frost, and probably thinks more like Frost than any other coach he could have hired. Sometimes you need to hire guys that question your philosophy. Iron sharpens Iron. Right now we have a staff full of dudes that owe Frost for taking them big time and getting them life changing paychecks. None of them can draw on experience to question Frost. Frost should get comfortable getting uncomfortable, my gut says he needs more dudes on his staff willing to look at things from a different angle and call him on his s#!t. That's not a knock on Frost, every good coach knows where they are weak, and supplements it. Thoughts?

  3. Let this sink in. Noah a projected "3rd team" player on Nebraska's team is the third leading passer in the big ten. His offense scores 30 points a game. His team's average recruiting ranking is 70th over 4 years. His offensive coordinator is in his first year. Noah has chance to have his team win more games this year then Nebraska. That in itself is a disgrace and someone needs to be fired.

  6. No question. And we shouldn't have put 500 yards on Northwestern. And 1992 Iowa State shouldn't have beat us . And...... We have top 4 talent in the conference Let Frost mature them physically and mentally. Here's one thing I know about Frost. He knows what a good culture looks like. When he transferred to Nebraska as a player, he had to go up against literally one of the best defensive lines in Nebraska football history every day as scout team quarterback. If there's a guy that understands the formula, it's Frost. He's been humbled by the B1G. Let him keep the formula going....it's relatively early in that process.

  8. I would not. It's nepotism and a bad look on top of it all. It's how the Hunter Biden laptop s#!t show was cooked up. It will be used as ammunition for your opponents at some point in time, no matter how clean you operate. Hard no. If your kids are qualified for a top administration job they'll do fine without your help while you're in office. If you're elected president, the country takes precedence over whether or not your kids are appointed to your administration. I'm not sure why ethics are so hard to understand.

  9. Honestly in year 3, with a junior 3rd year starter why are we simplifying things? That sounds like year 1 stuff. If your saying that in year 3 it tells me you have the dumbest team in America or you can’t coach for s#!t.

  10. Two of those turnovers came on fourth down. Illinois was going to get the ball anyway. Let's not make excuses for the defense. It's not good. Illinois had a lead in their previous games for a grand total of three seconds prior to this weekend.

  11. The offense can't score points when they are giving the ball away. Illinois scored 24 points off turnovers. We will not win a game with a -5 turnover margin. Blaming the defense for the loss against Illinois is like blaming a gun for a homicide.

  14. Ahh - that is the Sound of Silence. Maybe the Simon and Garfunkel type of Sound of Silence (love that song by the way. Posted below for your enjoyment). The Biden Era - may it be a period of silence. May we not ever have to wake up to a presidential tweet storm, read about angry, divisive words from our president in news print, or see him cutting down someone who disagrees with him during the nightly news cast. May we not hear him castigating our friends while he professes his love for dictators. May we instead hear the president speak of us as one nation, speak to all of his as his concern. May he extend the hand of renewed friendship to our allies and be a voice of hope to the disadvantage and to those from outside our boarders. May he have a voice of temperance, patience, reason and scientific understanding as well as maturity in policy. In other words may the next 4 years be not filled with the daily drama we've had to endure during the past 4 years. May it be boring. May we hardly know that the federal govt doesn't even exist - efficient, doing its work without daily intrusion into our lives. Isn't that what the GOP always wanted/promised - a less intrusive government. Trump gave us daily intrusion with his drama. May the Biden presidency be marked with silence and efficient handling of the issues at hand - so that we can live our lives as citizens and be able to do what we need to do to uphold our roles as citizens. So what will you be doing with the Boring? With the Silence? I think I will enjoy sleeping more - less stress/drama. I may even watch some paint dry and enjoy my life as a citizen under a boring president who I think will have the opportunity to be not only transitional but transformational - in a ahh so quite way. While I may not agree with some of the Biden policy initiatives, I feel that he will try to do the best for all Americans.

  15. I think the ultimate irony will be when it's revealed how many socks you have and use. Give it a rest dude. Getting triggered, virtue signaling, rage posting about politics. None of that means you care more than the next person. And claiming otherwise is silly.

  16. I am certain it keeps Frost up at night. This team won't be fixed this week. Do we stand a chance against Iowa? Yeah, we do. Iowa is experienced and has upperclassmen leadership. We have leadership that can't catch a touchdown pass. Our play is going to be erratic. We are young, young, young. Even our talented redshirt freshmen have been thrown in the fire this year, right? we have two redshirt freshmen on the OL and a center who has snapping issues. Would that have happened during Frost's playing days?......

  19. It just seems fishy. Your posts have a familiar sound. That, and the fact you joined over a year ago and didn't even post once a day to all of a sudden doubling your account posts in a matter of a week once you gained access to the P&R forum. Just seems like either you are a fresh retiree finding a lot of extra time on your hands or you might be familiar with other posters who found themselves constantly participating in these threads with the same tone until they finally either were booted or disappeared. Funny that the most recent account disappeared the exact same time you started posting in P&R. Welcome to the board, or welcome back, it doesn't matter to me...

  20. I think we played reasonably well in each game until Illinois, which made that one even more frustrating. People point to the yards against Penn State, but to my admittedly kool-aid drunk eyes that had more to do with a decision to try and waste the second half than poor play. NW is currently #1, #1, and #3 in the defensive metrics here. If Illinois was the outlier I'm hoping it was, Friday will be a lot better than people think. That's a gigantic if though, it could just as easily be a negative turning point as it could be the outlier.

  22. I completely agree and posted a similar thread at the end of last season as well. I was happy to see Frost get a new OC but he has a lot more work to do regarding his staff. What worked for him at Oregon and UCF is not working in the BIG despite Nebraska having some of the best talent in the BIG West division. Here are some items Frost needs to consider if he wants to remain the long-term coach at Nebraska. Self-awareness-Frost needs to acknowledge what is not working and show a willingness to change his own perspectives. His initial press conference as Nebraska head coach showed a very confident (even cocky) coach who felt he was going to come into the BIG and steamroll the competition. That has not happened, and in fact, he has to accept that he has inherited a bad program and somehow made it even worse. He must also accept that he has had one winning season in 4 years and it could soon be one winning season out of 5 years. Assess every coaching philosophy and scheme he has used and determine if that is the right path forward for Nebraska to be competitive in the BIG. Will the Oregon offensive approach that Lubick is accustomed too succeed in the BIG? Thus far it has not. Is Chinander's approach the right one for Nebraska long term? I don't see Chinander as the right coach with the right philosophy and he should be the first to go after this season ends. Once Frost has determined what changes need to be made to the offensive and defensive approaches, he then needs to identify which coaches will be the best to lead those groups. If he feels Chin and Lubick are the answers then he would retain them. I would hope he would move in a different direction with Chin, and if Lubick is not panning out, there is no need to keep him around for a couple more years. What is the role of the head coach? It appears Frost is spending too much time focusing on the offense which has taken away his ability to see the big picture for the full program. Frost is the CEO of the team and should assemble the best staff for offense, defense and special teams.

  23. Tommy played with Westerkamp, DPE, Brandon Reilly, Cethan Carter, Alonzo Moore, and Stanley Morgan in a Mike Riley offense that is designed to give QBs tons of easy layups and inflate passing stats against a much-worse Big Ten West ... and he never completed over 55 percent of his passes or had a passer rating over 133. Adrian's true freshman season was significantly better than Armstrong's best season. You guys are just doing revisionist history because you're being overdramatic and want to pretend like things are worse than they've ever been.

  26. We are scoring 21 per game. Allowing 34 per game. That is pathetic on both fronts. If we would have played wisconsin I am confident our offense would be below 20 and defense would be upper 30's

  27. Let's be honest, we can judge the OC because it's Frost. Lubick is the WR coach and gets more time clearly. The most troublesome thing are the comments about how Frost was thinking about plays and missed the error leading to the fake punt, the personnel issues on special teams etc. What else is he missing by only paying attention to the offense? What is going on in practice? That's unacceptable to me after he chose to not hire a full-time ST coordinator. He's mostly ignoring 2 sides of the ball still, and the one he is paying attention to is the worst. These are giant red flags folks, I hate to say it.

  30. I have bagged on Chin a lot. However, the reality is that we are 1-3 not because of the O, but in spite if it. The only win is squarely because of Chin....IMHO, if we played more (almost every down) in press coverage, it would help us tremendously. Slow down the receiver, mess up the timing routes, don't let them get into a back pedaling DB on a blocking route etc....Worked well for Sanders. Knock them down, off their route or out of bounds.....DB's need to be freed up to play physical at the LOS.

  32. I think we all spend way too much time analyzing every scenario to what leads to us being a s#!tty team. When at the end of the day there is 1 common attribute to good teams that dont do any of the things we talk about. GOOD COACHING. Good head coaches with a good staff dont have these things happen. I know we all want to make excuses for Frost because I think we all "want" to believe Frost is the guy and will get us back. But perhaps he sucks just like every coach since Osborne/Solich. I can't say solich sucks- the guy did win a conference championship and play for a Natty. Plus won s#!t loads of games.

  33. He led the nation in points at UCF - I get that was a small sample size but you can't avg 48 ppg by accident. When he took over they avg 14 ppg two years prior. We had a good offense in 2018 with a young team and completely new system. He was also efficient as OC at Oregon

  35. A "big time" OC wouldn't come right now anyway. He'd see two redshirt freshman on the OL, a center situation with snapping issues and freshman all over the place at skill positions.... .....and say "no thanks".

  36. Good example of how s#!tty our defense really is. Keep it simple and look at one opponent. Illinois. They played 4 games prior to Nebraska. In those 4 games their average points per game was 17. They scored 41 on Nebraska.

  37. The stop the run issue has been a Nebraska issue for years. Do I need to bring up Gordon from Wisc - I think he is still running up yards against us . We have had good to great play from our safeties and corners in years past and I think we have a good group this year as well. I think the issue is physicality. If our front 7 aren't physical/aggressive enough, they hang our back 4 out to dry. On OL, physicality is equally important - they must attack and not just block. Perhaps we need to be tracking pancakes again. Bo's teams went soft the last few years without a feared up front 7 guy - a SUH, Crick, Gregory, or a David, Riley's team were very soft, and we have yet to regain the type of physicality we were once known for, or dare I say FEARED by other teams, that we had during the Solich era and of course during the Osborne years. This is what it takes to compete in the Big 10. Sure, the Big 12, AAC, Pac 10 may be different - but in the Big 10 there has to be both a mental and physical attitude whereby you grind the opponent down. Long gone are the days when Tom Osborne could tell the team at half time of the Miami NC game in the Orange Bowl : paraphrase: "We'll win the 2nd half, they will get tired, we will be stronger and they will make mistakes and get personal fouls because of it'. He was prophetic in every way and it played out exactly that way - because they had done their work in practice. It was said that Tom's players looked forward to games because they knew it would be much easier than the practices. If physicality and might I add discipline (avoid stupid penalties and turnovers) aren't stressed as a #1 priority, it won't matter who we have as QB, RB, or OL/DL or who is calling the plays or what style of football we play. We might as well join the AAC, Mountain West or some other G5 conference or be content as a bottom dweller in the Big 10.

  38. In Year Three there is only one person responsible for the team culture. Plenty of coaches turn the attitude and discipline around the minute they hit campus, because that's what they're hired to do.

  39. She's not dragging her feet. She's proffered a bill that has merit. Moscow Mitch has, as usual, disregarded it. The Republicans have zero interest in helping Biden out with another economic recovery package. They're going to regain their love of austerity now that trump got trounced. No bill that will actually help the citizens of this country will pass McConnell's desk.

  42. Frost doesn't seem like he is watching practice? the players saw the lack of effort and preparation, but he missed it?? you can't run your QB 26 times and expect to win. Lubick must be a Frost clone, what did we gain?? nothing. he doesn't trust any of the RB's, except for Mills?? WTF???? he acts like he is scared to coach and change things up. he needs to make some changes and keep his mouth shut.
