  1. The fact 3 people laughed at this and think what I say here isn't true is very telling. I make a lot of $. I know there are lot of people earning minimum wage who work harder than I do because I worked for minimum wage through 6 years ago and my job then was harder than my job is now. It just didn't require expertise on a subject that people value. There are also people who work 2 low paying jobs at the same time and work 60 hours or more. I can't fathom why other people don't see that there are a lot of people like this. All 3 people who laughed at this have to assume that most people earning minimum wage are lazy, which is a bunch of f#&%ing bulls#!t and you are just plain wrong with your take.

  2. Biden's America : Normalcy Normal presidential routine, no chaotic tweets, name calling and treating opponents with civility. Trump's antics & unpredictability- even before the election placed a lot of stress on the American psychic. Normalcy is good for the nation. Now we can talk about normal things like policy differences without all of the high drama that we had wt Trump. Maybe Biden is the 2nd coming, except for party and policy differences, of Silent Cal - Calvin Coolidge, who was president nearly the same time 100 years ago. https://www.biography.com/us-president/calvin-coolidge https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/537418-biden-doubles-down-on-normal-at-white-house

  4. Again, you're either blinded by the need to support and protect your own team or you're deliberately avoiding looking at what Trump and co did since it was much the same as what you're outraged by about Biden and co. Ivanka's trademark deals with China is but one among many. But beyond that, as I've said repeatedly, nepotism is about granting favors like appointments, which Trump obviously did. No matter how much you want to change the definition or conversation to something else, that remains true. And Jared and Ivanka gain power, prestige, reputation even without being directly paid.

  7. While it's true that some higher paying income jobs exist even without a college degree, that's not the case for the majority of earners. The median family income in the US has never been above $60k when you adjust for inflation. The inflation adjusted dollars are in 2014 value: http://johnstonsarchive.net/policy/famincome.html

  8. They're only useless if you treat to them as such. The point of Gen Ed is to give you a diverse and well rounded education, and to meet others outside of your curriculum to learn different ways of thinking. I learned some interesting stuff in Lit Classes. Learned things in Native American History they never would teach you in public schools. Also, have some great lessons from Comm classes that I didn't value then but now reference all the time at work. Art History... now that's a different story. That class was my biweekly nap time.

  9. I know this year we’re not going to win many games but I can’t remember the last time we had a good FT shooting team. Why are we so bad at this every year? How does it get fixed? Whatever we have been doing isn’t working.

  11. Thank you, but the point of the story wasnt to garner sympathy it was to show that everyones situation isnt the same. Its not as easy as, well they made bad choices therefore they should be f#&%ed forever. Some make bad choices, some do the right thing and it still bites them in the a$$. Some go to college, and then get screwed because of the market see 2008 and now. Some suck at interviews and cant get a high paying job even though they have the skills to do the job well. Everyone is different and we shouldnt judge people based on the bad choices of some. Archy did something he believed was correct and it seems to have worked out for him and thats great. If everyone did what he did, the school would have millions of students in it. JJ did what he thought was right and his daughter is very lucky to have a father willing to help her with her debt, which will help her do the things she loves to do earlier in life and not have to worry about those monthly bills. Everyone should want the best for their kids and grandkids. Maybe JJs daughter wont be able to do for her kids what he did for her, then his grandkids gotta go through this BS and probably worse since college just keeps getting more expensive every year. Progress isnt about “well I had to suffer so everyone should have to suffer” it should be about “well I had to suffer, but I want better for my kids and grandkids so lets fix it and make it better”.

  16. What was their benefit? Who the F cares that someone did some government work for free and didn’t benefit financially. I mean, hell, we’re only three weeks into this Administration and the President’s son already signed a book deal, and the VP’s step daughter signed a modeling contract somehow. Kids are already cashing in.

  17. Thanks for linking the more recent data. Looks like family median income has finally gone over $60k. However, individual income still below $60k: And that's counting both those with and without college degrees, so my point that making more than $60k without a college degree is still unlikely. That link shows in figure 8 that the poverty rate of those with a HS diploma but no college is 11.5% while the poverty rate for those with a college degree is 3.9%

  19. Size matters a lot in football. Longer wingspans for the Dl allows them to easier occupy more space. Size on the OL makes it harder for pass rush to get through and around. Larger WR's who are athletic have a bigger catch radius and a bigger blocking radius, making it harder for a defender to break a block. Size matters for linebackers in the Big Ten since this is a LOS league and you have to be able to take on blocks from big lineman. Go and look at the rosters of the teams who win the Big Ten over the last 15 years and you will never find any of those teams with smaller players starting - always a lot of size and bulk.

  20. 11-24 from the FT line is astonishingly embarrassing. It is unbelievable that Division 1 players on scholarship would shoot so poorly. FTs are one of the most basic, fundamental components of basketball. Middle schoolers can shoot better than that. I’m a 42 year old who never played organized basketball and can shoot FTs better than that.

  22. And just for record, I would be totally fine with being able to declare bankruptcy on student debt over forgiveness. Give people the option if that is what they need to do. Problem is, student debt is one of the only forms of debt you cant declare bankruptcy on. I also have no problems saying Joe Biden and his corruption is the reason for that.

  23. I dont even know what that means. Fast food workers “work hard”. Minimum wage workers “work hard”. People who work more than one job “work hard”. Working hard has nothing to do with how much you get paid. Its not all about working hard, some requires skill. Some requires luck. Like I said, life isnt black and white.

  25. Not every situation is the same. My wifes parents arent the greatest with money. Her dads a lawyer and her moms high maintenance. They dont know how to save money or pay debt. They told my wife they would pay for her undergraduate college at Colorado. They paid the least anount possible and interest accrued. She wanted to change careers so she went back to college for masters in school counseling. Got denied from UNO (cheaper) got accepted to Creighton (more expensive). She got tons of scholarships to help with masters but still owed $20,000. Long story short, she started having medical issues the past few years, just went to Mayo Clinic this past week. Weve hit out of pocket maximum three years in a row. $5000 on top of premiums just for her medical issues. Plus, her dad lost his job during pandemic so they cant pay her loans anymore and since they are in her name, the debt goes to her. Her undergraduate and graduate adds up to $54,000 so $34,000 which was promised to be paid her by her parents goes to us. I also decided to go back to school to get MBA in healthcare. If I would have known she had that much undergraduate debt and her parents woukd back out of their deal, I would have waited. So now we have medical debt (no faukt of her own), her college debt (not her fault that her parents made bad decisions on her behalf and now cant pay their portion) and my college debt, which I was on pace to get undergraduate paid off in 6 years before going back, so I have been responsible paying back my debt and havent let interest accrue. We had to move in with my parents when she started having medical issues because the debt was too much and we were drowning in it and because her program required her to do a FT non-paid intership, so her income for that year was limited as her other FT job paid crud. We are trying our best, but the medical debt and college debt now will not allow us to start a family or move out for awhile. Not every situation is the same and thats my anecdotal reality check on life not being a black and white issue.

  26. So you basically say students are getting f#&%ed, but f#&% them they made a choice. Then when people without college degrees get paid $13/hr like the business owners in this thread say they pay their workers and ask for more money, then its if youre not happy get a higher paying job. Conservatives need to make up their damn mind. Higher paying jobs require college degrees plain and simple. So its either get paid s#!t or be in excruciating debt. Its a f#&%ed up system.

  27. You're high. $30k will get you exactly zero percent of a college degree these days. Maybe...maybe, if you pay the other $50 to $100k plus up front out if pocket. This is not an argument in favor of forgiving loans. Just a reality check on the cost of an education. I know, just had one graduate, and she did it in only 2.5 years.

  28. With the amount of passing done in the NFL, it’s really more of a speed game than a size game. That’s not how it works in the Big Ten. Also, the guys you are pointing out at in the NFL because of their speed. You are totally cherry picking guys to make your point.

  29. How much were they paid by government treasury?
    2 points
  30. Again, it's not about what they were paid. Ivanka has overseen hundreds of millions of dollars in federal grants, represented the United States at the G20 summit, involved in shaping the 2017 tax cut that stands as her father’s main legislative achievement, and was involved at a high level in a search for a new World Bank president. Kushner has overseen the US-Mexico border wall, the Israeli-Palestinian talks, the opioid crisis, the nation’s medical stockpile, and the coronavirus crisis.

  31. I can understand being pessimistic, but 3 wins is really lacking objectivity IMO. They went 3-5 this past season alone on just a conference only schedule, with a multitude of close losses. They won 5 games the year prior. They will get 12 games this coming season with 3 non-conference chances. Yes OU is a likely loss, but I like this team’s chances to win the other 2 non-conference games. If they go 3-6 or 4-5 in conference that is 5 to 6 wins. If they only win 3 out of 12, then this team will have seriously regressed from just this past season despite getting all of a vastly improved Blackshirt unit back. The o-line looks promising IMO as well. I just don’t get the doom and gloom 3-9 projections.

  35. If it helps any, it's not only free throws that they suck at. But I really don't get being that horrible at FTs. When I played, we would shoot them at every practice. It's not difficult at all to shoot north of .800. At the college level, a coach should not have to focus on it or waste time in practice. It's a player pride thing. Apparently our players have none.

  43. This is the kind of subtle racism that creeps into our society. And then we wonder why a bunch of middle-aged White people believe "they" are stealing the election and mount an idiot's crusade to Washington. This is from Biden's website, yes. But it is a partial quote, and alone it doesn't explain the whole plan. Why not just go to the site and read it for yourself instead of spreading this intentionally hysteric race-baiting nonsense? Ensure all small business relief efforts are specifically designed to aid businesses owned by Black and Brown people. Trump’s team designed the PPP to allow the largest banks to give their most well-off clients “concierge” service at the front of the line while closing the door on Black-, Latino-, AAPI-, and Native American-owned businesses that did not have deep relationships with big banks. Biden will ensure from the start that any emergency small business relief plan that will still be needed in January 2021 will have clear provisions to ensure that true small businesses — especially those owned by Black and Brown people and those serving underserved rural, tribal, and urban areas — get the relief they need. He will reserve half of new small business relief — whether the PPP or future efforts — for small businesses with 50 employees or fewer, including microbusinesses and sole proprietorships, so the bigger and more well-connected aren’t able to win in a first-come, first-served race. Biden’s technical assistance programs — described below — will also involve “navigator” assistance for small — often minority-owned — businesses to ensure fair access to these programs. Nowhere does Biden or his site say the ONLY small business relief is going to Black and Brown people. What he says is they were largely overlooked by trump's plan, and since the Black & Brown communities were disproportionately affected by COVID, Biden's plan will assure they are not skipped in future relief.

  44. This thread seems to have derailed itself in some areas. Here is my take on the subject. The only drug I believe should be legal is marijuana. Why? Well, here are some of my reasons. 1) The legalization and taxation of marijuana could literally bring in billions of dollars in revenue. All you would have to do is tax it similar to that of the taxation of cigarettes and other tobacco. I saw one estimate, in 2009, that stated at least 14 billion dollars could be made each year from the taxation alone. We spend billions of taxpayers' money each year prosecuting and jailing marijuana offenders as is. 2) In many situations, marijuana's effects can be less damaging than those of alcohol. I have been around the highest of highs and the drunkest of drunks, and the drunks are far more dangerous. 3) It's not as dangerous as people make it out to be. The commercials do marijuana a terrible injustice, depicting as something it is not in order to scare parents. As I said, I have been around plenty of marijuana users, and I have NEVER seen them act as they are depicted in the commercials. 4) You cannot overdose and die on marijuana. It is impossible to smoke enough marijuana to the point of death, and there is not a single case in the world of somebody dying solely from marijuana overdosing. Others may disagree, but it is my personal opinion that alcohol is a far more dangerous substance, and that the taxation and legalization of marijuana could be a benefit to society. I did a 10 page report on the taxation and legalization of marijuana my freshman year of college (it is purely an unbiased report, but all I have is the rough draft which I ended up having a little bias in, before eventually editing it out). If anybody is interested in reading it, I would be more than happy to supply it.
