  1. You've already been told why. People of color have higher average wait times at polls. And you can laugh all you want at the 50 minutes but these are averages. There were examples of people waiting for 6 hours in Georgia. Again, use Occam's Razor. Why all this extra government intervention? Why do you think they made the law? Laws shouldn't be made for no good reason. That's one of the tenants of conservatism. I think you are thinking about this in a convoluted way because of what "team" it's coming from. Step back and try to come up with a reason for this to exist when it was already illegal to do it in a politically motivated way.

  2. Are you sure you understand the situation? There are three different lawsuits over this legislation. Corporations are pulling out of Georgia over this legislation. Maybe sit back a minute, stop laughing at the consternation of others, and realize you may not have a full grasp on what's going on here.

  4. As an agnostic, it frees me up to believe that life is beautiful, intricate and mysterious, and perhaps I'll never have answers to its biggest questions, but I never assume I was owed that. There are many different religions and religious texts, but they all revolve around the Golden Rule: treat others as you would treat yourself. It's that simple. But because we often want to treat people badly, and forgive ourselves, we create complex religions that let us feel superior to others. Religion has a really bad track record that way.

  6. if we start having a surge in infection rates again...maybe we should just skip the mask mandate and see how high the surge can go isntead of implementing a mask mandate tos tem the surge? the mask mandates only get implemented when cases are surging. they get taken off when the surge is under control....then when the rates started rising again another mandate was put in place. the data is being misrepresented on the cause and effect IMO.

  7. That's not it at all. 90% white communities in GA had a 6 min wait to vote. 90% non-white communities had a 51 min wait to vote. No one is even talking about this food or water thing if it doesn't take 9x longer to vote in non-white communities. That's not checks and balances - that's voter suppression.

  8. You keep posting anecdotes and opinions from people who have no experience whatsoever and I keep posting scientific studies. What's your point? Do you really find masking in public places that much of an inconvenience for a once in a lifetime health crisis? Even after you've had Covid or have been vaccinated is it too much to ask to stay patient? https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7010e3.htm

  15. Use Occam’s razor more please. This is clearly an attempt to make it harder to vote. It’s obvious and there is no other reason to do it. It doesn’t matter how small you think it is, that’s why it was added. I was given a water bottle when I voted last year and it was convenient. The people who handed them out said nothing political whatsoever and were not wearing anything political. You know why? Because it’s against the law to do that. It’s also against the law in Georgia and was before they added this uneccesary rule which has the sole and obvious purpose of making it less convenient to vote. You are looking at this from the complete opposite angle that you should. Allowing people to hand out water is completely harmless, and adding a law to prevent it is an increase in bureaucracy, is just plain stupid, and is anti-conservatism. Conservatives love to b!^@h about big government except when it’s convenient for them to argue the other side. Just look at what you’re arguing for. It’s a stupid and unnecessary law made for one obvious reason.

  16. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Im not saying Jesus didnt exist at all, just how do we know he was the son of God? That requires more evidence than anonymous authors, who dont cite their sources, who were not eye witnesses to the events and whos stories change from book to book. We dont have the original manuscripts. Its already been stated in this thread by Christians that the bible may have gotten things wrong and/or the translation is bad. These claims are different than say, Napolean won a war. Now we have written statements about Napolean, but the writers are not anonymous. We know Napolean existed. We know humans fight wars. Now if you told me Napolean jumped off his horse, flew through the air with his sword, landed on his enemies horse and cut him down, Id need more proof than just someone saying so, because we know, by the law of physics, that humans cant fly, so it isnt possible. Just like we have no documented proof of someone dying and rising days later. I need more than an anonymous person telling me this happened. Just like Id need more than the word of someone telling me they were abducted by aliens. And people do claim this. Do you believe them?

  18. This is going sideways fast for the future face of the Republican Party. And to think, they could have instead stood up for Liz Cheney who actually showed a modicum of integrity. But no, they doubled down on Matt Gaetz

  19. This was already illegal, so there was no point in changing the law if that's what you're trying to prevent. No, because it was already illegal as I previously mentioned. Because POC have MUCH longer wait times to vote in Georgia. Now imagine there's someone next to you in line that has already drunk their water (or forgot it at home or in their car, etc.) and now has to choose between voting or getting more water. Previously you could have given them water. Now it's illegal for you to show basic human decency. And? Do you not drink liquids during the winter?

  20. I grew up in an ELCA Lutheran Church. I stand true to all the values my congregations have shared over the years. But I just got tired of pretending I believe in things I don’t as far as the “religion” part goes. I can share grace and peace without giving up rational thought.

  21. ^ Good breakdown of why I'm agnostic. I don't pretend to have all the answers. It seems odd though that you acknowledge all these complexities but still have confirmation that your god is behind all this. To be clear I don't discount the possibility of your god, I don't discount the possibility of anyone's god, I don't discount the possibility of there being no god. It just seems crazy to me with how complex the universe is, and extreme lack of evidence - anyone can act like they have the sole answer to everything.

  22. It was already illegal to give anything as a gift that could influence a vote including food and water. This change in the law was specifically to make standing in line to vote more difficult.

  30. I don't know about FCS, but certainly not Big Ten level. Part of it was the mismatch in scheme - still trying to transition from 4-3 to 3-4 with guys who were mostly Banker recruits and a couple Pelini remnants. I'm still worried about who's gonna be our pass rusher this year, though.

  31. before Frost got her I felt the linebacker unit as a whole was an FCS level talented group. Going into 2021, this is the first time I feel we are building a linebacker unit that is now worth of being a Big Ten level unit. JoJo coming back for one more season helps the transition so we can get the younger guys developed and ready. Then it becomes a matter of just making sure the coaches bring in a solid linebacker class every year. If they can do that, then we will have good defenses.

  32. I can't speak for either of them specifically, but politics has become a team sport and many people get caught up in defending anything their own team does and vilifying the other team.

  33. Good thing about Smothers is that he's still considered a 'Freshman' this season due to getting a free year last year so if I'm not mistaken he can still play in 4 games this year and still would be considered a RFR next season. If I'm not mistaken which is also very much possible.

  34. No. Read it again. I said the offense was good enough to win a well scripted quarter, but didn’t make the right attitude or scheme adjustments when the other team did. That’s on coaching as much as talent. We need to do better with both.

  35. It's not because he's the backup and an unknown huh? Sure. I listened through the Joe Burrow conversation and still have to agree that if the rest of the offense doesn't substantially improve around the QB it won't matter who is QB. Your comment is exactly what someone just wanting the backup in would say. You're basing your opinion on 1/3 game, which was scripted and practiced for months, for the fault being all on Martinez and not on the rest of the offense? Huh. You don't think OSU was cold themselves? Martinez makes mistakes sure but you think there was an offense around him good enough to win 9 games if you swap QBs?

  36. Basically what I came in here to say. It's particularly dumb to complain about a kids low rating this year, evaluations are all over the place. And I still trust the coaches' judgement. But pretending it's a Nebraska specific thing is also ridiculous, pretty much any P5 and some other schools will have a subset of fans up in arms about commits with lower ratings.

  39. One of the biggest issues for me was the human element of the Bible. It's written by humans, selected by humans, translated by humans, and printed by humans. It has to be full of human errors, and indeed it is. There are many examples of Bibles with printing errors or poor translations. Why did some books make into the Bible while others didn't? Why did they chose this word or phrase over the other when translating? There's quite a bit lost in translation as well; leading to debate about the snake in the garden , Lucifer and Satan, is Satan really a specific person, homosexual relations or pedophilia, is Mary really a virgin, Jesus was really name Yeshua/Joshua, the holy spirit itself, and on and on...
