  1. Opposing reparations might seem selfish and racist. Yet writing a check to salve your guilt seems like another patronizing and ultimately shallow gesture of liberalism. And are we talking about grievances from systemic inequity? Cause that's a looooooooooong list. Slavery wins priority hands down. Unless you stop to consider Native-American genocide. Generations of gays might tell you they were more likely to be shunned, fired, beaten, and killed without consequence than Black Americans. And what would be the price of justice anyway? Who comes up with that incredibly controversial figure, and how exactly does that change either the past or the future? It's a third rail issue with a lot of counter-productive baggage attached. When Jeff Bezos' ex-wife made huge unrestricted donations directly to a few Historically Black Colleges, that was more genuine remediation than putting the pro-rated cash in millions of hands. If Republican redistricting and voter suppression are simultaneously marginalizing the Black vote, reparations hardly matter. We've got to make investments in all kinds of underserved sectors of America -- and promote them as investments, not handouts -- because they will have a significant positive return on the economy as well as the social fabric, a fact that gets lost in the Maker/Taker narrative horses#!tt.

  2. Colorado in 2019. I was in Folsom and watched a lousy CU team without a pulse for 3 quarters proceed to dominate the game for the last 20 minutes. Lost by 3. If the game goes another 10 minutes, we lose by 17. If it went another 20 minutes, we would have lost by 30..and so on. That was the day the wind went out of the Frost-tipped sails for me. I’ve been pretty ho hum about everything since then. If this ship gets righted...great. But I’m not expecting it anymore.

  3. 1) How would it be possible to define who gets reparations? What percent of slave ancestry qualifies? Is it a sliding scale? If you have white ancestry also do you forfeit the reparations since you are partially privileged? If the African tribe you belonged to prior to being forcefully brought over to America participated in the slave trade, or had slaves ever, do you need to directly send your reparations over to Africa to pay that debt? 2) Do families of soldiers who died in Civil War fighting to free slaves get reparations? They paid the ultimate sacrifice. Or relief from their tax money being used for reparations? 3). Someone brought American Indians up. Where do they fit in? Asian railroad labor workers? Irish when they came over we’re treated horribly. Do they count for some? 4) Why should a family that didn’t come to America until the 1900’s have to pay reparations? They didn’t participate in slavery. Should generational families that never owned slaves be responsible to pay reparations with their tax money? To me, reparations from a direct payment standpoint is just silly. Incentivizing Economic investment opportunities in minority communities would be a way to get the that economic engine going.

  4. Slavery was not unique to the United States. As unethical as it was, it was a worldwide issue. Reparations are grabs for political gains by politicians, and a money grab by citizens looking for a payday. There is no justice to found for slavery. All involved are long gone.

  5. Posting a ton about the NU win tonight on both IG and Twitter. Pretty cool to see how all N he is. Really excited to add him to next year’s team.

  8. It's a tough list because the worst Riley losses confirmed we weren't moving past Bo, we were plummeting back to Callahan 2007 Nebraska football. But the Frost losses might have felt worse because he was Scott Frost, and if he couldn't turn it around, who could? I think the talent question took a hit in last year's Minnesota game when a middle-of-the-pack Minnesota team down to its third and fourth stringers outplayed and out-coached the Huskers, including our Junior quarterback who had been a Heisman hopeful just two years earlier. It felt impossible to have a conversation about forward motion after that game. The turnaround is still coming. Statistical probability says it has to. Of course I'm rooting for Frost, but can you imagine someone in 2018 telling you: "just wait until Year Four when Scott gets some real offensive linemen in here — we'll have a very good chance of going 6-6."

  9. To me, this really isn't much different than guys who opt out of bowl games. This teams has nothing left to play for and he's already working through an injury. Might was well heal up and find a way to make some money.

  10. This is so beautiful, especially because of how many options exist off of it. There are three reads here: 1. Thor reads Mayen coming down for the dribble hand off. He has to determine if the man guarding Mayen can get there and/or if his own defender will hedge and ultimately trap him if he gets the ball. Thor then immediately clears out after denying the hand off and passing to Andre 2. Andre doesn’t give to Thor after he clears out, this may be a dummy action but we probably have a counter somewhere off it where Thor takes it and uses Andre as a screener if his man overplays it and shoots under the screen for a quick 3 3. Hard dribble at Mayen by Andre and then beautiful denial and back cut by Mayen. Just a RIDICULOUS pass for a Center to throw but Andre leads him perfectly for the easy bucket. It’s just gorgeous.

  13. How much progress will be made when the discussion of reperations become one of the reagents for a Trumpist landslide in 2024? Because politically it's a losing stance. Combine it with open borders and the Dems will lose the center and independents. Sometimes you just have to be pragmatic.

  14. The offensive line situation caught everyone off guard. The fact that Frost and the staff are trying diligently to get it fixed is a reason for optimism. Frost has already had some offensive line busts that he recruited....Anderson for example....but being able to get players like Benhart and Corcoran to come to Nebraska after the seasons we've had since Pelini was fired is good recruiting. We've been undersized for at least a decade. Frost making that a priority will pay dividends.

  15. After he got benched Teddy went on a 4 game tear that rivaled anything I have seen in a Nebrasketball uniform. He elevated his play and his leadership more than I ever expected he could, I knew he had more to give but was surprised when he surpassed my expectations. He will be missed but pryor to his benching I thought he wasn't good for the team and we played better without him. Wish him the best Now we have room for Hunter....

  16. For this upcoming season I sadly expect more of the same we have seen the last three seasons. I want things to get better but I'm kind of growing tired of hearing every year is the year. I hope I'm wrong and it is a great season of 8 to 10 wins.

  17. This is a good take. There's no postseason for this team, so why risk injury when he's got a financial future to look forward to? Sucks for us, but it's the right move for him. Good luck, young man. Thanks for your time as a Husker.

  21. I think getting a conference title and BCS win would have given Pelini more leash, but after 2012 his teams had been delivering diminishing returns and his record was being propped up by winning close games in the Gary Anderson/Bill Cubit/Darrell Hazell/Jerry Kill/Hot Seat Kirk Ferentz version of the Big Ten West. His teams would not have been going 8-4 in the 2019 or 2020 versions of this division. Pelini was still delivering top 30/40ish-type teams, and maybe he'd have turned it back around with another year, but there was a football case to be made for moving on. And you can't be underwhelming in your job performance AND a raging jerk to the people you work with and expect to keep your job. As far as Riley, anyone saying he wasn't expected to come in and win as much or more than Pelini is doing some big-time revisionist history. The narrative was that "If he was able to win eight games at a bad program, imagine what he'll be able to do at a program with resources!" Instead he came in and ran the program with resources exactly like the bad program. Many fans thought it was a bad hire but that wasn't the consensus.

  25. I hope Trump does run again in 2024. People will again show up in droves to vote against him and while they're there, they may as well check the D box for Congress too. I really doubt he will, though. He'll pick a favorite candidate and push for them. At this point, I would guess DeSantis. It will be interesting to see if his influence can remain as effective with no Twitter or Facebook to spread his lies and attacks. The best voter suppression technique the R's can deploy, IMO is keeping Trump off the ballot in 2024.

  30. To my earlier point, while I cannot identify a "worst" loss from this time period, I agree that the collapse at Folsom in 2019 was a watershed moment as I really began to doubt the program's direction after. CU was lifeless for 3 Quarters with a new Coach, and still they managed to completely turn the game on us in Q4. They went on to win 5 games that season. I will say that if CU 2019 was the beginning of doubt as to the current direction, Illinois 2020 was the confirming event.

  32. Surprised, but not surprised. He was a talented scorer at times, and NU needs scorers. However, when he's not playing within the team structure, he's a liability.

  34. The actual quote.... “I’m hoping the Big Ten has to modify their system for us,” Frost said confidently, resulting in a loud cheer from the group of current and former players and NU administration. Bottom line, for better or worse, Frost was hoping that the B1G would have to "modify" "adjust""change" "alter" "adjust" etc their respective "system" "structure""organization" "method" "technique" etc........It is what it is. Had he been successful, we would all love the quote. As it is, we are 12-20 and no one has adjusted anything. Other than to get us on their schedule.....I'm glad he said it when he did. Showed courage. Bo said the same thing..........To date, no one has been fearful of NU since we have joined. Do I want Frost to succeed? Hell yes. Do I have some serious concerns going into 2021? Hell yes. I think we are still 2022 from seeing what we have. And while it sucks, it is what it is. I'm just tired of the "culture", look what he inherited, they didn't even have strength training excuse etc....It's his team. And no fan wants him to fail.

  35. As I said, you are free to be critical. My original post was about a misquote, which it was There are people, including former players who are closer to the program internally than you or I and they like what they are seeing I am hopeful for where we are headed.

  37. Has the mininum wage not been debated for years now? How much more debate is needed? Its been a hot topic issue since 2016, I believe even Trump said he wanted to raise to $15 in 2016. And the dems are fine not raising it because they can keep promising stuff they dont want to deliver every election. I think you guys are safe. In 2100 the minimum wage will still only be $7.25.
